Waterproof external control unit for a timepiece. The present invention relates to a sealed external control member for a timepiece, such as, for example, a crown with a winding stem or a pusher.
There are already quantities of devices for sealing rings or pushers by means of sealing members acting radially and axially by clamping against opposite walls.
These packages or other members have the disadvantage of making the movement of the members of which they seal less easy, as a result of the clamping action exerted, and, on the other hand, the seal is not ensured for long periods of time, due to the wear they undergo by friction.
The object of the present invention is to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks by the fact that the passage of the organ through a wall of the box is made watertight by at least one sealing gasket consisting of a naturally flat ron delle made of material. flexible and elastic, tightly retained by one of its edges, and acting by its opposite edge, radially free, but axially deformed to ensure, by axial pressure,
the sealing of the open-read of the box body, the elasticity of said gasket being sufficient to allow axial displacement of the crown, without there being any leakage in the seal.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, several embodiments of the object of the invention constituting winding crowns, FIG. 1 is an axial sectional view of a first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a city in elevation. Figs. 3 and 4. are sections similar to that of FIG. 1 showing two other embodiments and FIGS. 5 to 9 are partial sections of five other embodiments.
We see in, fig. 1 that the crown 1 has on its underside a recess 2 on the inner periphery of which a groove 3 is hollowed out constituting a housing with a seat for the inner edge of an annular sealing gasket 4, housing in which this edge is held by a small support part 6 provided on the barrel 5.
This lining consists of a flat washer made of flexible and elastic material, for example natural or synthetic rubber, the central opening of which is, in the free state, of diameter smaller than that. barrel 5 and the outer diameter of which is smaller than that of recess 2.
It follows that, when it is placed in the groove 3, the washer naturally takes on a conical shape and rests elastically by its free edge on the gearbox body 7 after the crown has been fitted. .
It can be seen that the seal existing along the winding stem where it passes through the watch case is sealed, on the one hand, by the tightening of the ron delle 4 on its seat in the groove. 3 of the crown and, on the other hand, by the elastic contact of the free edge of this seal on the gearbox body 7.
As seen in fig. 2, the free edge of the gasket conforms to the shape of the surface of the gearbox body 7. It is clear that the crown can be moved axially, for example for the time-setting position, without there being any leakage between box 7 and gasket 4.
The variant shown in FIG. 3 shows a part 8 inserted in the bottom of the recess 2 of the crown 1.
The housing 3, with the seat for the inner edge of the lining 4, is formed on this part 8, and the support of the central edge of this lining is formed by an annular part 6ca with a conical surface. This embodiment has the advantage of allowing the machining of the groove 3 and of the part 6a before the introduction of the. piece 8 in the crown.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 4, the crown 1 is hollowed out at 2, but the seal is ensured by two washers 4 and 4a. These two washers, flexible and elastic, are mounted on a sleeve 9 sliding on the barrel 5 and produced with a disc 9a of diameter corresponding substantially to that of the recess 2 of the crown.
The sleeve 9 can therefore move freely axially on the barrel 5, but its displacement outwardly of the recess 2 is limited by an annular rim 1a formed on the crown 1. On the sleeve 9 are formed, on both sides. on the other of the disc 9a, housing 3 with a seat for the linings 4 and 4a, the taper of which is opposite.
As can be seen., The sealing of the opening of the case body for the passage of the winding stem is ensured, on the one hand, by the gasket 4a in contact by its free edge with the bottom of the recess 2 of the crown and, on the other hand, by the lining 4 in contact by its free edge with the case body (not shown): After fitting the crown, the linings 4 and 4a deform elastically, as shown in fig. 1.
Fig. 5 shows a crown 1 hollowed out at 2 and on the barrel 5 of which slides a socket 10 in the form of a cup. The edge 10a of this cup is slightly flared and comes into contact with an annular rim 1a of the crown, which limits its movement. outwards from the recess 2.
On the barrel 5 is mounted a washer 4 made of flexible and elastic material: This washer 4 has a diameter smaller than that of the recess 2 and its free edge rests elastically on the edge 10a of the bowl 10 which is thus always close. Sée axially on its seat of the box body 7. The elastic contact between the edge 10a and the washer 4 ensures the seal at this location.
The variant shown in FIG. 6 is substantially the same as the shape of FIG. 5, but a flat elastic washer 11 is placed under the bottom of the bowl 10 to ensure the seal with the box body 7.
In the embodiment of FIG. 7, the lining between the bottom of the bowl 10 and the box body 7 is constituted by a ron delle 4a mounted on a central seat of the bowl, in the same manner as described. with reference to fig. 1 to 4. The diameter of the bowl seat is larger than that of the opening. of the washer, to force it to take an inclined position relative to the axis of the. rod.
Fig. 8 shows a crown 1 hollowed out at 2 and carrying a washer 4 of flexible and elastic material retained by its outer edge around the periphery of the recess 2. The inner free edge resiliently bears on the end of a winding tube 12 protruding inside the recess 2.
Fig. 9 shows a push-button crown. Here the tightness between the crown 1 and the box body 7 is ensured by a seal 4, retained by its inner edge inside the recess 2. As shown in the drawing, this seal is supported elastically with its free edge on the gearbox body 7.
The crown has on its upper face a recess 2a intended to receive the head 13 of the pusher. The seal between the crown 1 and the pusher head 13 is ensured by means of a gasket 4a arranged in the same way as the gasket 4.
It is retained on the rod 14 of the pusher by elastic clamping of its inner edge, and its free outer edge rests elastically on the bottom of the recess 2a. With the exception of Figs. 1 and 2, the crowns with their sealing gaskets are always shown in their outer setting position; in relation to the box body.
It is therefore clear that by pushing them back into their reassembly position, the elastic deformation of the linings is increased and, consequently, their pressure on the parts with which they are in contact via their free edge. There is therefore never any leakage.
According to the present invention, the sealing gaskets are always constituted by naturally flat washers, relatively thin and elastically deformed when they are mounted on the crown or after the latter has been put in place. The linings are always retained by one of their edges, and the other, which is radially free, acts by an axial thrust, resulting from an elastic deformation to ensure water tightness.
The deformation of the washer during its assembly is obtained, for example, by passing it over a part of larger diameter than that of its central opening. In this case it takes, as shown in the drawing, a conical shape.
It is clear that the principle explained and shown in the drawing to ensure the tightness of a crown, also applies to any other external control member, such as for example a pusher.
