Machine for vacuum forming a sheet of thermoplastic material
This invention relates to a machine for vacuum shaping a sheet of thermoplastic material.
In previously known vacuum shaping machines, a sheet of thermoplastic material to be shaped is clamped between clamping members, before and during the heating and shaping operations.
In these known machines the tightening is effected by means of bolts and nuts, the bolts passing through the clamping members, and it is necessary to tighten and then loosen the nuts for each tightening and loosening operation before and after. heating and shaping of each sheet. This takes time and it is necessary to carefully gauge the tightening pressure of each nut in order to achieve proper tightening.
An object of the present invention is to provide a machine provided with means for rapidly clamping and loosening the sheet to be shaped by vacuum, and the clamping means making it possible to rapidly obtain uniform pressure.
According to the invention, the machine for the vacuum shaping of a sheet of thermoplastic material comprises a member provided with a clamping surface of the sheet, a clamping frame being able to be brought together and away from the clamping surface for a period of time. clamping operation, a clamping bar, and means for bringing the clamping bar into and out of engagement with the clamping frame and for applying clamping pressure to the clamping bar.
Preferably, adjustable means are attached to the clamping bar to come into contact with the clamping frame, the clamping pressure being transmitted from the clamping bar to the clamping frame via said adjustable means. The adjustable means may comprise bolts, each provided with a locking nut, attached to the clamp bar along which they are spaced, in the vicinity of a longitudinal eye edge thereof.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the macitin which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a cross-sectional view of part of a machine for vacuum forming.
Fig. 2 is a schematic side view of the clamping bar and part of the machine of FIG. 1, the clamping bar being in the released or non-clamping position n.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to that of FIG. 2 but showing the clamping bar in the engaged or clamped position.
Fig. 1 shows a part of a machine for vacuum forming 1 provided with a frame-shaped machine member 2, a clamping frame 3 supported so as to be able to move vertically by a pair of cylinder assemblies and fluid-operated piston 4 (only one of which is shown), a lower machine frame 5 mounted by means of wheels 6 on guide rails 7 (only one wheel and one rail being shown) and a vacuum shaping tool 8.
The frame 2 has a clamping surface 9 around the edge of which is arranged a compressed rubber sealing member 10, and the vertically movable clamping frame 3 has a clamping surface 11 intended to cooperate with the clamping surface 9 of the frame 2 to clamp a sheet of thermoplastic material 12 disposed between the clamping surfaces 9 and 11.
A clamping bar 13 is mounted on a shaft 14 whose axis extends parallel to the longitudinal axis of the clamping frame 3 and which is rotatably supported on the frame 2 by brackets 15 (see also Figs. 2 and 3). A protruding extension 16 at each end of shaft 14 is rigidly attached thereto and the free end of each extension 16 is pivotally connected to the free end of piston rod 17. a corresponding double-acting piston and cylinder mechanism 18 pivotally mounted at 19 on the frame 2.
The clamp bar 13 is provided with a plurality of threaded holes formed in and spaced along said bar in the vicinity of the longitudinal edge thereof remote from the shaft 14. Each threaded hole carries a hexagonal bolt 20. provided with a locking nut 21, each bolt 20 being adjustable to vary the distance from its end remote from its head to the clamping bar 13 and being locked in its adjustment position by the locking nut 21.
In use, the clamping bar 13 is moved, by actuation of the piston and cylinder mechanism 18, from a disengaged position, shown in FIG. 2, in a position, shown in fig. 1 and 3, in which the ends of the bolts 20 come into engagement with the securing frame 3, to support the sheet 12 of thermoplastic material. Piston and cylinder mechanisms. 18 exert pressure on the clamping bar through the piston rods 17 and extensions 16, and the clamping pressure is transmitted through the bolts 20 to effectively clamp the sheet 12 in position so that it can be heated. and conformed.
After the heating and shaping operations the wet sheet is removed from the machine for vacuum shaping by the actuation of the piston and cylinder mechanisms 18 to remove the piston rods 17, and bring the clamping bar 13 through. rotation to the position shown in fig. 2. The clamp frame 3 is then lifted by the piston and cylinder sets 4 to allow removal.
The bolts 20 can be adjusted and the locking nuts 21 can be locked so as to obtain an even distribution of the clamping pressure transmitted by the clamping bar 13 to the clamping frame 3 and from there to the sheet 12 which is clamped and also to compensate for any variation, due for example to a warping or to the forces, which may occur over time in the shape of the clamping frame 3.
