Dans une forme d'exécution particulière de la machine selon l'invention, pour permet= tre au dispositif porte-raclette ,d'être adapté aux différents-types d'encre d'impression, le' support de la raclette est supporté au moyen des bras articulés, par l'entremisse de guides curvilignes solidaires de l'élément de support articulé auxdits bras;
Dans cette forme de réservoir, comme repré- Eientée à la fig" 4, la raclette d'essuyage 4 et son support constituent une partie de l'enve loppe du réservoir et, afin d'adapter l'enve- 'loppe à la position de la raclette d'essuyage, la paroi 7 du réservoir qui se trouve du côté de la raclette d'essuyage est incurvée et peut glisser sur la paroi principale inférieure 7';
Rotary intaglio printing machine. This invention relates to a rotary intaglio printing machine.
In such a machine, comprising a positive device for supporting a wiping squeegee, it is necessary for this squeegee and its support to be able to be moved away from the printing cylinder in order to be able to change the squeegee and to be able to clean the cylinder.
However, when the squeegee is placed in the vicinity of the printing area, difficulties arise because of the risk of damaging the print web passing through the printing area or of clogging the rollers in the area - printing, and these considerations determine a minimum distance from the printing area at which ordinary devices including the squeegee should be disposed.
The machine forming the subject of the invention is characterized in that it comprises a squeegee holder device in which a squeegee support element is supported, in an articulated manner, by at least one pair of arms of different lengths. which can oscillate around axes of rotation, the shorter arm of each of said pairs of arms being disposed at a greater distance from the printing cylinder wiped by the squeegee than the other arm, said arms.
forcing said support element to follow a path such that the edge of the squeegee does not pass over the path of the web to be printed when said support element is moved away from the cylinder, said device making it possible to bring the squeegee very near the print area where the print cylinder contacts the print web.
Such a squeegee holder device makes it possible to place the squeegee very close to the printing zone, without running the risk of damaging the strip when the squeegee is removed.
In rotary intaglio printing machines, an important factor is the type of ink used; in fact, the ink can be either intended for general use, or intended for specific types of printed matter.
In the various kinds of ink employed, an extreme type can be called "high speed" ink. This ink has a very volatile element, so that it needs to be applied as quickly as possible. sible on paper (during the printing process on paper) or on another material on which to print, after the printing surface has passed under the wiping pad which removes from this surface the surplus of ink; if not done in this way, difficulties arise due to partial curing of the ink in: the gravure; especially if, as usual, the printing surface is exposed to the air after passing under the squeegee.
At the other extreme are the slow drying inks, and some of these inks require exposure to air for as long as possible after the print surface has been wiped clean for the ink to sit. under conditions which give a good impression at the time when the printing area, that is to say the area where printing occurs, is reached.
In a particular embodiment of the machine according to the invention, in order to allow the squeegee holder device to be adapted to the different types of printing ink, the support of the squeegee is supported by means articulated arms, by the intersection of curvilinear guides integral with the support element articulated to said arms;
the support is adjustable on said guides, so that the position of the squeegee placed against the cylinder, -with respect to the ..- printing area, can be continuously adjusted to be adapted to the different inks used .
In addition, in this particular embodiment, the angle of inclination of the squeegee on the surface of the cylinder can also: be adjusted and the squeegee holder device can be such as to allow the position of the squeegee to be changed. the squeegee relative to the printing zone without modifying said angle of inclination.
The drawing represents, by way of examples, these embodiments of the machine forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view showing the arrangement of the ink tank and of the squeegee holder device of a - first embodiment of the machine.
The-fig. 2 is a plan view of part of the. squeegee holder device of fig. 1.
Fig. 3-is an elevational view according to arrows III of FIGS. 1 and 2.
Fig. 4 is a side view along arrow IV of FIG. 1. The. fig. 2, 3. And 4 are on a larger scale than FIG. 1.
Fig. 5 is a side view of a second embodiment.
- <B> - </B> Fig. 6 is a vertical section of the squeegee attachment mechanism employed in the embodiment shown by flg. 1 to 4. The-fig. 7 is a vertical section of the squeegee attachment mechanism employed in the embodiment of FIG. 5.
In the machine shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 and with particular reference to FIG. 4, an impression cylinder is represented in 1; it has on its periphery an engraved imprint surface 2.
During the rotation of this cylinder, part of its periphery is bathed in ink contained in an ink reservoir 3, and after the cylinder has passed through the ink, it passes under a wiping squeegee 4 which removes the excess ink from the periphery of the cylinder, leaving the ink which is in the engraved parts of the periphery of the cylinder. The ink which is in the engraving is then applied -on the surface which is to be printed, this surface being, - in the particular case,
that of a strip 1 <P which passes between the cylinder 1 and a printing roller 5 which can be supported by a roller (or by rollers) of abutment 6. The wall 7 of the tank see 3, which is located the side of the printing machine where the squeegee squeegee is placed, is extended upwards and carries, articulated on it in 8 ', a wing extension 8 which extends the side wall 7 to a clamp 9 used to fix the wiper blade 4 in a support 10.
The purpose of this arrangement is to isolate the periphery of the cylinder from the atmosphere once it has exited the ink contained in the reservoir, while it travels to the wiper blade -4 .
In order to allow the wiping squeegee 4 to be approached or moved away from the printing zone, the support 10 of the wiping squeegee is mounted at each of its ends and in its middle on slides. 11 in the form of an arc of a circle which can slide on curved guides 12 whose center of curvature is on the axis of the cylinder.
The curved guides 12 have an angle in the center such that they extend --- from the region where the top of the tank 3 is located, to near: the printing cylinder 5 or the counter-stop roller 6 pressing this impression cylinder.
The support 10. of the wiper blade can be of different types; preferably, it is intended to employ a thin squeegee 4 which protrudes slightly from the support in order to give rigidity to the edge of the squeegee, serving to clean the cylinder. Lane whatever the shape given to the squeegee, the support 10 is always directed towards the interior of the guides to present the edge of the squeegee towards the periphery of the cylinder.
It is clear that the length of the arc traversed by the periphery 2 of the cylinder 1 between the wiping blade 4 and the printing zone can be continuously modified to conform to the requirements of the different inks, by making an adjustment of the slides 11 on the curved guides 12. It will be observed that the angle of the wiping blade 4, with respect to the periphery 2 of the cylinder 1 (for example the angle between the plane of the blade d wiping and a radial plane of the cylinder 1), is not modified by the adjustment of the slides 11 on their guides 12.
The angle of inclination of the squeegee 4 is also adjustable owing to the fact that the supports 10 are mounted so as to be able to pivot at 13 on the slides 11.
To effect the movement of the slides 11 on the guides 12, each slide is provided with a pinion 14, which can rotate and which is engaged with a curved rack 15 disposed on the guide, so that by rotating the pinion, we force the slide @ to move along the guide. In order to prevent the slides from descending along the guides under the effect of their own weight and that of the parts attached to them, a stop pawl 16, one way, and locking bolts 16 are provided. ', which allow the guides to be fixed once they are in place.
Each slide can be operated separately, so that the squeegee 4 can be adjusted in different positions along the cylinder. To move the squeegee holder away from the cylinder 1, for example to change the wiping squeegee 4 and clean the cylinder, a positive device is provided which, on the one hand, eliminates the risk of the squeegee 4 damaging the belt W or any other part whatsoever to the printing area and, on the other hand, that the relative position of the neighboring parts of the squeegee is not changed.
This result is obtained by supporting the curved guides 12 by a system of oscillating arms such that it is possible to move away from the cylinder the gui = des :, carrying the support of the squeegee and the squeegee itself , by making the edge of the squeegee 4 follow an L-shaped path (fig. 4) such that the edge of the squeegee does not pass over the path of the strip W.
For this purpose, each of the guides 12 is provided, approximately in its middle, with an appendage 17, directed backwards, which is articulated at two points 18 and 19 on two arms 20 and 21 which are separated one by one. on the other and whose lower ends are pivotally mounted at 22 and 23. The outer arms 21 (that is to say the arms which are furthest from the cylinder 1) are shorter than the arms 20.
By this arrangement, when the guides 12 are pulled back (that is to say when they are moved away from the cylinder), the edge of the squeegee runs along the path L, which was discussed previously, and in in the extreme position, the wiper blade support pieces are xed backwards, keeping little distance from cylinder 1.
The raclette 4 can then be reached easily or to be removed in the evening. to be cleaned, and the periphery 2 of the cylinder is uncovered and can too. be cleaned. This rear position is shown in dotted lines in fig. 4.
This squeegee holder device also makes it possible to adjust the wiper blade 4 to cylinders 1 of different diameters, the arm system allowing the edge of the wiper blade to be moved according to the diameter of the cylinder, between two limit diameters of cylinders. Thus, when the device has been withdrawn backwards, which is done with the aid of a handle 21 "carried by the central arm 21, and when it is brought forward in its working position, the device moves until = it is in contact with the cylinder.
The guides 12 are placed -in their normal position, that is to say wiping in their advanced position, by a coil spring 24 which is placed around a rod 22 which serves as a pivot for the arms 20. .
Said spring is anchored to one of its. ends to a collar 25 attached to the rod 22, and its other end is attached to a collar 26 which is loose on the rod 22 and which has teeth meshing with a set screw 27 which can be rotated in a bracket freezes 28 using a handwheel 29.
By turning this handwheel, the spring is forced to "tighten" or "relax" and thus, the torque applied to the rod 22 and hence the force can be adjusted with which the arms 20 force the wiper blade 4 to press on the cylinder 1.
When the guides 12 are brought back, in the manner described above, the tension of the spring 24 increases and, to keep the guides in their rear position,
the arm. central 21 is provided with a pawl 30 which engages in. a notch 31 formed in a fixed disc 32 and hand holds the arm 21 with the entire device in position. rear despite the action of spring 24.
When the pawl 30 is released, the device is released and can return. to the normal position. However, to exclude the possibility that the device is accidentally released and. comes back forward under the action of the spring, which would produce a shock which could damage the wiper blade 4 and 1a.
printing surface 2, a second notch 33 is provided in which the pawl 30 falls just before the edge of the squeegee 4 comes into contact with the printing surface 2. The second notch 33 thus stops the movement of the printing surface. device made under the action of spring 24 and prevents damage to the machine.
To allow the rack to finally reach the draining position, the pawl must be released from the drain notch. It is preferable to give the squeegee holder device a longitudinal reciprocation parallel to the generator of the cylinder and, for this purpose, the bearings 34, 35 of the rods 22, 23 of the system of oscillating arms. are arranged on a longitudinal slide 36 which can move on a frozen part 37 of the frame of the machine.
A back-and-forth movement is then given to the longitudinal longitudinal slide 3'6 there by means of a known mechanism comprising, for example, an eccentric crank pin, said mechanism being represented at 37 '.
In addition to the cleaning performed by the wiping blade 4, a preliminary operation can be provided for the purpose of removing the excess ink before the cylinder 1 passes under the wiping blade; this operation can be carried out by a blade 38 placed near the periphery 2 of the cylinder, the distance from the blade to the cylinder being adjustable.
When the machine is designed for the use of high speed inks, the reservoir may be of the closed type, preferably of the shape described in Swiss patent Nc 253962.
In this form of reservoir, as shown in FIG. 4, the wiper blade 4 and its support constitute part of the casing of the reservoir and, in order to adapt the casing to the position. of the wiper blade, the wall 7 of the tank which is on the side of the wiper blade is curved and can slide on the lower main wall 7 ';
it is moved by means of toothed wheels 39 'which each mesh with an arcuate 1st rack 39' arranged on a circular arc element: 392 which is fixed to the wall 'l. The toothed wheels 39 are mounted on a rod 40 'actuated by means of a gear 40 by a handwheel 41, so as to bring the upper edge of the curved plate 7 (or more precisely , the part 8) in contact with a part of the support 10 of the wiper blade.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 5, the wiper blade 4 cannot be adjusted around the axis of cylinder 1 and is very close to the printing area.
This embodiment also includes a squeegee holder device making it possible to make the path L follow the wiping squeegee in order to allow the squeegee to be removed; the elements represented in this figure bear the. same numbers. reference that the corresponding elements of FIGS. 1 to 4.
