Process for the preparation of reactive dyes The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of water-soluble organic dyes which contain at least one mono- or binuclear aromatic acyl radical connected to the dye radical via an oxygen or sulfur atom and bearing at least one low molecular weight haloalkyl group . Such acyl radicals are, for example, groups of the formula
EMI0001.0007
where x - O or S and Hal is halogen, in particular chlorine or bromine, and y z.
B. -CO- or -S02, n and m are low integers, especially between 1 and 8, p is an integer, especially between. between 1 and 3, and in which the nucleus A can also carry further substituents. It is particularly advantageous if the carbon atoms of the side chain [C.H2n + 1-.Hal, n1n each carry at most one halogen atom.
The process for producing the new dyes is that organic dyes which contain at least one and preferably more than one water-solubilizing group and at least one hydroxyl and ioder thiol group with an exchangeable hydrogen atom, with an aromatic mono- or binuclear acid, which carries at least one low molecular weight halogen alkyl group, or esterified with a functional derivative thereof.
A preferred embodiment of this method consists in the esterification with aromatic acids or a functional derivative of such an acid of the formula
EMI0001.0022
executes where y z. B. -CO- or _S02-, w Halo gene, OH or a low molecular weight O-alkyl radical, z halogen and n and p are low integers and in which the nucleus A can carry further substituents and w and z are the same or ver different halogens can be.
The new method can be applied to all classes of water-soluble dyes which have a hydroxyl and / or thiol group with an exchangeable H atom, e.g. B. with mono-, dis- and polyazo dyes, anthraquinone dyes or phthalocyanine and especially copper phthalocyanine dyes. The mono-, dis- and polyazo dyes can have coordinatively bonded metal atoms, for example chromium, cobalt, nickel or copper.
It is also possible to convert those azo dyes which have metallizable groups. Such dyes who the z. B. metallized after condensation in substance or in metal-free form by one of the usual methods with the fiber for reaction ge brought, the dyeings obtained can be aftertreated with metal donating agents.
The esterification of the water-soluble dyes used as starting materials with an aromatic mono- or dinuclear acid which carries at least one haloalkyl group or with a functional derivative thereof is preferably carried out in an aqueous medium. Here is preferably a halide, for. B. the chloride, or the free acid or an ester, e.g. B. the methyl ester used. These compounds can be used as such or dissolved in an organic solvent.
Reactions with the acids themselves are preferably carried out in concentrated sulfuric acid, if necessary in the presence of free SO3. The reactions in an aqueous medium can be alkaline, neutral or slightly acidic, depending on the reactivity of the starting materials.
To neutralize the equivalent of hydrogen halide produced when the acid halides are used, an acid-binding agent, such as sodium acetate, can either be added at the beginning of the reaction, or sodium or potassium carbonate or bicarbonate of solid sodium or potassium carbonate or bicarbonate can be added during the reaction. in powdered form or as a concentrated aqueous solution. Aqueous solutions of sodium or potassium hydroxide are also suitable as neutralizing agents.
The addition of small amounts of a wetting agent or emulsifier to the reaction mixture can accelerate the reaction.
The new dyes are suitable for dyeing, padding and printing a wide variety of fibers, e.g. B. of fibers made of cellulose, such as cotton, linen or regenerated cellulose, e.g. B. viscose rayon, copper rayon or rayon, but especially of nitrogen-containing fibers, z. Of wool, silk, synthetic polyamides [e.g. B. nylon, Perlon (registered trademark), and all types of textile products made from these fibers as well as leather.
The most favorable conditions for the application of the new dyes can easily be determined depending on the type of fiber and the dyes used. Animal fibers and synthetic polyamide fibers are dyed in an acidic, neutral or weakly alkaline medium and printed or fixed, for example. B. in the presence of acetic acid, formic acid, sulfuric acid, ammonium sulfate, sodium metaphosphate, etc. You can also in the presence of leveling agents such.
B. polyoxyethylated fatty amines or mixtures of the same with alkyl polyglycol ethers, color acetic acid to neutral and at the end of the dyeing environment the bath by adding small amounts of an alkaline agent, eg. B. ammonia, sodium bicarbonate, soda, etc., or connec tions which react alkaline in the heat, z. B. hexamethylenetetramine or urea, up to neutral or weakly alkaline reaction fen. This is followed by thorough rinsing, if necessary with a little acetic acid.
The dyeings on wool are particularly distinguished by their excellent wet fastness properties. These are based on the formation of a stable chemical bond between the dye molecule and the fiber. Often not all of the dye takes part in the chemical reaction with the fiber. In these cases, the proportion of the unreacted dye is removed from the fiber by suitable measures such as rinsing and / or soaps. Synthetic detergents, e.g. B.
Alkylarylsulfonate, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium lauryl polyglycol ether sulfate or mono- and dialkyl phenyl polyglycol ether, can be used.
The parts given in the example are parts by weight. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 67 parts of the dye which is obtained when 1 mol of 4,4 '- diamino - 3,3' - dimethyl -1,1 '- diphenyl-6,6'-disulfonic acid is added tetrazotized and on the one hand with 1 mol of 1-hydroxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid, on the other hand with 1 mol of hydroxybenzene coupling,
are dissolved in 1000 parts of water at 40, and small portions totaling 30 parts of 1-chloromethyl-benzene-4-sulfonic acid chloride are added. The hydrochloric acid produced by the esterification is bound in small amounts by adding 25 parts of sodium bicarbonate. After 2 days, the precipitated dye is filtered off and dissolved in 700 parts of water and 80 parts of acetone. Then you drop it with 24 parts of sodium chloride and filter it off again. The red dye is dried at 40 in a vacuum.
Dyeing instructions: 2 parts of the dried dye are dissolved in 4000 parts of water and heated to 50%. Then add 2 parts each of acetic acid (1000/0) and ammonium sulfate and 1-2 parts of a leveling agent and add 100 parts of a woolen fabric. It is heated to the boil within 30 minutes, held at the boiling temperature for 60 minutes and then rinsed thoroughly. A level, scarlet dyeing of very good fastness to washing, perspiration and milled as well as good fastness to light is obtained.
If, after dyeing, the dyebath is neutralized with small amounts of ammonia or hexamethylene tetramine at around 90 and the dyed goods are treated in it for 10-20 minutes, dyeings with even better wet fastness properties are obtained.
