Description
Method for improving four mechanical properties of textiles The main patent relates to a method for improving the mechanical properties of textiles, in particular flat structures made of natural and / or artificial cellulose-containing fibers, by means of condensable substances under the action of ionizing radiation, which is characterized in that the Textiles in the absence of a catalyst with solutions or dispersions of precondensates of resin-forming,
treated with itself or with the fiber reacting substances and then subjected to the action of ionizing radiation in a total dose of no more than 3 X 106 X-rays for the purpose of condensation of the precondensates.
It is known to refine fine fabrics made of cotton and regenerated cellulose by treatment with concentrated sulfuric acid in the sense of stiffening and making the fabric transparent. It is also known to induce similar effects by treating the tissue with a copper oxide ammonia solution or a sodium zincate cellulose solution. It has also already been proposed that these methods be used to make transparent fabrics crease-proof by treating them with synthetic resin precondensates and then heating them to over 100 ° C.
However, this method leads to a commercially unacceptable reduction in fiber strength in the fabrics that have already become somewhat brittle due to the transparency.
It has now been shown that in the case of transparent fine fabrics, a good crease resistance without any significant reduction in fiber strength can be achieved if the textile material is treated with solutions or dispersions of precondensates of resin-forming substances that react with themselves or with the fibers in the absence of a catalyst then subjected to the action of ionizing radiation in a total dose of no more than 3 X 106 X-rays for the purpose of condensation of the precondensates.
Example Mercerized and bleached cotton mousse of the thread count; per 1 /, 1 french Inches of 24/19 and the thread number engl. No.
80/120 was parchmented with sulfuric acid of 52.5 B6 at 15 C for 16 seconds, then post-fermented with sodium hydroxide solution 30 B6 for 15 seconds. After being washed neutral, the goods were dried under tension and then impregnated with a 101% aqueous solution of 2,5-dimethoxy-4-ethyl-2,4,6-triazone- (1),
dried at 60 to 70 ° C and then exposed to gamma irradiation in a total dose of about 2X106 X-rays at 20 C. The crease resistance is achieved by the treatment with the above-mentioned triazine and the irradiation The crease angle increases in the warp direction from 14 to 62, in the weft direction from 11 to 71. Tear resistance and abrasion resistance remain practically unchanged.
