<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Timed control device for an electric alarm clock Numerous devices are known which make it possible to obtain a timed control in an electric alarm clock in order for example to cause a ringing intended for alarm clocks or for various other triggers such as programs or delayers.
One seeks, in the movements which do not make it possible to drive, for short cycles, a direct control of a member such as an electrical or mechanical contact, to obtain the desired control from the clockwork movement by disturbing the one. here as little as possible.
In this case, we arm a triggering device using a torque distributed over a relatively long time, particularly when the desired triggering takes place at slow frequencies, on the other hand, as soon as the trigger has taken place, we must act quickly to limit the action caused by this triggering while avoiding any significant disturbances to the clockwork movement.
In known electric alarm clocks, in order to obtain this limitation, the force coming from the clockwork mechanism itself is frequently used, which leads to a significant disturbance of this movement. It has also, in other known devices, used ancillary systems such as an oscillating assembly, to cause the limitation, the assembly being armed for a long period and providing the necessary energy at the desired time.
Such a known device requires a relatively large space near the mechanism and also has the drawback of being damped from the start to the end of the trigger. This device does not thus make it possible to obtain, in the case of a bell, regular or increasing periods of operation from start to finish. It has also been proposed to provide a timepiece whose movement maintenance is ensured by an electrical device supplied by the sector or electrical energy distribution network, a timed switching device having means released in due time by a cam actuated in rotation.
In such a device, a toothed sector is brought into mesh with a wheel set by a vertical movement or at least perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the cam, in order to cause the closing of a contact for the entire duration of actuation. . At the end of the meshing period, said sector is moved by the action of a spring into a position for which this toothed sector is out of reach of the gear train. It is clear that in such a device elastic means must be provided to cause the engagement of the toothed sector with the wheel set. However, these elastic engagement means must necessarily be stronger than the spring causing the release of the sector and the mobile.
Consequently, the resetting of these elastic engagement means requires a relatively high expenditure of energy which can however easily be supplied by the distribution network. On the other hand, when it comes to transportable timepieces which must be equipped with their own energy source, it is necessary to reduce the energy expenditure as much as possible.
The present invention relates to a time-controlled device for controlling an electric alarm clock, intended to trigger an electric bell under the action of elastic means released at a predetermined time by a member of the alarm clock, and which tends to eliminate the drawbacks timed control devices known by the fact that it comprises

an endless screw capable of sliding on the shaft of the exhaust pinion and cooperating with a toothed wheel driven by interlocking means linked to the elastic means upon release thereof, in order to apply the endless screw against the exhaust pinion, the wheel causing, during its rotation, the delay of the triggering controlled by the release of the elastic means,
by the drive action of the worm through the exhaust pinion.
In this way, the desired time delay is obtained without significantly disturbing the main movement. This time delay can be relatively long and extend over a period of the order of one minute without causing a significant disturbance of the main watch movement.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side view of the device.
The fi-. 2 is an elevational view of the same device.
In these figures, we see a motor balance 1 actuating an escape wheel 2 by means of lifts 3; the escape wheel 2 is integral with an escape pinion 4; the pinion 4 is mounted on a shaft 5 pivoting on the frame at 6 and 7; a worm 8 is disposed on this shaft 5 and can move freely along this axis.
A spring 9 is fixed at 10 on the frame and cooperates with a cam 11 mounted on a wheel 12 able to move freely along a shaft 13 controlled by a button 14; a finger 15 is linked to the shaft 13 and cooperates with a cam 16 comprising a notch 17 and a ramp 18.
The wheel 12 can move along the shaft 13 and it is driven in rotation by reduction means not shown from the clockwork movement so as to make one revolution, for example in 24 hours.
At its end, the spring 9 cooperates with a pin 19 mounted on a metal sector 20 capable of pivoting about an axis 21; a pawl 22 can pivot about an axis 23 and is thus integral with the sector 20; this pawl cooperates with a ratchet wheel 24 rotating around the axis 21 and driving a toothed wheel 25 meshing with the worm 8; a leaf spring 26 applies the pawl 22. against the ratchet wheel 24.
Sector 20 comprises bosses 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31 at its periphery. These bosses are placed opposite a brush 32 connected in the circuit 33 of an electric bell 34.
An insulating sector 35 is placed vis-à-vis the sector 2.0 and can also rotate around the axis 21. This sector 35 has a notch 36 in which is placed, in the rest position, the end 37 of the brush 32. The sector 35 has a groove 38 in which moves a pin 39 linked to the sector 20.
A stop 40 makes it possible to limit the travel of the sector 20 when the latter moves according to the arrow 41. A screw 42 comprising a button 43 can move in the frame and serves as a stop for the pawl 22. The shaft 13 being placed in the frame. a determined position and the wheel 12 making one revolution, for example in 2.4 hours, the notch 17 comes opposite the pin 15 at a predetermined instant; the wheel 12 then moves to the right of FIG. 1 and the cam 11 releases the spring 9; the sector 20 moves in the direction of the arrow 41 and the pawl 22 drives the ratchet wheel 24 and the toothed wheel 25 in rotation.
The worm 8, under the action of the toothed wheel 25, moves to the left of FIG. 1 and its face comes to rest on the face of the exhaust pinion 4; the worm 8 is thus driven by the balance and progressively frees the teeth of the wheel 25 in the direction that the latter already tends to rotate under the action of the spring 9.
In this way, the desired time delay is obtained.
In this rotational movement, the sector 20 successively presents its various bosses 27 to 31 in front of the end 37 of the brush 32, this brush being isolated and connected by the circuit 33 to the bell 34, the circuit closing on the ground.
The shape of the bosses shown in FIG. 1 makes it possible to obtain a modulation causing a succession of periods of ringing and of silence, the distribution of which can be chosen in a progressive manner, as shown, to obtain a gentle awakening.
The existence of periods of interruptions makes it possible to save the energy required from the battery supplying the bell.
At the end of the rotational movement of the sector 20, the finger 39 abuts on the end of the groove 38 and the sector 35 is then driven in rotation so that the notch 36 faces the end 37 of the brush 32 .
When the sector 20 meets the stop 40, no torque is exerted on the wheel 25 and the worm 8 no longer applies against the exhaust pinion 4; given that the latter continues to rotate under the action of the balance, a disengagement occurs and the screw 8 moves slightly to the right in FIG. 1. The clockwork movement is then completely free until the next trip.
As the wheel 12 continues to rotate, the pin 15 moves along the ramp 18 and the wheel 12 moves along the shaft 13 to the left of FIG. 1; the cam 11 then acts on the spring 9 to reset it.
Sector 20 then moves in the opposite direction to that of arrow 41; the bosses 31 to 27 are unlikely to come into contact with the end
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
moth 37 of the brush 32, because this end is still held in the notch 36.
At the end of the return stroke, the pin 39 abuts against the other end of the groove 38 of the sector 35 and this sector is driven in the same direction of rotation as that of the sector 20; the brush 37 is then released from the notch 36 and is free for the next trigger.
The position of the screw 42, the end of which cooperates with the pawl 22, determines the moment when this pawl, by pivoting about its axis 2.3, no longer acts on the ratchet wheel 24. It is thus possible to adjust the delay time. by releasing the ratchet wheel 24 more or less early; as soon as this ratchet wheel is no longer driven by the pawl 22, the worm 8 moves to the right of the figure and the braking action which it caused is destroyed. The sector 20 then continues the end of its course at a higher speed without delay.
