in which R and R 'may be the same or different and represent hydrogen atoms, halogen atoms or alkyl or alkoxy groups.
R and R 'can be in ortho, meta or para position, and n is equal to 1 or 2.

After cooling, the mass is taken up in dilute hydrochloric acid and then extracted with benzene to remove excess 2- (2-chlor-ethoxy) -ethanol. The acidic solution is saturated with potassium carbonate and extracted with benzene. The benzene solution is then washed and distilled.
We obtain, with a yield of 80%, 1- (p -bromo-benzhydryl) - 4 - [2 - (2-hydroxy-ethoxy) - ethyl] -piperazine with a boiling point of 224 (1 C / 0.01 mm Hg.
The corresponding dihydrochloride is prepared by dissolving this base in absolute alcohol and reacting with an excess of gaseous hydrochloric acid.
