d'angle 43, 44.
Machine intended for closing a container such as a bag
For the packaging of small objects, for example candies, it is common practice to use containers such as bags or sachets, generally made of paper or transparent plastic material and these containers are closed by ligating them by means of a semi-rigid link formed, for example, a ductile metal wire enclosed in a plastic sheath.
The present invention relates to a machine intended for closing a container such as a bag by placing a semi-rigid link around the tightened end thereof, characterized in that it comprises a clamp device used to tighten one end of the container and to keep it fixed, means for removing a segment of a semi-rigid link and bringing this segment in front of the tightened portion as well as means for bending this link around said portion and for twisting the ends of said link.
Preferably, the machine is electrically controlled, the completion of its operating cycle then being triggered by the container itself which comes to rest on a member ensuring the establishment of the electrical contact.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the machine forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a schematic elevation view thereof, with partial cutaway.
Figs. 2a to 2f are schematic views respectively in plan or in elevation, showing how the tightening of the free end of a bag is carried out.

Fig. 4 is a corresponding plan view.
Figs. Sa to Sf, are schematic views showing how the link is set up.
Fig. 6 is a schematic front view of a label.
Figs. 7a, 7b and 7c show how the ligature device works.
Fig. 8 is a general schematic view showing how the control of the various essential parts of the machine is carried out.
The machine shown comprises a frame at the upper part of which is provided a feed passage 2 into which the bags 1 are discharged one after the other according to the arrow f, from a filling station not shown.
These bags fall on a movable plate 3 which makes it possible, thanks to an electrical control device not shown, to trigger an operating cycle of the machine.
Once the ligation is complete, the bags are pushed back by an ejector 4 onto a conveyor S which discharges them to a packaging station.
Figs. 2a to 2f illustrate the way in which the free end of the bags is tightened and held for the installation of the tie.
Above the plate 3 and facing the upper free end 1a of the bag 1, two movable plates 6 and 7 are provided under which are respectively located rods 8 and 9.
The plates 6, 7 and the rods 8, 9 can be moved according to the arrows g, shown in fig.
2b, to be brought against each other by flattening the free end 1a of the bag, as shown in FIGS. 2c and 2d, this free end being however only moderately clamped between the two plates.
On either side of the assembly formed by the plates 6, 7 and the rods 8, 9, there are arms 10 and 11 capable of moving towards each other according to the arrows h in FIG. 2d, in a plane passing between the lower edges of the plates 6, 7 and the rods 8, 9.
At their end, these arms include ink ches lOa, 1 ta which grip the side edges of the flattened position to tighten this portion as shown at lb in FIGS. 2e and 2f, said portion then being ready to be ligated.
Figs. 3 and 4 show a device for bringing in front of the station described above a section of a semi-rigid link which will serve to tie the tightened portion lb.
This semisrigii link is formed, in a known manner, by a strip of plastic material in which are embedded one or more longitudinal threads of relatively ductile metal such as aluminum.
This tape 12 is supplied to the machine by a spool 14, mounted loose on an axis 13 and which brakes a plate 15 pushed back by a spring 15a, interposed between said plate and a locking washer 16.
From the reel 14, the tape 12 passes over a pulley 19, pivoting, on an axis 19a, at the end of a lever 17 articulated on a fixed axis 17a and comprising a roller 17b which cooperates with a cam 18. A spring 17c tends to keep the roller 17b applied to the cam.
On the axis 19a is mounted, by means of a yoke 24a, a rod 24 provided with a fixed collar 23 and which can slide in a hole 22a of a lever 22, articulated at a fixed point 22b.
Under this lever 22 is provided a buffer 20 whose rod 20a, sliding in a fixed support 2Ob, serves as a guide for a spring 25 tending to return the lever 22 and therefore the buffer 20, towards a guide finger 21 on which passes the link 12 , the passage of this link is eff feotuant under the buffer 20.
The eccentricity of the cam 18 is such that when the roller 17b is in contact with its portion of smaller radius (fig. 3), the buffer 20 does not press the link against the guide finger 21.
When the cam turns, it pushes the lever back
17 which, via the rod 24 of the collar 23, relieves the lever 22 and allows the pad 20 to block the link 12 on the finger 21. As the cam continues its movement, the end of the lever 17 which carries the pulley 19 is lowered and a certain length of link is withdrawn by traction on the spool 14, a length which is always the same for one revolution of the cam regardless of the degree of filling of the spool 13. This method of removing the link ensures the cancellation of the deformation that it had taken due to its winding.
on the spool.
From the guide finger 21, the link 12 passes in a passage 28 which orients it in a vertical plane and then between two knurled rollers 26 and 27 which can turn in the opposite direction to each other, in the direction of the arrows ( fig. 4), so as to bring the link into a second passage 29, in front of which can oscillate a lever 31 carrying a knife 31a.
The rollers 26, 27 turn each time at an angle sufficient to bring the desired portion of link 1 2a in front of the ligature station, the sectioning taking place when the link occupies the correct position.
The length of said portion is slightly less than the amount of link unwound from the spool.
I1 is advantageous to use a link in which the metal wire is corrugated, which saves the knife since the latter does not always cut the metal wire at the same place on the blade.
The ligature station comprises a part 30 with a U-shaped recess in front of which is brought the link segment 12a and to which is associated a complementary part or mandrel 32 (FIG. 3).
As shown in fig. 5a, the recess 30a of the part 30 has small tenons 33, 34 and 35 to which correspond grooves 32a and 32b of the part 32.
The part 30 is driven by a movement along the arrow i while the part 32 is driven by a movement along the arrow j (Fig. 5a and 5c), and under the effect of these movements, the link segment 12a is inserted into the recess 30a where it remains held after retraction of the part 32, (fig. 5b and 5d), the tenons ensuring better maintenance of the link.
When the link segment has been U-shaped in this way, a small label 36 having a T-shaped tail 36a can be placed in front of it (FIG. 6).
When the part 30 continues its movement (fig.
5d and 5f), the label 36 is inserted between the branches 12b of the link segment. The part 32 continues its movement which causes it, with the link and the label, to partially surround the tightened portion 1b of the bag (FIG. 5f).
All that remains is then to activate the ligature mechanism to complete the operations.
As shown in more detail in Figs. 7a, 7b and 7c, the ligature mechanism comprises a central shaft 37 on which are provided, on the one hand, articulated clamps 39 and 40 pivoting on a cross member 37a and on the other hand, a central mandrel 38.
This ligature mechanism is arranged opposite the part 30 relative to the tightened portion lb, and, while this part moves in the direction of arrow i to bend the link 12a, grab the label 36 and come place the link around the tightened portion, the ligature mechanism moves in the opposite direction in the direction of arrow k (fig. 7a) to enter the link, the mandrel 38 penetrating between the branches 1 2b of the link, up to near the tightened portion lb, while the clamps are placed on either side of said branches and clamp them against the mandrel (Fig. 7b).
I1 then suffices to rotate the shaft 37 so that the ligature is made around the tightened portion 2b and close to this portion, thanks to the presence of the central mandrel.
When these operations have been completed, it suffices to return all the parts to their initial position and to eject the bag 1 on the conveyor S.
The different organs which have just been described
can be controlled by a cen camshaft
tral according to the diagram given in FIG. 8 tree
cams whose rotation is triggered by the fall of the
bag on the pallet 3.
In the present example, this camshaft cen
tral has two half-arbs 41 and 42 arranged
to 900 and interconnected by a pair of gears
corner 43, 44.
The half-shaft 42 carries the cam 18 (fig. 3 and 4)
controlling the lever 17 which ensures the sampling
a quantity of link 12 slightly excess per
compared to that which is necessary for the ligature.
The knurled rollers 26, 27 are controlled by
through a toothed sector 45 rotating on
a fixed axis 45a and integral with a lever 46, itself
operated by an angled lever 47, pivoting on an axis
47a and controlled by a cam 48 mounted on the
half camshaft 41.
Knife 3 la is ordered at the desired time,
by a boss 49 of the cam 18, acting on a
linkage 31b.
The movement of the shaping part 30
of the link is governed by a lever 50 articulated at 50a and
operating a rod 30a. The lever 50 is com
driven by a cam 51 mounted on the half-shaft 41.
The mandrel 32 is driven by means of a lever 52, pivoting at 52a and actuated by a cam 53 mounted on the half-shaft 42.
The translational movement of the ligature mechanism is ensured by the elbow lever 54, pivoting
on the axis 50a and by a cam 55 mounted on the half
shaft 41. The rotation of this mechanism is produced by a cam 56 mounted on the half-shaft 42. This cam acts on a lever 61, the pivot 61a of which carries a sector 57, in engagement with a pinion 59, itself integral with a sector 58 meshing with a pinion 60, integral in rotation with the shaft 37.
The clamp 39, 40 of the ligature mechanism is closed during the translational movement by the intermediary of roller levers 62 and 63 fixed to the branches 39 and 40 and which come into abutment with a fixed annular path 64, allowing keep the gripper closed during rotation.
Finally, the label 36, taken by a suction cup 65a in a magazine in position A, is brought to B under the effect of a turning mechanism comprising a fixed cam 65 and a rod 66 actuated by means of a lever 66a pivoting at 66b and a cam 67 carried by the half-shaft 42.
