Capstan The present invention relates to a capstan, intended to be mounted on a motor vehicle, comprising a frame carrying two drums provided with circular grooves intended to ensure the driving and guiding of a cable capable of being rolled. around a coil mounted on said frame,
characterized by the fact that one of the drums. is fixed on a motor shaft carrying a toothed wheel intended to be driven rotatably by the latter only in one direction, this toothed wheel being linked by an endless chain to a toothed wheel mounted, by means of a clutch friction, on a shaft carried by the frame, the latter shaft carrying the coil and being provided with a wheel, provided with a brake, intended to be driven rotatably by said shaft in one direction only, the whole being arranged in way that,
when winding the cable around the reel, the wheel fitted with a brake is stationary, and the other motor shaft drives the guide drums and, by means of the two toothed wheels carrying the endless chain, the shaft carrying the spool, and that, during the unwinding of the cable, the toothed wheel carried by the motor shaft is free on the latter, and that the wheel provided with a brake, is integral with the bearing shaft coil and ensuring the braking thereof.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the capstan object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a front view; fig. 2 is an end view; fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view along 111-11I of FIG. 1; fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view along IV-IV of FIG. 1; fig. 5 is an elevational view of the capstan mounted on a tractor.
The capstan shown in Figs. 1 to 4 comprises a frame 1 carrying, rotatably mounted, a motor shaft 2; on the latter is keyed a drum 3 provided at its periphery with circular grooves 4 serving to guide and drive a cable 5 also intended to move in grooves. circulars 6 formed at the periphery of a drum 7 mounted on a shaft 8 carried by the frame 1;
the latter comprises a cavity 9 serving as a housing for the drums 3 and 7 and two uprights 10 and 11, assembled by means of a cross member 12 and carrying the shafts. 2 and 8.
The grooves 4 and 6 being of the same width, the drums 3 and 7 are mounted on the parallel shafts 2 and 8 so that they are offset from one another by the half-width of one of them.
On the shaft 2 is fixed a toothed wheel 1.3 intended to be actuated in rotation by means of a power take-off of an engine of a motor vehicle, and a toothed wheel 14 is freely mounted; the latter, being capable of being driven only in the direction of arrow 15 by the shaft 2, has a pawl 16 intended to come into engagement with the teeth 17 of a ratchet wheel 18 keyed to the latter.
The toothed wheel 14 is connected by an endless chain 19 to a toothed wheel 20 mounted via a friction clutch 21, on a shaft 22, the latter being mounted rotatably on two bearings 23 and 24 fixed. by means of screws 25 and 26 on the frame 1, carries a spool 27 and a freewheel 28 fitted with a tape brake 29.
The friction clutch 21 comprises a coil spring 30 bearing, by means of rings 31 and 32, on the one hand on the bearing 23 and, on the other hand, on the hub of the wheel 20; Therefore, the latter is pressed against a circular friction strip 33 bearing on a frame 34 fixed by means of a nut 35 on the shaft 22.
The freewheel 28, capable of being driven rotatably only in the direction of arrow 35, carries a pawl 36 intended to come into engagement with the teeth .37 of a ratchet wheel 38 keyed to the shaft 22; the wheel 28 carries the band brake 29 tightened by means of a bolt 39 and immobilized using a tenon 40 carried by a shoulder 41 of the frame 1.
The frame 1 has, above the housing 9, two appendages 42 and 43 carrying an axis 44; on the latter is mounted, so as to be able to oscillate, an arm 45 provided at its free end with a roller 46 intended to guide the cable 5 winding on the spool 27 or unwinding therefrom; the arm 45 can oscillate between the ends 48 of a flange 49 carried by two bars 50 fixed to the frame 1; the latter also has fixing lugs 51, 52 and 53.
The capstan shown in Figs. 1 to 4 works as follows When it comes to winding the cable 5 on the spool 27, the toothed wheel 13 and, therefore, the drums 3 and 7, are actuated in. the direction of arrows 54 and 55, by means of a power take-off on the engine of a motor vehicle; simultaneously, the wheel 14 is driven in the direction of arrow 15 and the shaft 22 with the spool 27 in the direction of arrow 56, the wheel 28 being stationary;
as the layers of the cable 5 increase on the spool 27 and, consequently, as the diameter of the latter increases, the shaft 22, under the effect of the friction clutch 21, turns less quickly, thus ensuring a regular winding of said cable 5;
when it comes to unwinding the latter, the toothed wheel 13 and the drums 3 and 7 are actuated in the opposite direction to the arrows 54 and 55, the wheel 14 then being free, and the shaft 22 being driven in the opposite direction of the arrow 56 with the coil 27, simultaneously the wheel 28 is driven in the direction of the arrow 35 and through the tape 29 ensures the braking of the coil 27.
The capstan shown in fig. 5 also comprises a frame 1 carrying shafts 2 and 22, and a coil 27; the frame 1 is fixed on the gearbox 60 of a tractor 61 having front wheels 62, rear wheels 63, a seat 64, a flywheel 65 and an engine under the hood 66. The wheel 13 fixed on the shaft 2 being intended to be driven by a wheel 67 actuated by means of the gearbox 60. A flange 68, fixed to the frame of the tractor, protects the endless chain 19 of the capstan.
