La fib. 1 est une vue schématique de ce dispositif, dans le cas où il est placé ,dans une position quelconque par rapport à l'ap pareil de projection; La fig. 2 -est une vue analogue à celle de la fig. 1, dans le cas où le dispositif se trouve placé -en dessous de l'appareil de projection; La fig. 3 est une vue en plan de l'ensem ble formé par le tambour récepteur et le ga let enrouleur;
Device for winding a film. The present invention relates to a device for winding a film, for example a cinematographic film, a soundtrack, etc., as it leaves a projection apparatus.
This device is characterized in that it comprises an idle drum inside which the film is wound from the periphery towards the center, a winding roller carried by a pivoting arm, tangent internally to said drum, and a braking mechanism. variable action, acting on said drum and controlled by the pivoting arm.
The appended drawings show, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the device forming the subject of the invention.
The fib. 1 is a schematic view of this device, in the case where it is placed, in any position relative to the projection apparatus; Fig. 2 -is a view similar to that of FIG. 1, in the case where the device is placed below the projection apparatus; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the assembly formed by the receiving drum and the winder ga let;
Fig. 4 is a sectional elevational view corresponding to that of FIG. 3, said section being made partially along lines A-P and C-D of FIG. 3; Fig. 5 is a side view corresponding to that of FIG. 3; Figs. 6 and 7 are detail views, on a larger scale, in section, showing the control mechanism .du winder roller.
In fig. 1 and 2, 1 designates the magazine reel on which is wound the film 2 to be projected, said reel being secured by any appropriate means .de the projection apparatus not shown.
The film \? is driven in the usual manner and, for example, by a toothed drum 3 for the arrival of the film \ ?. The latter passes before the objective 4 of the projection apparatus, at the output of which it is picked up by a drive device 5, then by a toothed drum 6 for output of the film. The toothed film inlet drum 3, the driving device 5, the toothed film outlet drum 6, which are found in all projection devices, have no special characteristics.
It should be noted, however, that it is necessary, as usual, that the circumferential speed of these drums 3 and 6 of arrival and exit of the film, as well as that of the driving device 5 are equal to each other.
The .dispositif for winding the film comprises a receiving drum 7 and a winding roller 8. The drum 7 is mounted on a support connected by any suitable means to the frame of the projection apparatus. The roller 8 is tangent internally. to the receiver drum 7 and is mounted at the end of a pivoting arm 51 articulated on the support of the drum 7.
The pivoting arm 51 is associated with a braking mechanism 10 pivoting about a fixed axis 50 and acting on the receiving drum 7, in such a way that this drum cannot be driven by a proper movement, independent of -this which is transmitted to it by the winding roller 8, when the latter is rotating. In other words, when the device is in operation, the brake 10 acts in such a way as to prevent any sliding of the drum 7 with respect to the roller 8. It should be noted that the action of the brake 10 must be variable. This action is degressive, so that it decreases as the amount of film wound up in the drum 7 increases.
For this purpose, the brake 10 is connected to the arm 51 by a spring 59- whose point of attack on said arm is located between the pivot axis of this last and the roller 8.
The winding roller 8 is controlled using any suitable transmission by firing from one of the toothed film inlet 3 or outlet 6 drums, or from the drive device 5. The transmission must be such that the circumferential speed of the winding roller 8 is equal to the circumferential speed of the members indicated above and forming part of the projection apparatus.
Thanks to this transmission, the rotating members in the projection apparatus as well as the rotating members of the winding device all rotate at the same circumferential speed, which is equal to the linear speed of the film in the film. projection device.
The film 2, after it has passed through the projection apparatus, is therefore wound up, without tension, which makes it possible to ensure that in the course of winding, the film is not found de terio. whether it be.
In the schematic installation of fig. 1, in which it was assumed that the winding device was placed in any position relative to the projection apparatus, the tendency of the film 2 to flour a loop at the outlet of the apparatus is used. projection, to bring it -in the winding plane, that is to say in the plane of the receiving drum 7. For this purpose, it is wedged on the axis .du roller 8 and above @de the latter, a toothed drum 11 of the same diameter as said roller 8 and consequently driven, during operation, with the same eirconferential speed.
In the schematic installations of fig. 2, -in which it has been assumed that the winding device -is located below the projection apparatus, the film which has a certain rigidity, due to its speed, penetrates directly into the receiver drum 7 forming a loop so as to enter -in the winding plane.
This result is obtained by: giving the receiver drum 7 an inclined position with respect to a horizontal plane or oblique with respect to a vertical plane. The same result could be obtained by means of a .dispositif -guiding the film 2 on its arrival -in the rolling device.
There is shown in detail, at fi-. 3 to 5. a complete embodiment of the winding device. In these figures, 12 denotes a support comprising a hub 13 in which is mounted, via a ball bearing 14, a drum 15. Thanks to this mounting, the drum 15 can rotate freely. A winding roller 16 is mounted at the end of an arm 17 provided with a hub 18 and pivoting about an axis 18 ', integral with the support 12 and perpendicular to the latter.
The arm 17 is furthermore articulated on an axis 19 parallel to the support 12. This second articulation is. destined to. allow pivoting: of the arm 17 and of the various members that it supports, so as to release the roller 16 from the receiving drum 15, as will be seen below.
The arm 17 -is connected, moreover, to the hub 18 by means of two tension springs 20 which have the purpose, during operation, of preventing the winding roller 16 from coming out of the receiving drum 15.
As shown, the arm 17 is also provided with a toothed drum 21 with a diameter equal to the diameter of the winding roller 16. The latter and the toothed drum 21, which are mounted on either side of the arm 17 , are integral. of the same axis.
With the toothed drum 21 coact two pressure rollers 22 and 23 mounted -de way to. be able to rotate on a yoke 24. The latter can pivot on a lever 25, itself articulated on an axis 26 integral with the l) ras 17. The two rollers 22 and 23 are kept in contact with the toothed drum 21. thanks to . to a spring 27 wound around the axis 26.
The winding device is completed by a brake shoe 28, mounted at the end of a rod 29 articulated on a pin 30 carried by the support of the winding device.
The shoe 28 is .maintained in -contact with the outer face of the receiving drum 15 thanks to the action of a tension spring 53 whose free end is fixed to an arm 54 pivoting about a fixed axis 55 The other end of the arm 54 is connected, by means of an articulated lever 56, to the hub 18 of the arm 17 carrying the winding roller 16.
It should be noted that the point of attachment of the spring 53 on the arm 54 is between the fixed axis 55 and the articulation axis 5 7 of said arm 54 on the lever 56. The roller 16 and the toothed drum 21 are driven in rotation, from one of the film drive organs in the projection apparatus (not shown), by means of a flexible transmission 35. For this purpose (Fig. 6 and 7), a flexible cable 63 is made so lidaire, at one .of its ends, a pin 64 provided with a worm 65 engaged with a helical toothed wheel 66 wedged on a pin 67 bearing the roller 16 and the toothed drum 21 ..
The worm 65 and the helical toothed pinion 66. Are enclosed in a housing 68 integral with the pivoting arm 17 and fitted with two ball bearings 69 serving as supports for the axis 67.
The other end of cable 63 carries a pinion intended to engage with a pinion wedged on the axis of one of the drums 3, 5 or 6.
The diameters of the various gears of the transmission are determined such that the circumferential speed of the roller 16 and of the toothed drum 21 is equal to that of the drums 3, 5 or 6, that is to say equal to the linear speed film in the projector.
So that it is easy, after winding, to take the film out of the receiving drum 15, the latter is provided, internally, with a removable crown 36 provided, on the outside, with tabs 37. This crown is preferably established by means of from a steel blade to. spring, so as to adhere sufficiently against the receiving drum and participate in the rotational movement of the latter.
It is inside this crown that the actual winding of the film 2 takes place. The crown 36 has a stapling allowing it to be opened to exit the reel when the film is wound up.
The entire winding device is contained within a casing box, the cover 38 of this box being provided with an inlet opening for the passing film, as can be expected. see there fig. 3, between two tangent rollers 40 and 41.
The operating mode of the device described is as follows: With the casing box open and the crown 36 being removed, one places inside the receiving drum 15, and on the bottom of the latter, one of the flanges 42 of the reel on which the film 2. must be wound up when it leaves the projection apparatus. This done, the crown 36 is placed inside the receiving drum 15 and the free end of the film 2 coming out of the projection apparatus is introduced into the casing box.
To ensure good winding, the said free end of the film 2 can be introduced into a slot made in the crown 36, so as to engage it between the drum 15 and one of the tabs 37 of the crown 36. The film 2 is also arranged so that its perforations 42 'are in engagement with the teeth of the toothed drum 21 and that it comes to rest against the inner face of the crown 36, position in which it is held by the roller in roller 16.
The projection apparatus being then started, after its passage over the toothed film outlet drum, the latter is dragged by the toothed drum 21 as well as by the winding roller 16 which in turn drives the receiving drum 15.
It follows that the film? is wound inside the crown 36 starting from the periphery towards the center. .
As the film 2 is being wound up, the arm 17 pivots about its axis 18 ', and moves from the periphery of the neck 36 towards the center of the latter.
It follows that the arm 54 pivots about its axis 55 and that the action which it exerts on the tension spring 53 becomes less and less strong.
It can therefore be seen that the braking exerted by the shoe 28 on the drum 15 becomes weaker and weaker as the quantity of film wound up becomes larger.
When the film 2 is completely rolled up, it suffices to open the casing box, to bring out the winding roller 16 from the inside of the crown 36 by causing the support arm 17 to pivot around the axis 19. This done, we introduce the other flange of the reel, so as to reconstitute the magazine reel. all that is left to do is remove from the receiving drum 15.
This removal is made possible, thanks to the free space which exists over the entire periphery between the ring 36 and the receiving drum 15.
After winding, the film is ready to. be projected again, since the first frame to pass in front of the lens is on the periphery of the wound film.
The receiving reel can be constituted by a reel of any known type, -on condition that its two flanges are removable, one of these having to be provided, preferably, with an extensible hub.
The device described relates to the case of FIG. 1. Obviously, for the case of the thread. 2, the toothed drum 21 would become unnecessary, the other members remaining the same.
It follows from the foregoing that the device shown and described allows a film to be wound from the periphery to the center, at a speed equal to the linear speed of projection of the film, without subjecting the latter to a ten sion, however small.
It is therefore possible, by virtue of this device, to prolong the period during which a film is not deteriorated, since the numerous rewinds which must be carried out after the films have been shown are avoided.
Moreover, since the films are not subjected to any tension, no distortion of the tape occurs, which is particularly interesting in the case of sound films.
The internal winding devices that existed until this day, or did not allow. rigorously synchronous projection and winding speeds, which caused deformations, particularly harmful in the case of sound films, good, when they included an intermediate winding member such as a belt: endless, for example, whose role was to apply different parts of the film against each other, causing slippage which had the effect of scratching the film.
The device -described and shown overcomes these drawbacks by simple means and avoids, on the other hand, the use previously proposed .de speed variators .whose operation is very .delicate and which did not give a mess results.
