The present invention relates to a drive mechanism for a cinematographic projector reel, comprising two horizontal shafts, the driving shaft and the driven shaft, carrying the reel, integral with in rotation respectively of the driving part and the driven part of a variable friction coupling device according to the weight of the coil.
As is known, one of the problems which arises in the construction of cinematographic projectors is that of driving the reels so that the linear speed of the film remains constant; this is generally achieved by the use of friction coupling devices. However, given the large difference between the inside and outside diameters of a reel, as well as the fragility of the film, it is not possible to drive the reel at constant torque, but this drive must be carried out. to do with variable torque, making it possible to make the tension of the film practically constant independently of the winding diameter.
Various mechanisms have been designed to solve this problem, most of them using a variable friction coupling device according to the weight of the spool. However, all of these known mechanisms have the drawback which consists in the appearance of non-parallelism of the shafts connected by the coupling device, following the automatic elimination of the play which manifests itself between the friction surfaces. because of their wear. It is obvious that this non-parallelism of the shafts causes overlap of the reel and, consequently, poor transport of the film and its deterioration.
The purpose of the mechanism according to the invention is to eliminate the aforementioned drawback and differs from known mechanisms by the fact that each of the driving and driven parts of the coupling device comprises a flat friction surface, perpendicular to the shaft. which carries it, these surfaces in contact with one another guaranteeing the parallelism of the two shafts, each of said parts, driving and driven, further comprising a second friction surface constituted by a surface of revolution of which the generator forms an angle with the corresponding shaft, these surfaces of revolution cooperating with each other according to the principle of the inclined plane, so as to eliminate any play arising from the wear of the friction surfaces,
while maintaining the parallelism of the shafts.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, two embodiments of the mechanism according to the invention.
Fig. 1 shows, in section, the drive mechanism of the receiving reel of a projector. Fig. 2 shows, in section, the drive mechanism of the supply reel of a projector, for reverse gear or for rewinding.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the mechanism comprises a motor shaft 1 carried by two bearings 2 and 3 formed in the frame, not shown, of a cinematographic projector. At one of its ends, the shaft 1 carries a disc. 4 provided on each of its faces, near the edge, with a fiber trim 5 and 6. The lining 6 has a surface of revolution 7 whose generatrix forms an angle with the geometrical axis of the shaft 1. The linings 5 and 6 are in contact respectively with a face 8 and a surface of revolution 9 on the inside. of a drum 10 consisting of two parts 10a and 10b.
This drum 10 is fixed to one of the ends of a shaft 11, the other end of the latter carrying a coil 12. Thus, the driving shaft 1 and the driven shaft 11, arranged end to end, are connected by a friction coupling of which the disc 4 constitutes the driving part and the drum 10 the driven part. As can be seen, the assembly constituted by the drum 10, the shaft 11 and the coil 12, is carried by the say 4 and, consequently, by the motor shaft 1. A grooved pulley 13 is fixed. to the shaft 1, by means of screws 14, allowing it to be driven in rotation by a motor, not shown, by means of a belt 15.
The mechanism described above works in the following way The spool 12, thanks to its weight, slides, according to the principle of the inclined plane, the surface 9 of the drum 10 on the surface 7 of the lining 6, until that the face 8 of the drum is pressed against the face of the lining 5, these two faces being plane and perpendicular respectively to the shaft 11 and to the shaft 1. Consequently, the pressure exerted by the drum 10 on the linings 5 and 6 of the disc 4 is a function of the weight of the reel 12. Thus, the drum 10 and the disc 4 constitute a coupling device with variable friction, between the shafts 1 and 11.
When the shaft 1 is rotated, via the pulley 13, the torque transmitted by the disc 4, therefore the driving part of the coupling, to the drum 10, therefore to the driven part, for drive the shaft 11, will depend on the weight of the spool 12 and will be proportional to the latter.
On the other hand, the play resulting from the wear of the linings 5 and 6 is automatically eliminated by the action of the weight of the spool. However, thanks to the existence of the revolving surfaces 7 and 9, the elimination of the play does not come to the detriment of the parallelism of the shafts 1 and 11, parallelism which is always preserved by the intermediary of the surfaces 5 and 8 which are continuously applied against each other thanks to the axial component resulting from the contact of the two surfaces of revolution 7 and 9.
The mechanism according to the embodiment shown in FIG. 2 is intended for driving the supply reel of a headlight, during reverse or rewinding. In this embodiment, the driving shaft 1 is a hollow shaft crossed by a piston 16. The latter comprises at one of its ends a button 17, at the other a disc 18 made angularly integral with the disc 4, by means of a stud 19 riveted in the disc 18 and engaged in an opening 20 of the disc 4. The said that 18. also carries, on its face opposite to the disc 4, a claw 21 intended to cooperate with a claw 22 similar attached to the inside of the drum 10.
A pusher 23, housed in a recess 24 of the piston 16, bears on the end of the shaft 11, under the action of a spring 25, and tends to hold the piston 16 in the position shown in FIG. . 2. The pulley 13 is not integral with the shaft 1, but with a bush 26 to which it is fixed by means of screws 27. The bush 26 is mounted loose on the shaft 1 and carries, at the 'one of its ends, a ratchet wheel 28 of tinée to cooperate with a pawl 29 carried by a wheel 30 fixed to the shaft 1 by screws 31.
The operation of the mechanism described above is as follows. When the headlamp is operating normally (forward), the pulley 13 is driven in the direction in which the latching formed by the wheel 28 and the pawl 29 is not active , so that the sleeve 26 rotates freely on the shaft 1 without driving it. The reel 12, functioning as a supply reel, is dragged by the film drive mechanism during the unwinding of the latter. On the other hand, when controlling the reverse gear of the headlight, the pulley 13 is driven in the direction in which the snap-fastening 28, 29 becomes active, so that the shaft 1 is also driven in rotation and, via of the friction clutch described above, the shaft 11 and the coil 12, which becomes the take-up coil.
Finally, for the rewinding of the film on the supply reel, it is advantageous to be able to drive the shaft 11 at the same speed as the driving shaft 1, in order to obtain a maximum rewinding speed. The mechanism described makes it possible to put the friction coupling device out of service and replace it with a claw coupling device, in the following manner After having put the headlight in reverse, pressure is exerted on the boom. tone 17 of piston 16, which causes the latter to slide, against the action of spring 25, in the direction of shaft 11.
The disc 18, being integral with the piston 16, undergoes the same displacement, allowing the claw 21 to engage with the claw 22 and to drive it with it and, consequently, the drum 10, the shaft 11 and the spool 12, at the speed of the shaft 1. In the event that the claw 21 is in front of the claw 22, as shown in the drawing, the difference in rotational speeds would allow the claw 21 to slide. on claw 22, after which full displacement of udder 16 will be possible. With the claw coupling established, button 17 can be released.
When, at the end of the rewinding, the mechanism is stopped, the rotation of the reel will continue still, thanks to its inertia, which will cause the separation of the claws and allow the spring 25 to return the piston 16 to the rest position. .
It goes without saying that, alternatively, in both the first and the second embodiment, the disc 4 and the drum 10 could be interchanged. Indeed, the disc 4 could be integral with the shaft 11 and the drum 10 with the shaft 1, without the operating principle being changed. In this case, the weight of the spool 12, the shaft 11 and the disc 4 would slide the surface 7 of the latter on the surface 9 of the drum 10, until the face of the lining 5 is pressed against face 8 of the drum, 10. Consequently, the surfaces 7 and 9 would be in contact on the lower part of the drawing, and spaced apart from each other on the upper part.
