Device for controlling at least one brake of a velocipede. The present invention relates to a device for controlling at least one brake of a velocipede, comprising, on the one hand, fixed to the axis of the pedal assembly of the latter, a socket provided with at least one pawl which, when this bush is driven in the opposite direction to a normal direction of rotation fixed once and for all, comes into engagement with one of the teeth of a ratchet wheel intended to actuate said brake and, on the other hand, a spring which constantly presses one end of the pawl against the teeth of the ratchet wheel,
characterized in that this spring is housed in a recess that. comprises the socket and is fixed to a tenon that has the latter.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, two embodiments of the device which is the subject of the invention, FIG. 1 is a sectional view of the first form.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view along I -I of FIG. 1, a protective plate being removed. Fig. 3 represents a velocipede provided with the device which is the subject of the invention, and FIG. 4 is a sectional view of the second form.
The device shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 comprises a socket 1 fixed to the axis 2 of a pedal assembly of a velocipede 8. This socket comprises at its periphery a recess 3 in which is housed a pawl 4, one of the ends of which is capable of coming into contact. in engagement with one of the teeth 5 of a ratchet wheel 6; the latter is fitted with an arm 7 intended to actuate, via a rod 9, a drum brake 10 of the rear wheel 11 of the velocipede 8.
The bush 1 has a recess 12 in which is placed a spring 13, one end of which is fixed to a tenon 14, and the other end of which constantly presses the pawl 4 against the teeth 5 of the ratchet wheel. 6. The latter, adapted to pivot on the sleeve 1, is protected laterally by two plates 15 and 16 mounted on this sleeve 1. To the sleeve 1 is fixed, by means of two screws 17 and 18, a frame 19, possessed. with two flanges 20 and 21, between which is arranged one of the ends 22 of one of the levers 23 of the pedal of the velocipede 8, this pedal 23, the axis 2 and the frame 19 being assembled by means of a key 24.
The device shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 works as follows: When the axis 2 of the pedal assembly of the velocipede 8 is driven in the direction of the arrow 25 to advance the latter, the socket 1 turns in the same direction, and the pawl 4 moves facing the teeth 5 of the wheel 6 which remains stationary on the socket 1; When the movement of the velocipede 8 must be braked, the axis 2 is driven with the sleeve 1 in the opposite direction to the arrow <B> 2 </B> 5, the pawl 4 then engages with one of the teeth 5 of the ratchet wheel 6 which pivots with the sleeve 1 by driving the arm 7, the latter via the rod 9, then actuates the brake. drum 10.
The device shown in FIG. 4 has a socket 1 provided with an extension 26; this, the axle 2 of the crankset and a pedal 23 are assembled by means of a key <B> '-) </B> 7.
The device shown makes it possible to brake by back-pedaling a so-called “free-wheel” velocipede, it can be used to actuate both a brake on the front wheel and a brake on the rear wheel of said velocipede.
