The present invention relates to a band machine for sawing logs, allowing 1. Greater sawing power, 2. The possibility of more straight sawing, 3. The possibility of considerably reducing costs. for blades either by eliminating breaks or by drastically eliminating the delicate and costly work of leveling and tensioning the blades.
For this purpose, the banding machine according to the invention, in which the blade is stretched between an upper flywheel and a lower flywheel, is characterized in that it comprises a first mechanism which, acting in the same way on the two bearings of the upper flywheel, make it possible to move the axis of the latter parallel to itself, so as to adjust the tension of the blade, and a second mechanism, independent of the first, consisting of a telescopic transmission acting on a bearing of the upper flywheel axis and on a bearing of the lower flywheel axis, so as to symmetrically incline the upper and lower axes by the same angle with respect to the horizontal.
In a particular embodiment of the machine, the two independent mechanisms can be controlled by the same operating member, each command taking place for a defined position of this operating member.
The two mechanisms can also be controlled by separate actuators. By virtue of the two mechanisms of the machine which is the subject of the invention, it suffices to tilt less than half of that practiced on current machines where only the upper flywheel is tiltable. Moreover, the crown to be practiced on the two steering wheels is also reduced by half of that performed on the only tilt steering wheel of all current constructions.
The immediate result is the considerable reduction in fatigue in the steel of the blades which, with a single tilting wheel of current construction, always work at the extreme limit of their strength.
The fatigue of. blades being thus reduced, the result is a possibility of subjecting them, during work, to a much stronger traction without risk of breakage.
The expected advantage thus achieved is to be able to radically eliminate any delicate work of planing and tensioning the blades while achieving a more straight sawing and at higher speed.

"In the first embodiment shown in Figures 1 and 2, the banding machine comprises a lower flywheel 1 and an upper flywheel 2 between which is tensioned the not shown blade of the saw.
The axis 3 of the lower flywheel 1 is carried by a fixed bearing 4 housed in a frame 5 of the machine and a vertically movable bearing 6, as will be specified below.
The axis 7 of the upper flywheel is carried by two bearings 8 and 9. These two bearings are respectively secured to columns 10 and 11 which can slide vertically in the frame 5 of the machine under the control of threaded rods 12 and 13 engaged in threads formed in the lower parts 10a, 1a of columns 10 and 11.
These threaded rods 12 and 13 are respectively keyed on pinions 14 and 15 inside which they can slide a certain height.
The lower end 13a of the rod 13 rests on a plate 16 fitted into the arm 17a of a tension cross member 17.
The lower end 12a of the rod 12 bears on a plate 18 resting on an intermediate piece 18a engaged in a sleeve 19. This sleeve is housed in the other arm 17b of the cross member 17.
This cross member 17, which can slide vertically on a central axis 20, bears on a Belleville washer 21. The latter ensures the tensioning of the saw blade. The movable bearing 6 of the lower flywheel 1 is integral with a column 22 which can slide vertically under the control of a threaded rod 23 engaged in a thread formed in the upper part 22a of this column 22.
This threaded rod 23 is driven in rotation by a bush 24 comprising a pinion 24a.
This bush 24 also drives a shaft 25 in rotation, the threaded end 25a of which is screwed into the lower part of the bush 19. This end 25a supports the plate 18 via the part 18a.
We will now describe the mechanism which allows the tensioning of the blade and the inclination of the axes of the two flywheels.
A crank 26, integral with a shaft 27, controls the two aforementioned movements. The position it occupies in FIG. 1 corresponds to the command to switch on the blade, while in fig. 2, the crank is in an intermediate disengaged position.
For this purpose, the shaft 27 carries a slide 27a, which can engage either with dogs 28a of a sleeve 28, or with dogs 29a of a hollow shaft 29.
The sleeve 28 carries a pinion 31 which controls the rotation of the pinion 24a of the sleeve 24. This control is carried out by means of a chain 32, a pinion 33 and a worm 34 which is engaged with the pinion 24a.
The hollow shaft 29 carries two worms 35 and 36 which are respectively engaged with the pinions 14 and 15.
The operation of the device will now be briefly described.
If the crank 26 is placed in the position of FIG. 1, which corresponds to the tensioning of the saw blade, it then drives the hollow shaft 29 in rotation and, consequently, the worms 35 and 36. Consequently, the pinions 14 and 15 are driven in rotation. rotation, as well as the threaded rods 12 and 13. This results in an upward movement of the columns 10 and 11, for a certain direction of rotation of the crank 26. As the threaded rods 12 and 13 rotate at the same angle for a determined rotation of the crank 26, the axis 7 of the flywheel 9 moves parallel to itself.
Since the threaded rods 12 and 13 can slide vertically with respect to the pinions 14 and 15, the Belleville washer 21 ensures the tension of the saw blade by acting on the cross member 17 and, through the intermediary of the plates 16 and 18, on the lower ends 13a and 12a of the threaded rods 13 and 12.
To ensure the inclination to the horizontal of the axes of the steering wheels 1 and 2, the crank 26 is placed in its extreme left position. The latter then drives the sleeve 28 and, through the intermediary of the pinion 31, the chain 32, the pinion 33 and the endless screw 34, it controls the rotation of the pinion 24a and the sleeve 24. This sleeve 24 drives in turn in rotation the threaded rod 23 and the axis 25. The rotation of the rod 23 results in a vertical sliding of the column 22 and, consequently, a displacement of the movable bearing 6 of the lower flywheel 1 (for example towards the down for a certain direction of rotation of the crank 26).
Likewise, the rotation of the axis 25 which is engaged by its threaded end 25a in the sleeve 19, causes a vertical translation of this axis 25 with respect to the sleeve 19 and, consequently, a corresponding vertical displacement of the plate 18. This latter and the threaded rod 12 which bears on it are raised relative to the level of the cross member 17, for the same direction of rotation of the crank 26 as previously. As a result, the column 10 and the bearing 8 are lifted slightly relative to the bearing 9 and the axis of the upper flywheel 2 is also inclined to the horizontal.
The pitches of the different threads are determined so that the handwheels are inclined at the same angle with respect to the horizontal and that their axes converge. According to a variant of this first embodiment, the control chain 32 could be omitted and one could provide an independent member of my work to control the rotation of the sleeve 24 and, consequently, the inclination of the axes of the steering wheels.
In the other embodiments which will be described below, the constituent elements corresponding to those described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2 have the same reference numbers.
In the second embodiment, shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the threaded rod 13 is integral at its lower end 13a with a threaded sleeve 40 screwed into the arm 17a of the cross member 17.
Likewise, the lower end 12a of the rod 12 is secured to a threaded sleeve 41 screwed into the arm 17b of the cross member 17. In addition, this sleeve is secured to a pinion 42 engaged with a pinion 44 secured to 'a pin 45. On this pin 45 is also mounted a pinion 46 in engagement with a pinion 47 integral with the threaded rod 23 which controls the movement of the movable bearing 6 of the lower flywheel 1.
The actuator, namely the crank 26, can drive the sleeve 48 by clutching (in its position shown in FIG. 4) or else come into engagement with the pin 49 (in its extreme right position) and thus drive the 'tree 50.
The sleeve 48 carries a worm 51 engaged with a pinion 52 integral with the shaft 45. Furthermore, the shaft 50 carries the worms 35 and 36 in engagement with the pinions 14 and 15.
The power-on control takes place as in the first embodiment, the crank 26 driving the shaft 50. To tilt the axes of the flywheels, the crank 26 rotates the sleeve 48 and, consequently, the The shaft 45. The pins 44 and 45 control the rotation of the threaded rod 12, while the pinions 46 and 47 control that of the threaded rod 23.
In the third embodiment shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, a cross member 53 which supports the round columns 10 and 11, carries a tangent wheel 54 which is keyed on a tension axis 55 whose threaded end is screwed into a support forming a fixed nut 5a integral with the frame 5 of the machine.
Column 11 is supported directly by cross member 53 and therefore follows the movement thereof.
The column 10 is supported by the threaded rod 12 on which is keyed a tangent wheel 56 housed in the cross member 53. This threaded rod 12 can slide vertically inside a sleeve 57 which it sets in rotation. The threaded rod 23 which controls the movement of the column 22 carrying the movable bearing 6 of the lower flywheel 1 is integral with this sleeve 57.
The control of the tensioning of the blade and of the inclination of the axes of the steering wheels is carried out as in the second embodiment. The level 26 can either be dogged with a worm 58 mounted loose on the shaft 50 and engaged with the wheel 56 (inclination of the axes), or engage in the pin 49 and thus drive the shaft 50 and an endless screw 59 integral with the latter and engaged with the wheel 54 (tensioning the blade).
According to a first variant of this third embodiment, the worms 58, 59 and the tangent wheels 56, 54 could be housed on the machine table instead of being housed in the cross 53.
Furthermore, the worm screws and the tangent wheels could also be controlled by two different cranks.
Finally, according to another variant, each of the two screws 58, 59 could be controlled by a trinqueballle or a ratchet lever as shown below.
In the fourth embodiment shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, the upper flywheel 2 is supported by a fork 60 which is articulated about an axis 61 on a tension slide 62 having an L-shaped profile.
In the lower wing 62a of this slide 62 is screwed a threaded rod 63 articulated moreover on the table 5b of the machine and driven in rotation by a trinqueballle or a ratchet lever 64. The vertical movement of the slide 62 ensures the setting. in blade tension.
Moreover, a ratchet lever 65 drives in rotation a sleeve 65a in which is keyed an upper threaded rod 66, screwed into the wing 62a and bearing on the lower edge of the fork 60. This ratchet lever 65 also drives in rotation of the lower threaded rod 23 which controls the vertical displacement of the column 22.
When we want to incline the axes of the steering wheels, we act on the ratchet lever 65 to rotate the threaded rods 23 and 66. As the latter is screwed into the wing 62a, it therefore slides vertically in the socket 65a and acting on the fork 60, it causes the latter to tilt by a certain angle about the axis 61. The axis 7 of the upper flywheel 2 is thus inclined to the horizontal. The threaded rod 23 acts as before to incline the axis of the lower flywheel 1.
According to a variant, the threaded rods 63, 66, 23 could be controlled, as before, by worm screws and tangent wheels, mounted either on the slide 62 or on the table 5b of the machine.
According to another variant, the threaded rod 63, on the one hand, and the threaded rods 66, 23, on the other hand, could be controlled by independent cranks by means of worm screws and tangent wheels or even pinions. corner.
In the fifth embodiment shown in FIGS. 9 and 10, the upper flywheel 2 is supported by a fork 70 movable vertically under the control of the threaded rod 63 and the brinqueballle 64. In the branch 70a can slide the column 10 carrying the bearing 8 while the bearing 9 is fixed. on branch 70b of the fork.
The threaded rod 66, driven in rotation by the ratchet lever 65, is screwed into the lower part of the column 10.
The variants of the fourth embodiment could also apply in this case.
In the sixth embodiment shown in FIGS. 11 and 12, the upper flywheel 2 is supported by two round slides 71, 72 on which the bearings 6, 9 are articulated around offset axes such as 73. The bearings 8, 9 rest on rods 74, 75 which are supported on a rocking system articulated around the axis 76 and comprising the balancing counterweight 77.
A tensioning crank 78 acts on the threaded rods 12, 13, as in the case of the first embodiment, to slide the slides 71, 72 vertically. The threaded rod 13 rests on a fixed point of 'support 79 integral with the frame, while the threaded rod 12 rests on a screw. 80 locked in rotation and able to move vertically in a sleeve 81 driven in rotation by the crank 82, the worm 83 and the tangent wheel 84 integral with the sleeve 81. In this sleeve 81 is also screwed a threaded rod 85 which controls vertical movement of bearing 6 of lower handwheel 1.
Thus, a rotation of the crank 82 causes a vertical displacement in the opposite direction of the threaded rods 80 and 85, that is to say a sliding of the columns 22 and 71 and an inclination of the axes of the two flywheels.
According to a variant, the various worm screws could also be controlled by a single crank, in accordance with the first or the second embodiment.
In a seventh embodiment shown in FIGS. 13 and 14, the tensioning of the blade is controlled by a handwheel 86 which rotates the threaded rods 12 and 13 and the corresponding columns 10 and 11.
Column 11 directly supports bearing 9, while column 10 supports bearing 8 via a threaded pin 87 screwed to the upper part of column 10.
A steering wheel 88 for controlling the inclination is secured to a worm 89 engaged with a tangent wheel 90 secured to this threaded axle 87. Another pinion 91, secured to the pin 87, is in engagement with a pinion 92 integral with a keyed shaft 92a so as to be able to slide vertically in a sleeve 93. This sleeve 93 drives, via the gear train 94, 95 the threaded rod 23 which controls the movement of the movable bearing 6 of the lower flywheel 1.
Thus, a rotation of the flywheel 88 causes a vertical displacement of the bearings 6 and 8 and, consequently, the inclination of the axes of two flywheels.
According to a variant, the two columns 10 and 11 could be connected by a cross-member, a single threaded rod being in this case necessary.
Moreover, the tension system could be constituted by a fork sliding on a slide, the system of inclination of the axes remaining the same.
In the eighth embodiment shown in FIGS. 15 and 16 the threaded rods 12 and 13, which control the movement of the slides 10 and 11, bear on a cross member 96 articulated around an axis 97.
The threaded rod 23 which controls the movement of the column 22 and of the bearing 6, is also threaded at its upper part 23a. A ball nut 98 integral with an arm 96a of the cross member 96 is engaged on this end 23a.
When the threaded rod 23 is rotated by means of a brinqueball 99, the crossmember 96 pivots around the axis 97 and the threaded rods 12 and 13, which can slide in the tangent wheels 14 and 15, are one lowered, the other raised, which ensures the inclination of the axis 7 of the upper flywheel. Furthermore, the rotation of the threaded rod 23 causes a concomitant vertical displacement of the bearing 6 of the lower flywheel 1.
According to a variant, the two controls for tensioning and tilting the axes could also be obtained by means of a single actuator.
