Figure 5 est une vue à 90 de fig.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

DEVELOPMENT OF HANDLING EQUIPMENT CALLED SELF-LIFTING.
The invention relates to so-called "fork-lift" devices consisting essentially of a self-propelled vehicle provided at the front with a load lifting and transporter system.
The lifting system of these vehicles is generally constituted by a guided carriage sliding on two ascending guides, juxtaposed, tiltable in the longitudinal axial vertical plane of the vehicle and articulated around a shaft supported transversely at the front of said vehicle. vehicle, said carriage carrying a fork with two or more arms, which extends towards the front of the vehicle and which is designed to engage in the hollow of a double auxiliary floor called a "pallet", on which is deposited the load to be lifted and transported.
In practice, the arms of this fork should engage well horizontally in the hollow of this pallet, to prevent the force of said arms on said pallet from being distributed uniformly when the load is lifted. in order to avoid the deformation or the damage of this pallet or the rupture of balance of the load supported by this one.
Given the position of the driver on the self-propelled vehicle, it is difficult for this driver to realize the horizontality of this fork at the time of its engagement in the hollow of said pallet.
The object of the present invention is to overcome this drawback by providing the tilting lifting system of self-lifting vehicles with a visual control device, influenced by the action of a pendulum, which allows the driver of these vehicles to stand. report the angular position, with respect to the vertical, of said lifting system about its articulation axis, in order to be able to operate, at all times, the maneuvers necessary to carry out the correct lifting of the load to be transported #
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
One embodiment of the invention will be described below, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a schematic view showing a self-lifting vehicle, provided with the device according to the invention, the lifting system of which is in the correct position when the load is lifted.
Figures 2 and 3 are partial schematic views showing two incorrect positions of the lifting system at the time of lifting the load.
Figure 4 is a side elevational view of the control device according to the invention, the housing cover thereof being removed to show the mechanism of this device.
Figure 5 is a view at 90 of fig. 4 showing this device seen from the front, and
Figure 6 is a sectional view of this device along the line VI-VI of FIG. 4, looking in the direction of the arrows.
In these drawings, fig. 1, the lifting system of the jack-up vehicle is formed by two ascending, parallel and twin slides 11, articulated towards their lower end around a horizontal axis 12, supported transversely in a front extension 13 of the self-propelled vehicle 14 The angular position of the slides 11 around the axis 12 is for example controlled hydraulically, using jacks 15 controlled by the driver of the vehicle. Along the slides 11 is guided a carriage 16 whose movements in height are controlled, for example, by a hydraulic device not shown. At the front of the carriage 16 is fixed a fork with two or more arms 17 which extend perpendicularly in front of the slides 11.
The arms 17 of the fork are intended to engage in the hollow of a double floor 18, called a "pallet", on which the load to be lifted and transported is placed. This pallet 18, made of wood or of metal, is generally made up of boards 19 and 19 'respectively fixed to the upper and lower faces of side members 20.
The driver of the vehicle 14 being seated on the seat 14a thereof, it is difficult for him to realize the angular position of the slides 11, relative to the vertical, so that, when engaging gement of the arms 17 of the fork in the hollow of the pallet 18, these arms may have an inclination either downwards, fig. 2, either upwards, fig. 3. It follows that at the start of the lifting of the load placed on the pallet 18, the force developed by the arms 17 on this pallet acts only either on the first rear upper board 19 of said pallet, such as as shown in fig. 2, or on the board 19 in contact with the front end of the arms 17 of the fork as shown in FIG. 3.
In these two cases, the pallet 18 is subjected to abnormal forces which cause the tearing, cracking or destruction of the board in question, or the deformation of the pallet when it is metallic. In addition, in the case of a load with a great lifting height, the uneven lifting of this load can produce a disruption of balance and the fall of the same.
To avoid these drawbacks, it is necessary for the arms 17 to be in a perfectly horizontal position in order to engage and support themselves in parallel under the boards 19, as shown in FIG. 1, so as to cause a uniformly distributed pressure between the bearing surfaces.
In order to allow the driver to easily realize the horizontality of the arms 17 of the fork, the invention provides for providing the lifting system with a visual device 21 indicating at all times to the driver the angular position, relative to the vertical, of the slides 11 around their articulation axis 12, so that when the arms 17 engage in the hollow of the pallets 18, the driver can correct the inclination of these slides, and consequently that of the arms 17
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
of the fork which extend perpendicularly in front of said slides
11.
This visual device 21 (Figs. 4, 5 and 6) consists of a casing or box 22, integral with one of the slides 11 or fixed to the latter for example by means of screws engaged in openings 23 formed. in tabs 24, presented by said shoemaker, so that the index
25 (fig. 5) located clearly in the view of the driver, that is to say at the zero point of a graduated scale 26, when the lifting system is vertical and consequently that the arms 17 of the fork of this lift are in horizontal position.
The principle of the visual device 21 consists in using the verticality of a pendulum, suspended from a fixed axis and in amplifying, preferably by appropriate means, the angular deviations of the lifting system, so as to make them easily perceptible to the person. driver and allow him to rectify, in the appropriate direction, the position of said lifting system and bring the arms 17 of the fork of the latter into the correct position when picking up the load placed on the pallet 18.
The mechanism of this visual device 21, which will be described below, constitutes a non-limiting example of implementation of the principle set out above.
The casing or box 22 of this device comprises an axis 27 which supports a balance 28 terminated at its lower part by a weight 29, said balance being integral with a lever arm 30.
A second pin 31, suitably disposed in the housing 22, supports a lever with two unequal branches 32 and 33.
The levers 30 and 32, of unequal length, are connected by means of a rod 34, while the branch 33 is provided at its end with the index 25 which cooperates with the graduated scale 26.
The respective lengths of the levers 30, 32 and 33 have the effect of significantly amplifying the relative displacement of the housing 22 mounted on the tilting elevator mechanism, while the pendulum 28 maintains its vertical position.
Amplification by the means described above allows rapid and easier reading of the indication given by the index 25. This amplification of the movement provides a certain advantage, but it should be noted that the device could operate according to the same principle, if the index was simply mounted at the end of lever 30. In this case the angle described by lever 30 would be equal to the angular deviation of the lifting mechanism from the verticality, while the use of the levers of unequal length, connected together as described and shown in the drawing, can amplify the angular displacement at will in order to make it more easily perceptible.
It should be noted that during an angular displacement of the housing 22, the pendulum 28-29 will be animated, during a certain period of a decreasing pendular movement which, communicated to the lever 32-33 and to the index 25, would make instantaneous reading difficult during the angular modifications applied to the lifting mechanism in order to place it in the vertical position.
In order to avoid this pendular movement, the mass 29 suspended from the balance 28 is immersed in a damping liquid, for example oil, contained in a sealed bowl 35 formed in the lower part of the housing 22.
