Abstract
The invention relates to a safety wedge for dump trucks around a pivot, intended to be mounted between the chassis of the truck and the bucket in an inclined position. The wedge according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a body, displacement means rotatably mounted inside the body and pressing on the chassis to move the body along the length of the chassis, and a means of drive pivotally mounted inside the body, connected to the bucket and engaging the displacement means to drive the latter in rotation when the bucket is lowered, thus causing the displacement of the body towards the rear end of the chassis and blocking the bucket in an inclined position. This wedge ensures automatic locking of the bucket in an inclined position in the event of failure of the hydraulic mechanism which lifts the bucket and thus allows a mechanic or other worker to work safely under the bucket.
Description
proposés pour bloquer la benne en position inclinée et empêcher de tels accidents. Le brevet américain No 2.427.381 du '~' 16 septembre 1947, par exemple, décrit une bride de serrage sur laquelle un sabot destiné a supporter la benne est monté pivotant;

- la figure 1 illustre un camion a benne basculante équipée d'une cale selon l'invention, montée entre le châssis du camion et la benne en position inclinée;
Comme le montrent en plus amples détails les figures The present invention relates to a safety wedge for dump trucks, intended to be mounted between the chassis of the truck and the bucket in an inclined position, this wedge coming into play when the hydraulic mechanism fails which raises the bucket and thus allowing a mechanic or other worker to work safely under the bucket.
It is well known that many accidents have been caused by a bucket accidentally lowering or even sagging on the truck chassis following a failure of the hydraulic lifting mechanism. Devices have already been proposed to block the bucket in an inclined position and prevent such accidents. U.S. Patent No. 2,427,381 of the '~' September 16, 1947, for example, describes a clamp on which a shoe intended to support the bucket is pivotally mounted;
a screw is provided on each side of the flange to fix securely the latter to the chassis of the truck and avoid any sliding along the length of the chassis. It is obvious that such a device requires special tools to be assembled in fac secure on the chassis and is subject to stresses resulting from the horizontal force exerted by the bucket and which tends to push back the flange from its point of fixation.
It is the same for the device described in the patent No. 2,082,139 dated June 1, 1937, which includes a tripod intended to rest on the chassis of the truck and comprising at its upper part an open housing inside which a plate is pivotally mounted. This type of device is mounted between the chassis and the bucket has a place where a side member intersects and a cross member of the bucket, the side member resting on the plate swivel with the crosspiece engaging in a notch corresponding in the housing. It follows that this device can only be used in predetermined locations ~ ~ z3a ~ 7 ~
and well defined between the chassis and the bucket and, although it is described as not being able to slide along the chassis thanks to the notch of the housing cooperating with the crosspiece, it the fact remains that the device is subject to strong horizontal constraints and does not provide in any way automatic blocking.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these disadvantages and provide a safety wedge for dump trucks around a pivot, which can ensure the automatic locking of the bucket in a position tilted in case of failure of the hydraulic mechanism lifting of the bucket.
The shim according to the invention is characterized in that that it includes a body, mounted displacement means rotating inside the body and resting on the chassis of the truck to move the body along the length of this chassis, and a means of entrainment mounts pivoting inside of the body and resting on the chassis of the bucket. The way drive engages the means of displacement in this way that any pivoting of the first in one direction leads to a rotation of the seconds in the other direction, this ensuring the displacement of the body towards the rear end of the chassis during a lowering of the bucket and thus causing a self-blocking of the latter in an inclined position.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention tion, the displacement means comprise a first cylinder and a second cylinder space of the first, these cylinders being respectively rotatable on first and second trees which are parallel to each other and located in the same horizontal plane. On the other hand, the means of training ment comprises a support element intended to bear against a bucket reinforcement membrane and a third 1 ~ .234 ~
cylinder connected integrally to the support element and mounted pivoting around a third tree inside the body, this third cylinder having a substantially coaxial axis with that of the third shaft, the third cylinder being parallel to the first and second cylinders and being in contact with these.
. .
.
~ ~ ~; 34 ~
Preferably, the diameter of the bore of the third cylinder is significantly larger than the outside diameter of the third tree so as to create a game allowing the third cylinder to rotate freely around the third shaft. Such arrangement avoids internal wear of the third cylinder and does not requires no lubrication.
The support element advantageously comprises a base and two lateral projections defining with the base a U-shaped profile intended to receive the reinforcement member.
~ The invention will be better understood on reading the detailed description below, with reference to the drawings attached, in which:
- Figure 1 illustrates a dump truck fitted with a shim according to the invention, mounted between the chassis the truck and the bucket in an inclined position;
- Figure 2 is a side view of this wedge; and - Figure 3 is a section along line 3-3 in Figure 2.
Figure 1 illustrates a conventional truck 2 fitted a chassis 4, at the rear of which a bucket 6 rocks around a pivot 8. A hydraulic cylinder 10 is provided for raising the bucket 6 at the desired position. To block the bucket in the inclined position, a shim 12 is mounted between the chassis 4 and bucket 6.
As shown in more detail in the figures
plaques parallèles 16 et 16', espacées l'une de l'autre. Deux cylindres 18 et 18' sont montés rotatifs respectivement sur des arbres creux 20 et 20' fixés entre les deux plaques 16 et 16';
parallel plates 16 and 16 ', spaced from each other. Of them cylinders 18 and 18 'are rotatably mounted respectively on hollow shafts 20 and 20 'fixed between the two plates 16 and 16';
the shafts 20 and 20 'are parallel to each other and are located in the same horizontal plane. 18 and 18 'cylinders are based on a beam 22 of the chassis 4 and are intended Z3 ~
moving the body 14 along the length of the chassis. Each plates 16 and 16 'extend below the fulcrum of each of the cylinders 18 and 18 'of fac, we have to constitute respectively two lateral guides 24 and 24 'receiving between them the side member 22.
A third cylinder 26 is pivotally mounted around a third hollow shaft 28 fixed between the plates 16 and 16 'and is integrally connected to a support element 30 by means of a height rod 32. The element 30 re has a reinforcement frame 34 bucket 6 and for this purpose includes a base 36 and two lateral projections 38 and 38 'defining with the base 36 a U-shaped profile. The cylinder 26 is parallel to the cylinders 18 and 18 'and is in contact with them. The ends of each shafts 20, 20 'and 28 extend beyond the plates 16 and 16' and are securely attached to these plates by means of welding 40 (Fig. 3).
It should be noted that the axis of the cylinder 26 is coaxial with that of the shaft 28 and that the diameter of the bore of the cylinder 26 is significantly greater than the outside diameter of the shaft 28 of fac, we create a game 42 allowing the cylinder 26 to rotate freely around the shaft 28, This arrangement is particularly advantageous since it does not cause any wear internal of cylinder 26 and requires no lubrication.
It is easy to see that, at the limit, the tree 28 could be completely removed without affecting the pivoting of the cylinder 26 since the latter rests on the cylinders 18 and 18 '. Indeed, the role of the tree 28 is essentially to retain in place the cylinder 26 as well as the element 30 which associated with it, when the wedge is not in use.
Games 44 and 44 'are also provided between the bore of each of the cylinders 18 and 18 'and the peripheral surface from each of the 20 and 20 'shafts, but each set is restricted only at a lower part opposite the part
3 ~ 7 ~ i upper part of the shaft 20 or 20 'which is in contact with the surface of the corresponding cylinder bore 18 or 18 '. This is due to the fact that the cylinders 18 and 18 'support the weight of the cylinder 26, of the support element 30 and, mainly, of grab 6 and are therefore pushed back against their shaft respective.
The operation of the wedge according to the invention is evident in Figure 2. When, following a failure of the hydraulic lifting system, the bucket lowers from its inclined position bringing with it the chord of reinforcement 34, the element 30 on which the frame rests 34 is pivoted along arrow A via the cylinder 26 which is therefore rotated in the direction indicated by arrow B. This cylinder in turn drives the cylinders 18 and 18 'rotating in the direction indicated by the arrows C and C' respectively, which has the effect of moving the shim 12 next arrow D toward the rear end of the chassis and cause automatically locking the bucket in the tilted position.
In other words, the shim 12 makes it possible to counterbalance the horizontal force exerted by the bucket which tends to push the wedge out of its jamming point, by force equivalent oriented in opposite direction (arrow D) towards the end rear of the chassis.
