Claims (9)

1. A guarding device for a wood planing machine with a movable guard bridge (6) disposed above the table (2) of the planing machine and permitting the portion of the tool-shaft (3) located in front of the work-piece guide to be covered, means being provided for adjusting the height of the bridge (6), to permit the passage of the wood to be planed, and to permit it to move vertically whilst remaining parallel to the table (2), the guard bridge (6) being supported by an element (7) having a substantially vertical rectilinear guide (4, 5) characterised in that the rectilinear guide (4, 5) is effective along a single vertical axis and in order to immobilise the guard bridge to prevent it from rotating, is combined with a supporting mechanism by at least two levers (8, 11) located in the same vertical plane and connected together by at least one intermediate articulation shaft (10), one lever (8) being articulated by a movable shaft (9) to the supporting element (7) of the guard bridge (6) and another lever (11) being articulated by a fixed shaft (12) to a support (1) rigid with the frame of the planing machine, the guard bridge (6) being moved automatically upwards to a pre-adjusted height, under the effect of return means (13).

A guarding device for a planing machine according to Claim 1, characterised in that the guard bridge (6) is fixed, by means of its supporting element (7), to the top of an upright (5) which is vertically movable in a sliding guide (4) belonging to the support (1) rigid with the frame of the planing machine.

A guarding device for a planing machine according to Claim 2, characterised in that it includes a first lever (8) articulated by a first shaft (9) directly to the supporting element (7) of the guard bridge (6), fixed to the top of the upright (5), and a second lever (11) articulated to the first lever (8) by a second shaft (10) and articulated to the aforementioned support (1) by a third shaft (12).

A guarding device for a planing machine according to Claim 2, characterised in that it includes a first lever (8) articulated by a first shaft (9) to the lower end of the upright (5), and a second lever (11) articulated to the first lever (8) by a second shaft (10) and articulated to the aforementioned support (1) by a third shaft (12).

A guarding device for a planing machine according to Claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the lever (8) articulated by a shaft (9) to the supporting element (7) of the bridge (6) and the lever (11) articulated by a shaft (12) to the support (1) rigid with the frame of the planing machine are connected together by means of two other levers (17, 18 ; 19, 20) articulated to the first ones and constituting with them an articulated « deformable parallelogram system.

A guarding device for a planing machine according to any one of Claims 1 to 5, characterised in that a rotatable abutment cam (14) is provided for the adjustment of the height of the guard bridge (6), which cam is provided with an operating lever (16) and co-operates with one of the aforementioned levers (8, 11) in such a way as to limit the upward movement of the bridge (6) under the effect of a return spring (13).
7. A guarding device for a planing machine according to Claims 2 and 6 taken together, characterised in that the return spring (13) for the bridge (6) is housed in the vertically movable upright (5).
8. A guarding device for a planing machine, according to Claim 6, characterised in that the return spring (13) for the bridge (6) applies its effort on one of the levers (8, 9, 17, 18, 19, 20).
9. A guarding device for a planing machine according to Claim 6, characterised in that the return spring (13) of the bridge (6) applies its effort on one of the articulation shafts (9, 10, 12).
