Description

Cylindrical tank for a washing machine Washing machines are already known comprising a horizontal cylindrical tank, closely enveloping a rotating inner drum.

In these washing machines, the cylindrical tub is provided with one or two removable side flanges to allow the drum to penetrate into the tub.

This or these attached flanges are provided with seals but, on the one hand, the portion of the seal located in the lower part of the tank is subjected to the total load of the liquid contained in the tank (100 liters, for example) at the time of rinsing, on the other hand, in gas-fired direct-flame heating machines (which is the case with most modern machines), the seal which, by the necessary compressibility conditions, is in rubber, lasts a short time due to its proximity to the heating source.

An attempt has been made, in accordance with the present invention, to remedy this drawback by producing a cylindrical vessel characterized in that it comprises a cylindrical body closed at its two ends by lateral flanges and provided at its upper part with an orifice intended to allow the installation in the tank of a rotating drum, this orifice being closed by a cover which completes the cylinder of the tank.

The only problem of sealing the tank is therefore limited to the sealing of the cover which is very favorably placed in the upper part of the tank; this eliminates the risk of leakage due to high pressure and the risk of deterioration of the seal due to heating.

The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention. Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the tank without its cover; fig. 2 is a similar view with a cover; fig. 3 is a detailed sectional view of a tubular seal clamped at a point in the groove, between the tank and its cover; 1 is the cylindrical body of the tank, provided at its upper part with an orifice 2, intended to allow the installation of a rotating drum in the tank.

To this body 1 are electrically welded two side plates 3 and 4 closing the ends of the cylindrical body.

A continuous groove 5 is formed partly on the flanges 3 and 4, and partly on the cylindrical body 1.

In this groove is placed a seal (not shown) before fitting, in the orifice 2 of a cover 6 which completes the cylinder of the tank, and which clamps and compresses the seal in the groove 5.

Fig. 3 shows in section a plastic tube seal 7, clamped in the groove 5 between the flange 4, for example, and the cover 6.

The fixing of the cover 6 on the tank can be obtained in different ways: by screw 8, by spells, by strapping, by tensioners or otherwise.

The tank, because of its simplicity which does not require any deep drawing, can be made of stainless steel, for example.

The cover can be of ordinary sheet steel, galvanized or, preferably, vitrified enamel.
