Method of manufacturing a lockstitch carpet and apparatus for implementing this method The present patent relates to a method of manufacturing a lockstitch carpet according to claim 1 of the main patent, characterized in that 'said first part of the device, consisting of two loops placed against each other, is engaged between two threads of the piece of fabric,
and in that said loops are separated from each other at the same time as said ends of the pile yarn are passed with the aid of the second part of the apparatus so as to deposit said ends of the yarn of pile each in one of said loops, and in that these loops are then brought closer to each other and the two said ends of the pile yarn pass between the two yarns of the piece of fabric between which said loops have been engaged, by removing them from the piece of fabric.
The subject of this patent is also an apparatus for carrying out this process.
One embodiment of this device is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing. Fig. 1 is a front view; fig. 2 is a side view.
As for fig. 3 to 6, they illustrate, by way of example, an implementation of the method claimed below, using the apparatus according to FIGS. 1 and 2, each representing a step in making a knot.
The apparatus shown in Figs. 1 and 2 com takes a support formed by a rod 1. A head 10 is fixed to one end of the rod 1 and two loops 2, 3 are pivotally mounted on this head 10, so as to be able to be pressed against each other. 'other, as seen in fig. 1, or move away from one another, as can be seen for example in FIG. 4. The loop 2 is integral with a rod 4 and the loop 3 with a rod 5. Two springs 6, attached to the head 10, tend to bring the rods 4 and 5 closer to one another.
In addition to said support, the apparatus shown further comprises a slide 7, fixed to a hollow handle 8, which can move along the rod 1 in the direction of the loops 2 and 3. A coil spring 9, resting on the head 10, maintains the slide 7 and the handle 8 in the position shown, by pressing the latter against a button 11, which is also attached to the rod 1. Two grooves 12 are made in the slide 7 and the ends of the rods 4 and 5 are guided in these grooves so as to move away from each other against the action of the springs 6, when the slide 7 is moved in the direction of the loops 2, 3, against the action of the spring 9.
By releasing the slider 7, the spring 9 returns it to the position shown and the springs 6 also return the rods 4 and 5 and therefore also the loops 2, 3 in said position.
The slide 7 also carries two clamps 13 and 14 (Fig. 1), each of which has a branch 15 (Fig. 2) rigidly fixed to the slide 7, and a movable branch 16. The movable branches of the two clamps form a single piece. , which is fixed to a plate 17 coming with two ears 18, by means of which it pivots on the slide 7, around an axis 19. A spring 20 acts on the plate 17 and tends to close the clamps 13, 14 The ends of these are curved so as to retain a strand of wool 21, which can be put in place by simply pressing on the part 22 of the movable branches 16, to open the clamps 13, 14.
The apparatus described is intended to tie a Smyrna knot on a piece of fabric using strand 21. This piece of fabric, shown schematically in FIGS. 3 to 6, is constituted in particular by a highly perforated canvas, which is widely used on the market and in which the weft and warp threads are brought together two by two. In fig. 3, 23 and 24 denote two weft or warp threads close to one another, while 25 and 26 denote the threads respectively adjacent to the threads 23 and 24, which are more distant.
This fig. 3 represents the first step in the making of the knot. The two loops 2 and 3 of the apparatus shown in fig. 1 and 2 were passed through the piece of fabric from top to bottom, between the two threads 23 and 24 of this piece. It will be noted that to ensure this engagement of the loops 2, 3 between the son 23 and 24, it is advisable to keep a finger on the button 11, in order to prevent the handle 8 from sliding down along the rod. 1, if the resistance offered by the piece of fabric to the passage of the loops 2, 3 is greater than the force of the spring 9. Furthermore, the engagement of the device in the piece of fabric is limited by two ears 27 and 28, formed on the head 10.
As seen in fig. 3, the ear 27 grasps the thread 23 of the piece of fabric and the ear 28, the thread. 24. At this point, all you have to do is let go of knob 11 and push stick 8 down. The slider 7 then descends along the rod 1, immediately separating the loops 2 and 3 from one another. The ends of the clamps 13 and 14 engage respectively between the threads 23, 25 and 24, 26 by passing the ends of the pile thread 21 between these threads of the piece of fabric. By pushing the handle 8 all the way down, the ends of the clamps 13 and 14 do not feel in the loops 2 and 3 by inserting the ends of the pile yarn 21.
In the position shown in FIG. 4, the handle 8, the slide 7 and the clamps 13 and 14 have not yet reached the end of their travel, although the ends of the clamps are already engaged in the loops 2 and 3. From this position in FIG. 4, the clamps 13 and 14 can still descend in particular by an amount such that the ends of the pile yarn 21 emerge from the clamps 13, 14.
As soon as the handle 8 has been fully pushed in, it is withdrawn upwards, first of all until it stops against the button 11. At this point, the rods 4 and 5 of the loops 2 and 3 are no longer kept apart by the slider 7 and the springs 6 bring them closer to each other, until the loops 2 and 3 pinch the ends of the wire 21, like gold . see it in fig. 5.
By then freeing the appliance completely from the piece of fabric, the loops 2, 3 pass the ends of the pile thread 21 between the threads 23 and 24 of the piece of fabric, as seen in FIG. 6, thus forming a Smyrna knot.
To form a new knot, it suffices to open the pliers 13 and 14 and introduce a new pile thread into them.
With pile threads of different colors, previously cut all of the same length, and a canvas with colored meshes following a determined pattern, we can therefore make a tie-stitch rug with a color pattern corresponding to that of the canvas, since it It suffices to use for each knot pile threads whose color corresponds to that of the stitches of the canvas around the threads of which we are about to tie the knot. This work is also extremely fast, since to tie a knot, two back and forth movements are enough,
as was also the case with the apparatus described in the main patent. By pinching the pile yarn in the middle each time using pliers 13, 14, the pile of the carpet that is obtained all has the same length, and it is no longer necessary to waste wool and time to even them out after they have been tied off.
