Two-piece safety nut. The subject of the invention is a two-piece safety nut.
Her goal is. to allow automatic tightening between the thread of the threaded stud (screw or bolt.) intended for. receive it and the threads of the thread of the nut itself, so as to prevent any rotation, therefore everything. loosening of the nut under the effect of shocks, vibrations, etc.
This nut is characterized in that it is composed, on the one hand, of a part which constitutes the actual body of the nut and which is intended to fit, by its tapping, on said stud, this piece ending at. one of its ends by a part of smaller outside diameter than! the rest of the part. and thus forming a relatively thin crown and made elastic by slits, and., on the other hand, of an elastic washer, which has an inner diameter slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the.
aforesaid crown and fitted thereon, so that said washer produces by tightening an energetic friction of the internal screw threads which the crown presents on the threads of the gou jon.
The following description, with reference to the appended sin given by way of example, shows several embodiments of the nut.
The, fig. 1. is an axial cross section of the. first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a corresponding plan view thereof. Figs. 3 and 4 show, respectively in external view and in plan, the body of the nut shown alone, the nut constituting another embodiment.
Figs. 5 and 6 are views similar to FIGS. 3 and 4 relating to a variant.
Figs. 7-, 7 <B> '</B>, 7, <B> 71 </B> represent., In axial cross section, the spring washer.
Fig. 8 shows, in plan, said washer. In the embodiment shown, the body 1 of the threaded nut at 2 ends at one end, the upper part in the drawing, with a part 3 of an outer diameter smaller than that of part 1 and. on which tapping continues 2.
The thin crown 3 thus formed is made elastic by slots 4 of a number, shape and direction which may vary according to the problems of use of the nut and the degree of bending which it is desired to obtain. There may be only one cule cleft, but preferably there are several. They can be like, in fig. 1 and 2 arranged in axial planes or else as in FIGS. 3 and 4, as 4 'of years of planes perpendicular to the axis of the nut. The two slot arrangements 4 and 4 'can be used at the same time (see Figs. 5 and 6).
On the thin crown 3 is engaged an elastic washer 5, preferably of a metal such as steel, or of a plastic material, the internal diameter 6 of which is slightly smaller than the external diameter of the crown 3, this washer preferably having a longitudinal slot 8 (see fig. 8) which increases the inherent elasticity due to the material and which facilitates fitting on the crown 3 of the body 1.
Said washer can have different shapes, as shown in FIG. 7.
At the fi-. 7- #, the washer has the. form of a torus (10).
To the. fig. 71, the washer has the shape of a spring. spiral of rectangular section.
In fig. 7c, these are two washers of rectangular section; there may also be more elements.
To the. fig. 7d, la. washer is of rec tangular section.
An extreme collar 9 which the crown presents holds the washer in place. This flange is preferably neckline and may or may not be crimped on the. washer.
By the tightening exerted by the washer on the crown and because of the elasticity of the latter, the internal thread 2 of this crown is caused to rub strongly on the threads of the threaded stud (screw or bolt not shown) on which is screwed the nut. This results in a powerful braking although elastic which prevents any rotation, therefore everything. release of the body 1, whatever the shocks or vibrations.
Body 1 a. the shape of an ordinary nut, four-sided or hexagonal or other shape, its thread is of any type. The outer diameter 7 of the washer must be a little less than the key opening of the body, so as to allow easy and normal passage of the nut tightening device.
