Le dispositif représenté sur les, fig. I, la et Ib montre la fixation d'un manche 1 à une pelle de boulanger 2; ce manche 1 comporte deux tenons longitudinaux 3 et 4 diamétrale ment opposés, constituant des surfaces por tantes, de sorte que la section transversale de l'a portion du manche à engager dans la pelle est en forme d'un hexagone aplati, dont deux arêtes diamétralement opposées peuvent être à angle vif (fig. la) ou à angle arrondi (fig. Ib);
ces tenons 3 et 4 se réunissent pour former à l'extrémité correspondante du manche une saillie -demi-circulaire 10 desti née à venir en engagement dans une mortaise de f orme semblable.
Les tenons 3 et 4 sont destinés à venir en engagement dans,des mortaises correspon- dantes 5 et 6 que comportent les parties 7 et 8 de la pelle 2 ou "cou" de la pelle; une vis de sécurité 9 ,est disposée au travers du man- che et relie celui-ci aux parties ï et 8 sus mentionnées. Le diamètre. de cette vis est de petite dimension, car celle-ci n'a pas de poids à supporter, mais a seulement pour but d'empêcher .la sortie du manche 1.
La saillie 10 et la mortaise correspon dante coopèrent avec les tenons 3 et 4 et les mortaises 5 et 6 pour assurer une fixation parfaite du manche 1 à la pelle 2.
Dans la variante de la fig. <B>il,</B> .le manche la est muni de deux tenons longitudinaux 3a et 4a, diamétralement opposés, dont les sections sont demi-circulaires, et qui sont. destinée à venir en engagement dans des moi- taises 5n et 6a. de formes correspondantes de la. pelle 2a.
Dans cette dernière variante, la vis de sé curité n'est pas représentée.
Les dispositifs de fixation représentés sont d'une grande solidité, leur rigidité est absolue; en effet, la charge placée sur la pelle est transmise au manche par les mor taises, cette charge étant ainsi répartie régu lièrement sur de grande. surfaces, et non plus comme c'était. le cas jusqu'à maintenant sur une ou plusieurs vis, les orifices dans les quels étaient placées ces dernières tendant alors à s'agrandir du fait de la pression spécifique élevée du fer sur le bois.
Du fait que le dispositif représenté lie nécessite qu'une vis 9, il s'ensuit que le "cou" est: court, que les mortaises. peuvent être ménagées dans la pelle même, ce qui per- in-et de réaliser une construction en série, un manche et une pelle pouvant être construits de façon à être interchangeables.

The device shown in, fig. I, la and Ib show the attachment of a handle 1 to a baker's shovel 2; this handle 1 has two longitudinal tenons 3 and 4 diametrically opposed, constituting bearing surfaces, so that the cross section of the portion of the handle to be engaged in the shovel is in the form of a flattened hexagon, of which two edges diametrically opposed can be sharp (fig. la) or rounded (fig. Ib);
these tenons 3 and 4 meet to form at the corresponding end of the handle a semi-circular projection 10 intended to come into engagement in a mortise of similar form.
The tenons 3 and 4 are intended to come into engagement in the corresponding mortises 5 and 6 which the parts 7 and 8 of the shovel 2 or "neck" of the shovel comprise; a safety screw 9, is disposed through the handle and connects the latter to the parts ï and 8 mentioned above. The diameter. of this screw is small, because it has no weight to bear, but only aims to prevent .the exit of the handle 1.
The projection 10 and the corresponding mortise cooperate with the tenons 3 and 4 and the mortises 5 and 6 to ensure a perfect fixing of the handle 1 to the shovel 2.
In the variant of FIG. <B> it, </B>. The handle 1a is provided with two longitudinal tenons 3a and 4a, diametrically opposed, the sections of which are semi-circular, and which are. destined to come into engagement in halts 5n and 6a. of corresponding forms of the. shovel 2a.
In this last variant, the safety screw is not shown.
The fastening devices shown are very solid, their rigidity is absolute; in fact, the load placed on the shovel is transmitted to the handle by the mortises, this load thus being distributed evenly over a large area. surfaces, and no longer as it was. the case until now on one or more screws, the orifices in which the latter were placed then tending to enlarge due to the high specific pressure of the iron on the wood.
Since the device shown binds requires only a screw 9, it follows that the "neck" is: short, that the mortises. can be provided in the shovel itself, which allows for a serial construction, a handle and a shovel can be constructed so as to be interchangeable.
