Description
Process for the preparation of a water-soluble salt of sulfoacetic acid di- (2-ethyl-n-hexyl) amide. It has been found that a salt which is excellently suitable as a surface-active substance is obtained if a haloacetic acid or a functional derivative thereof is converted into the haloacetic acid di- (2-ethyl-n-hexyl) -amine by reaction with 2-ethyl-n .:
hexyl) - amide and then in this by treatment with. Sodium sulfite of the halogen atom is replaced by the NaSO, group, whereby the sodium salt of sulfoacetic acid di (2-ethyl-n-hexyl) amide is formed. This salt is a colorless, highly viscous substance that is readily soluble in water and organic solvents.
It can be used with advantage as a wetting and dispersing agent in the textile and leather industry as well as as an emulsion breaker in the petroleum industry.
The haloacetic acid used is preferably chloroacetic acid and the functional derivative of halogene acetic acid is preferably chloroacet.ylchloride.
Example: 90 parts by weight of sodium hydroxide solution (25%) and 58 parts by weight of chloroacetyl chloride are added to 120.5 parts by weight of di- (2-ethyl-n-liexyl) -am; in while stirring at a temperature below 20 ° C small portions gradually given.
The reaction mixture takes some time. left to stand at low temperature and then the temperature is increased to 20 to 30 ° C. in order to complete the reaction. The upper layer, which contains the reaction product, is separated off and washed neutral with distilled water. About 156 parts by weight of chloroacetic acid-di- (2-ethyl-n-hexyl) -amide from 1 -, p0.05-172 are obtained.
137 parts by weight of the intermediate product obtained are mixed with 100 parts by weight of alcohol and 120 parts by weight of crystallized sodium sulphite in 240 parts by weight are added to the mixture. Given water. The reaction mixture is refluxed until all of the chlorine is ionically bound. It forms two layers; the reaction product is in the top layer.
This is separated off and obtained by distilling off the solvent consisting of alcohol and water, 175 parts by weight of the sodium salt of sulfoacetic acid-d2- (2-ethyl-n-hexyl) amide. The product can. Can be used as a wetting agent or dispersant and as an emulsion separator without further cleaning.
