200 g Laurinsäure techn. rein (Distec A 103 der Hess Prod.
Process for the preparation of new surface-active compounds
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of surface-active compounds, characterized in that one mole of 1-oxethyl-2-undecyl-2-imidazoline of the formula I is used
EMI1.1
at least 1 mol of a salt, preferably an alkali salt, of the compounds of the formula II or III
EMI1.2
can act, being a quaternary compound of the formula
EMI1.3
is obtained in which X represents a cation.
The products thus obtained have the property of being used in high-percentage electrolyte solutions, e.g. B. to be clearly soluble and effective in strong alkalis and acids, as well as in high-percentage salt solutions.
They can therefore be used wherever the surface tension of electrolyte-containing solutions needs to be reduced, e.g. B. in viscose solutions and in viscose spinning baths, also in mercerising baths, in impregnating baths containing electrolytes, but also in the cosmetic industry, e.g. B. for the production of liquid shampoos, for which they are very well suited due to their high foaming effect and compatibility with other additives, or for the production of seawater-resistant soaps.
They are particularly suitable for the production of liquid preparations, as they provide solutions that do not become cloudy even at temperatures of 0 and below. But they can also be dried and pulverized.
The compound of the formula I is advantageously used in as pure a state as possible and, for this purpose, purified by distillation. It can be obtained by reacting lauric acid or a functional derivative thereof with equimolecular amounts of AminoÏthylÏthanolamin (HOC2H4NHC2H4NH2) at elevated temperature. The salts of the sulfonic acid of the formula (II) can most conveniently be obtained from the corresponding halohydrins, e.g. B. from l-chloro-2-oxypropane-3-sulfonic acid sodium, obtained by treating the halohydrins with alkaline agents. But you can also bring the compounds of formula I with the halohydrins to react and the reaction advantageously in the presence of acid-binding agents, eg. B. sodium hydroxide, make.
The reaction takes place at temperatures below 100. It is expediently carried out in aqueous solution. Particularly readily soluble products are obtained when per mole of the starting imidazoline (I) more than 1 mole, e.g. B.
1.3-1.6 moles of the compound (II) is used.
example 1
50 g of 1-oxethyl-2-undecyl-2-imidazoline, the preparation of which is described below, are mixed with 122 g of a 42% solution of sodium 1-chloro-2-oxy-propanesulfonic acid at 60 and, after some time, the bond The necessary amount of 30% sodium hydroxide solution (35 g) of the chlorine is added and the mixture is stirred at 600 for a few hours until a sample is clearly soluble in 25% sodium hydroxide solution.
A light, clear, viscous liquid is obtained which is readily soluble in water and which is clearly soluble in 250% sodium hydroxide solution, 50% sulfuric acid, 60% zinc chloride and 20% sodium sulfate solution and other electrolyte solutions. Aqueous solutions of the product obtained foam strongly.
If, instead of the sodium salt of chloroxypropane sulfonic acid, the potassium salt of 1-bromo-2-oxypropane-3-sulfonic acid and the acid-binding agent potassium hydroxide are used, a product with very similar properties is obtained. A similar product is also obtained if, instead of lauric acid, an equimolecular amount of methyl laurate is used to prepare the starting compound (I).
The l-oxethyl-2- undecyl-2-imidazoline used in this example was prepared as follows:
200 g lauric acid techn. pure (Distec A 103 from Hess Prod. Ltd. Leeds) were melted and stirred with 120 g of aminoethylethanolamine from Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Co. and heated to 160 g. This temperature was maintained for several hours, with water and excess aminoethylethanolamine distilling off. The last water and amine residues were then removed in vacuo and the mixture was distilled in a high vacuum.
The distillate (l-oxethyl-2-undecyl-2-imidazoline, Kpo t 2030) was obtained in a yield of more than 80% of theory as a light yellow oil which gradually solidified at room temperature.
Example 2
50 g of the 1-oxethyl-2-undecyl-2-imidazoline obtained according to Example 1 are mixed with 90 g of a 43 fig solution of sodium 1-chloro-2-oxypropanesulfonic acid with the addition of 22.5 g of 301 / piger sodium hydroxide solution for 6 hours at 70 ° stirred. The result is a clear liquid which has similar properties to that produced according to Example 1, but which, in the form of an aqueous solution containing 40 / o dry matter, is somewhat less cold-resistant than a corresponding solution of the product produced according to Example 1.
After standing for a while, small flakes form.
If the cloudy solution is cooled to 0 and filtered, a clear, cold-resistant solution is obtained.
