Sewing machine with boueleur mechanism and device for driving the work. The present invention relates to a machine. sewing of the kind comprising 1111 device for driving the work, at least one reciprocating needle, a mud mechanism and an oscillation device making it possible to make this sulky mechanism oscillate following a movement of which a portion of the .
trajectory intersects a portion chi path described by the needle in the reciprocating movements which it performs during the formation of a point, this ma- eliillc:
being. characterized by the fact that it comprises a movable member serving to couple the moulder with the oscillation device and a de-grinder serving to move said movable member to disconnect the loosening mechanism from the oscillation device,
this debrapper being made impossible to cause such a disconnection of said mechanism at any time of the period during which the needle intercepts the trajectory of said mechanism.

Fig. 9 is a view similar to FIG. 5, but relating to a variant, and fig. 10 is a vertical section relating to said variant.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 to 8, the frame of the machine comprises a base 20 having a work-carrying surface 22, at one end of which rises a column 24 and above which extends a door-to-door arm. false 26 terminating in a needle head 28. The main drive shaft of the machine is composed of two aligned sections 30 and 32 (fi. 2a.) interconnected by a coupling 34, this. tree extending. in the longitudinal direction of the. machine, in clean cushions formed in the base 20.
As seen in Figs. 2 and 3, the right hand section 30 of the main drive shaft protrudes out of the frame and carries a handwheel and pulley assembly 36 through which motive power can be supplied to the shaft. main from any suitable source. This section 30 comprises a portion to. crank 38 carrying an eccentric collar 40 which is connected, by a connecting rod 42 rising inside column 24, to the right end of a needle lever 44 pivoting at 46 to. inside of cantilever arm 26.
The needle lever 44 extends to the left (Fig. 3a) and enters the needle head 28, where it is pivotally connected to a needle bar 48 intended to effect an up-and-down movement in the needle. said head 28 under the influence of the pivoting of the needle lever 44 when the main control shaft rotates.
The bar at. needle 48 carries four needles 50 fixed one with respect to. the other in one. frame 49 carried by the. needle bar 48. One could provide other embodiments presenting. another number of needles, for example only one.
With the needles 50 cooperates, with a view to the simultaneous formation of four lines of stitching points, a loosening mechanism, indicated generally at 52, provided with means allowing. to the machine to work on four sulky threads. The sulky mechanism is. of the type to. two movements and is set up so as to cooperate with loop deployers 54 carried by a deployant bar 56 driven by a longitudinal native alter movement. As shown in particular in fi-. 4, the deployers 54 take the form of fingers and are provided at the rate of one finger for each of the son commanded by the loosening mechanism.
The deployments # eurS 54 protrude through, through openings of the bar 56 and are fixed in this bar at. using screws 58. The deployant bar 56 is mounted in bearings <B> (lu </B> built to receive a longitudinal reciprocation therein.
To this end, it is connected by a connecting rod 60 (Fig. 3a) to a sorrel arm 62 fixed to an oscillating shaft 64 which extends transversely to the machine and is. animated by movement. of oscillation in synchronism with the oscillation of the looper mechanism.
As seen in fig. 2, the shaft 64 extends across the frame of the machine and is supported by the bearing 66 to which is attached a swing arm 68 (Fig. 2a). The arm 68 is connected to the lower end of a connecting rod 70 carried by an eccentric collar 72 mounted on an eccentric 74 which is. attached to section 30 of the main drive shaft. Thanks to the connection which has just been described, it is obvious that the rotation of the main shaft will have the effect of imparting a reciprocating movement to the deployant bar 56.
The sulking mechanism 52 is also driven by an oscillation under the influence of the rotation of the main drive shaft. To this end, an oscillating loop-holder shaft 76 extends in the longitudinal direction of the machine and is supported by bearings inside the frame. The oscillating shaft. 76 carries the sulking mechanism 52 to. its front end and, near its rear end, an arm 78 (fig. 5) which pivots at 80 on a tab 82 formed on an eccentric collar 84 which is mounted on an eccentric 86 attached to section 30 of the main drive shaft.
To the looper-holder oscillating shaft 76 is also fixed an arm 88 for controlling the looper, which is pierced with a hole 90 through which passes a part of the looper mechanism 52, when this mechanism occupies the desired position for the looper. job.
The looper mechanism 52 comprises a looper-holder frame 92 pierced with a bore 94 through which it is rotatably mounted on the looper-holder oscillating shaft 76.
On the frame 92 are formed spaced ears 96 and. 98 perforated to receive a pusher provided with a conical end 102 intended to be reduced into the hole 90 of the arm 88 of the looper handle. A spring.
104, (] have one (the ends rest against the ear 96 and the other of which rests against a rim 106 fixed to the pusher 100, urges eel ui-ei towards a position such as that shown in Fig. -1, in which the conical end 102 is, engaged, inside the hole 90.
In this position of the parts, the kicker mechanism 52 is coupled with the oscillating shaft 76. At its opposite end, the pusher 100 is. provided with a head 108 to. using the (lttelle it can be recalled, against (the spring 10-l, so as to. disengage the conical end 102 of the hole 90 to disconnect the looper mechanism 52 from the arm 88 actuating the boueleur.
The looper frame 92 is provided with a rail or guide bar 110 having a dovetail cross section and. on which can be mounted in an adjustable way the group of any desired number of loops l l 2 and needle guards 11.4. In the embodiment shown, four. loopers 112 and four needle guards 11.1 are fixed in the desired adjustment positions along said rail 110 by screws 116.
Although, in other embodiments, each. bells 11_2 and the associated needle guard 114 are individually adjustable, the mechanism shown is. quickly established pairwise adjustment of these elements. Thus, two double seams can be formed in such a way that the. distance between each other is set as desired, then (read the spacing inside each seam remains constant ..
As emerges in particular from an examination of FIG. 1, the loosening mechanism which has just been described occupies, below the fabric plate, a position in which it is relatively. inaccessible.
Means allow the baler mechanism to pivot downwards and. to the right (looking at fig. 1), key so as to bring the binders: s 112 to positions accessible for threading. Such a position is represented by dashed lines in FIG. 1.
In general, in the machine shown, it is possible to disconnect the beater mechanism 52 from the oscillating shaft 76, so that this mechanism can rotate freely around said shaft and thus be brought by pivoting: to an accessible position , as has just been said. The coupling mechanism is. For-seen of a disabling device which acts to prevent the loosening mechanism from being brought, by a pivoting movement, to a threading position when other parts of the machine are. in (positions such as would be likely to obstruct such a movement.
In a stitch forming cycle, the needles 50 are launched down to a position in which the needle tips are below the loops 112, and then are raised to a position above the loops. of the cloth plate 22, as shown in FIGS. 6 and. 7. At the same time, the loopers oscillate with the shaft 76 in a correct time relationship with the movement of the needles, so as to bring the threads of the loopers to. right of needles 50 (looking at fig. 1).
The <B> 54 </B> loop unfolders are then moved in the longitudinal direction of the machine to lay out the looper threads in the form of an open loop, so that the needles and their needle threads can be thrown down through these loops. After this operation, the loopers return to their initial positions in FIG. 1.
During a portion of each work cycle, the needles 50 are therefore projected to a point lower than the level of the loopers 112 and, in this position, would be encountered by some parts of the assembly. looper @ s and needle guards if an attempt was made to rotate the looper mechanism 52 to a threading position.
The aforementioned latching or disabling mechanism is set so that the looper mechanism can never be moved to the threading position when the needles 50 are in the path of the balers 112. However , during the portion of the cycle in which the needles are at or near their upper position, the twisting mechanism can be disengaged for threading.
Reference will now be made more particularly. to <U> fi-. </U> 5 to 8 for the description of the mechanism which has just been described. Fig. 5 shows, in perspective, the elements of the stirrer mechanism detached from each other, as well as the oscillating shaft 76 and various other parts previously described.
In fig. 7, the needles 50 are located <B>, </B> above the stirrer mechanism, so that the latter can. be pivoted to a threading position, if desired. In fig. 6, the beater mechanism is. shown as having been pivoted to the threading position. In fig. 8, the needles 50 have been thrown down below the level of the loops 112 and, in such a position, it is not possible to rotate the looper mechanism to the right without resulting. a collision.
These figures show an engagement mechanism. which acts in such a way as to prevent the possibility of disconnecting the baler mechanism when the parts are. at or near the position shown in fi-. 8, this interlocking mechanism, however, allowing the disconnection when the parts are at or near the. position shown in fig. 6 and 7.
For this purpose, an oscillating shaft 118 (fig. \? And 3a) is rotatably mounted in a bush 120 fixed in an opening in the lower portion of the frame. One of the ends of the oscillating shaft 118 extends forward to a position where it is accessible to the front of the machine and. carries a knurled knob 222 by means of which the oscillating shaft can be maneuvered.
The shaft 118 can also freely perform a limited sliding movement in its socket 120, the base of the button 1.22 being used. limit this movement of the shaft towards the inside of the machine and a split ring 124 mounted on the shaft 118 limiting the movement of said shaft towards the outside of the machine. Eraser shown in. fig. 2, the inner end of the swing shaft 11_c is threaded to receive a screw <B> 126 </B> using (which a lever 1'28 is attached to the shaft 11 @. now refer to Fig. 5, where we see.
that the lever 128 is forked and embraces the pusher 100 in the region between the head 1.08 and the ear 116. The length of the forked arm 128 is such that this arm remains in, gripped with the pusher 100 over the entire length. of the pivoting movement of the looper mechanism 5'3, to.
both during the normal operation of this mechanism and during the movement of said mechanism to the threading position. The spring 130 and a washer 132 are arranged between the lug 116 and the inner face of the forked lever 128 (see fig. 2). The spring. 130 is weaker than the spring. 104 and. has only the role of maintaining the forked lever 128 against the head of the screw 108.
It follows from the. construction which has just been described that the arm 128 will pivot with the looper mechanism 52, but in the opposite direction. Lever 128 is provided with a shank 134 which pivots to and away from a position where it contacts. with a tooth 136 formed on a bracket 138 fixed to the frame of the machine (fi-ç ,. 2 and 3ct). Tail 1.34 and tooth 1.36 are proportioned (such that the tail remains below and behind the tooth as long as the needles 50 are located below the cloth plate at.
a distance such that they might obstruct the movement of the scissor mechanism towards the threading position. As long as which 134 is behind tooth 136, oscillating shaft 118 cannot be pulled out and therefore pusher 100 cannot be pulled forward to disengage the jig mechanism either. with arm 88 (fi-.
1, 3a. and 8) operating the buckle. As long as the needles 50 are located above the level of the good cleurs, the shank 131 is located above the tooth 136 (see Figs. 6 and 7). In these last positions, the oscillating shaft 118 and. the pusher 100 can. be pulled out to disengage the conical end 102 from a hole 90 and thus disconnect the spinner mechanism 52.
When the boueleur mechanism has thus been uncoupled, it can be rotated in the yen dextrorsum (by looking at fig. 1), by means of the sinistrorsum rotation of the button 122, to bring the said mechanism to a position of en- Pila-e. . In addition, between the control arm,
qs' and the frame 92 of the boueleur is disposed a spring. torsion 1.10 (see fig. 5) which constantly tends to rotate the frame 92 in the dextrorsum direction or towards the threading position. Thanks to the spring 140, the roller mechanism will be automatically disengaged each time the operator pulls the button 122, provided of course that the shank 134 is above the tooth. <B> 136. </ B >
After having threaded the loops 1.12, the operator can. turn the knob 122 in the dextrorsum direction to drive the looper mechanism 52 towards its. working position. When such a position is reached, the spring 101 of the pusher 100 is. set to. even to project the conical end 102 of the pusher into the hole 90, which couples the looping mechanism with the oscillating shaft 76.
In -çqie of this last operation, it is not necessary to pull the button 122, since the conical end 1.02 of the pusher 1.00 is moved by a cam action across the face of the control arm 88 of the boueleur and, compresses the spring 101 until said end has. reaches the desired position to elastically engage in hole 90. In fact, it is. preferable that the bou ton 122 is. pushed inwards during the return of the looper mechanism, such an operation being possible due to the fact that the weaker spring 130 can easily be compressed. This avoids the risk of the button 122 slipping out of the operator's fingers when the pusher 100 enters the control arm 88.
Figs. 9 and 10 relate to a variant in which an operating button is mounted on part of the frame of the. ma chine, cooperating parts being arranged between this button and. the boueleur, these various elements not being. brought to the mutual mating position only when the buckle mechanism has been pivoted. at. the. position it occupies when the hands are out of the way of this mechanism.
As this variant does not include a permanent link between the looper mechanism and the operating button, it is necessary that a spring be provided to disengage the twister mechanism when it is. released by the maneuver button. Moreover, in this variant, the operating button cannot be used to return the looper mechanism to its initial position after threading, such an operation having to be carried out manually.
In this variant of FIGS. 9 and 10, the looper mechanism 52 'can. rotate freely on an oscillating shaft 76 'capable of. itself receive an oscillating movement of a mechanism which may correspond, in all its details, to that described above with regard to FIGS. 1 to 8. A looper control arm 88 ', drilled with a 90' hole; is attached to the swing shaft 76 'and the looper mechanism 52' comprises a pusher 100 'having a tapered end 102' for engaging in the hole 90 'to mate the looper mechanism therewith. the swing arm 88 '.
The pusher 100 'is provided with a compression spring 104' which rests on a flange 106 'of the pous evening 100' so as to constantly urge said pusher to the right, looking at FIG. 9.
The pusher 100 'carries a head 108' to which is fixed a frustoconical ring 142, the outside diameter of which is much larger than that of the pusher 100 '.
A torsion spring 140 ', maintained under tension between the lever 88' and the looper mechanism 52 ', constantly urges said mechanism in the dextrorsum direction around the oscillating shaft 76'. Thus, each time the pusher 100 'is moved towards the. left (looking at fig. 9) to disengage the conical end 102 'from the hole 90', the looper mechanism automatically pivots forwards to the threading position shown in phantom in fig. 1.0.
In this variant, everything is avoided. risk of collision between the boueleur mechanism and the needles when giving. to a button in a position such that it can only be operated so as to release the pusher 100 'when the needles are out of the path of the looper or occupy it. low position where there is no risk of collision. To this end, a rod 144 is mounted to effect a reciprocating movement in a socket 116 fixed to a portion of the base 20.
This rod 14-1 is provided with an operating button 1.48 at one of its ends and carries at its other end a truncated conical ring 150 fixed to the rod by a screw 152. A spring. compression 151, disposed between the end of the sleeve 116 and a collar 156 of the rod 144, constantly urges. this rod to the right, looking at fig. 9.
The dimensions and the relative positions of the frustoconical rings 1-12 and 150 carried respectively by the stirrer mechanism 52 'and by the rod 144 are such that portions of these rings do not come into alignment. horizontal only when the looper mechanism has been pivoted approximately to a position such as that shown by solid lines in FIG. 10.
When this takes place, the. rod 114 can be pulled out, and the contact between the flat surfaces of the rings 150 and 142 causes a backward movement of the pusher 100 ', which uncouples the looper mechanism with the arm 88' operating the looper, after which the looper mechanism is. thrown forward to the threading position under the action of the spring. of torsion 110 '.
This position has been shown in phantom in fig. 10. After threading, the looper mechanism is returned to its working position by a manual operation during which the conical end 102 'of the pusher 1.00' is moved by a cam action across the face 158 of the lever 88 'to a position where it can elastically enter the hole 90'.
Whenever the needles have been projected below the cloth plate and occupy a position such as to obstruct the disengagement of the looping mechanism, there may be no horizontal alignment between the ring 1.12 and a portion. of the ring 1.50, and it is therefore im possible to uncouple said. mechanism by the. operating the button 1.48.
As seen in fig. 1, '2 and <B>' Da, </B> hi embodiment shown comprises iiii apparatus for pulling or driving the fabric, particularly useful in the case of a sewing machine with several needles and flat table in which the boncleurs oscillate. towards the feeding of the fabric. This apparatus comprises a piece of sardinian placed so as to prevent the fabric from following the lower feed roller below the surface of the fabric plate.
The device it has just been. issue includes a drive roller 160 mounted in yoke pillow 161 and provided (the longitudinal tooth 162.
This roller is fixed to a shaft 161 to which the meshing helical toothed wheel wing 166 is also fixed. with a smaller helical wheel 168 attached to a vertical shaft 167 which is actuated, via a coupling 169, from a clutch mechanism 170 which communicates intermittent, stepping rotation to the roller training. 1.60.
The shaft 161 of the drive roller 1.60 is mounted in the yoke 161. which is resiliently biased downward by a spring 163 tending to bring the roller 1.60 to the drive position. A lever 165, provided with a cam 171. which is arranged so as to abut against a pin 173 carried by the yoke 161, allows this yoke and the drive roller 160 to be raised when this is desired.
A lower drive roller 17 '(Figs. 1 and 3b), freely rotating and for a number of longitudinal teeth 1.71, is carried by a freely rotating shaft 176 in sinet necks of the base 20 of the machine. The teeth 1.74 are sized to mesh with the teeth 162 of the upper roller 160 when the latter has been lowered to its position (the work.
As clearly shown. in fig% 1, the lower drive roller 17? \ has a diameter such that the bottoms of teeth 7-1 do not pass above the level of the 1ilan of the top of the cloth plate ??. In the lower drive roller 173 is formed a circumferential groove 178 (see fi-. <I> eh) </I> of which. the depth is a little greater than the height of the (slow 17-1, for a purpose which will be described later.
The cloth plate? presents an opening (the reetangular general form 180 the 1 raversant (the part in part.
This plate is curved downward along the long edges of the rectangular opening 180, so as to form rounded lips 182 which protrude slightly below the undersurface of the cloth plate, concealing the same. thus smooth rounded edges which extend transversely to the direction of the feed of the fabric.
A piece of wire lard 1.81 is arranged across the opening 180 in the direction of the fabric feed, so that it engages in the groove 178 of the roller (the feed lower, <B> 172. </B> The part 781 is made of a metal wire which is curved around and below the rounded lips I8 ?, the ends of this wire being able to be fixed, for example soldered, at this location, in shallow recesses on the underside of the fabric sheet,
\ 32. The guard piece 184 occupies such a position that the upper surface of the horizontal portion 185 of this piece is located substantially in the plane tangent to the bottoms of the teeth of the lower drive roller 17 ?, at a point. next to the upper surface (the fabric plate 2 \? and parallel to this surface. In this way, the central part of the wire guard piece is entirely located inside the throat 178 of the roller (the lower feed <B> 172, </B> and it is.
no need to groove the roller (Drive: upper <B> 160. </B>
The horizontal portion 185 (the piece of uarde 18-1- has the role of preventing the fabric from following the lower roll 172 and from engaging in the opening 180, where it would be liable to fall. become entangled with working parts of the machine It is obvious that several guard parts such as the one indicated in 7.8-1 could be provided if desired.
The simple and effective device which has just been described, and which comprises the guard piece 181, is particularly useful in a machine of the general type above. described. It is obvious. that, at least in some adjustment positions, the four lines of stitches formed by this machine will cover a considerable width of the fabric on the work. The drive rollers.
160 and 172 must therefore be of sufficient axial length to extend across the seam lines when these are. at maximum spacing, so that the fabric is pulled straight into alignment. of all these lines. With rolls of such length there is a big phis. risk that the fabric falls below that of the edges of the opening 180 which is the most distant, and the. guard piece 181 thus plays a particularly important role.
