Sewing machine. The present invention relates to a sewing machine which is characterized in that it comprises a closed hollow frame, a mechanism placed outside this frame and used to drive several edges of fabric, tools, also placed outside the frame, used to form with more than two threads an overlock serving to unite the edges of the fabric, bars carrying the tools and actuated in such a way that they can only move along axial lines fixed, these bars entering the hollow frame by means of oil-tight bearings,
and a mechanism disposed inside the hollow frame for actuating these tool bars.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the sewing machine forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows in elevation one of the sides of said sewing machine, with driving cups; Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view on a larger scale, showing the machine in longitudinal section; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section through the broken line III-III (fig. 1 and 2); Figs. 4, 5, 6 and 7 are fragmentary perspective views showing the positions occupied by the tools of the sewing machine during the execution of one of the loop forming cycles.
The training cup sewing machine shown comprises a hollow frame comprising a post 1 and a side projection or head 2 at the upper end of this post. From the head 2 are suspended two wheels or training cups 3 and 4, placed tangentially, calf on their periphery and fixed to the lower end of vertical bars 5 and 6 rising so as to penetrate into socket head 2.
The shaft 5 (fig. 2) is made up of two aligned sections 5a, 5b which are mated freely, at 7, the upper section 5a journaling in a net cushion 8 mounted in the head 2, and the lower section 5b journaling in a support bracket 9 articulated at 10, which allows the bowl 3 to be pivoted in a direction away from the bowl 4 to facilitate the insertion of the edges F and F 'of the fabric between these bowls (fig. . 3 to 7).
A suitable spring device (not shown), acting on the bearing bracket 9, maintains the drive cup $ resiliently in contact with the cooperating drive cup 4. The shaft 6 of the cup 4 is journaled in a fixed bearing. 11 mounted on the frame of the machine, and at its upper end is fixed, in the head 2, a straight toothed wheel 12 which meshes with a similar toothed wheel 13 pre seen at the upper part of the upper section 5a of the 'shaft 5 of the bowl 3, so that the two bowls are actuated in synchronicity.
Intermittent rotation is communicated to the cups 3 and 4 by the intermediary of a rotary clutch device 15 mounted on the shaft 6 and actuated by a link 16 connected, by an adjustable pivoting assembly 17, to a vertical arm 18 carried by an oscillating shaft 1.9 supported by the frame 1. An oscillating movement is communicated to the shaft 19 due to the connection of an arm 20 carried by this shaft with the rod 21 of an eccentric link 22 which embraces an eccentric (not shown) mounted on a transverse drive shaft 23, the op posed ends of which are journaled in sealed bearings. oil formed by the side walls of the frame.
The motor shaft 23 protrudes outside the frame 1 on the side of the machine visible in FIG. 1, and to this shaft is fixed a flywheel 24 forming at the same time pou binds and allowing the machine to be actuated at will manually or mechanically. The needle 25 of the machine works directly above the edges of the drag cups 3 and 4 and in the zone of tangency of said cups and is fixed in the outer end of a horizontal reciprocating support member. , consisting of a bar 26 guided, to move along its axis, in an oil-tight bearing 27 mounted in the front wall 28 of the frame 1 (Figs. 2 and 3).
It emerges from FIG. 3 that the shafts 5 and 6 carrying the drive cups are arranged in a vertical plane which forms an acute angle with the vertical plane containing the path of the needle 25. At its internal end, inside the frame hollow 1, the needle holder bar 26 is connected, by means of a connecting rod 29, to a control crank 30 mounted on the motor shaft 23 of the machine (FIG. 2).
A usual thread-carrying looper is indicated at 31 and, as shown, is fixed in an adjustable manner, by a tightening screw 32, in a transverse hole provided at the outer end of a bar 33 which slopes downwards. slightly upwards, relative to the horizontal and enters the hollow frame 1. It can be seen in FIG. 2 that this bar 33 is supported in such a way that it can perform a combined sliding and oscillating movement, with the aid of oil-tight net pads 34, 35 mounted respectively in the front walls 28 and rear 36 of the frame 1.
The looper support bar 33 receives an oscillating movement of the motor shaft 23 by means of an eccentric rod 37 whose upper ex tr emitted is in contact with a pin 38 carried laterally by a block 39 which is fixed to said bar inside the frame 1, in the interval between the bearings 34 and 35. This bar 33 receives its longitudinal movements from another level 40 carried by the motor shaft 23.
The crank 40 is connected, by means of a connecting rod 41, to the lower end of an oscillating arm 42 supported so as to pivot about a fixed center 43, the upper end of this arm being itself. even connected, using a connecting rod 44, to the block 39 fixed to the bar 33.
The combined sliding and oscillating movement of the bar 33 causes the movement of the looper 31 to be effected in the direction of the feed, as well as transversely to that direction, from a position above one of the cups. trainer to a position above the other trainer cup. A tool 45 is intended to effect only an oscillating movement about the axis of another inclined support bar 46, which is substantially parallel to the push bar 33 and to the outer end of which is fixed. said tool.
As seen in fig. 2. the bar 46 operating the tool 45 is journalled in an elongated oil-tight bushing 47; fixed in the front wall 28 of the frame 1. A g Cr side pillar 48, carried by the bar 46 inside the hollow frame 1, is connected to the upper end of a rod eccentric 49 which is actuated by another eccentric (not shown) mounted on the motor shaft 23.
The usual finger 50, over which the overlock stitches are formed, is supported directly above the needle 25 and in the plane of tangency of the two cups 3 and 4, by an arm 51 provided at the end lower of a bracket 52 adjustably fixed under head 2 of frame 1. Needle thread 53 is pulled from a suitable power source (not shown) through a tension device 54 located on the side one. of my china which is far from the observer in fig. 1; this thread then passes under a fixed guide 55, passes through a guidewire 56 provided on the needle bar 26 and finally arrives at the cr; il of the needle 25.
On the other hand, the looper thread 57 first passes through a tension 58 if it is on the side of the machine facing the observer (fig. 1), then passes through a guidewire freezes 59, then arrives. to an elastic lifter 60, passes through another fixed guidewire 61, then passes to a guidewire 62 provided at the outer end of the looper bar 33 and, finally, to the looper 31.
The feed cup sewing machine described has the advantage that it can be converted to produce three-thread overcasters which are not subject to kink without the need for '' use tools or devices for handling wires other than those already existing on the machine and without the need to make any change in the movement of these devices or in the construction and arrangement of the mechanism serving to _ action ner.
For this purpose, the shape of the device 45 is slightly modified from that which it has in the known machine of the same type, that is to say that this device is provided with wings 63 and 64 respectively provided in tip and heel of its tongue-shaped portion 65, a connecting groove 66 being made between these two eyes, for the passage of a third thread 67, a hook 68 being provided at the heel, this hook serving to control the thread looper 57. As a result of this modification, device 45 is enabled to play the additional role of an additional thread carrier in the following manner.
For the sake of distinction, the device 45 will hereinafter be referred to as an "additional looper". On its way to the supplemental looper 45, the supplemental wire 67, arriving from a power source (not shown), first passes through a voltage 69 placed near the.
tension 58 relative to looper thread 57, on the side of the machine visible in fig. 1, then through a fixed guide eye 70, above a guide finger 71 (fig. 1 and 2) fixed on the underside of the head 2 of the frame and, finally, through the guide eye 62 already crossed by the wire 57 as explained previously.
The loop formation cycle of the machine is as follows: In fig. 4, the additional looper 45 has just released a loop 72 of the looper thread 57 and is about to reach the limit of its upward pivoting, as the looper 31 is pivoting forward, transversely to the side. needle, through the needle thread loop 73, at the same time as it follows the needle 25 which has already started its retreat.
In fig. 5, looper 31, having reached the limit of its forward pivoting stroke, maintains needle thread loop 73 and continues to follow needle 25, albeit at a decreasing speed; at the same time, the additional looper 45 pivots down immediately behind the looper 31 and engages the looper thread 57.
In fig. 6; the additional looper 45 has reached the limit of its downward pulling movement across needle 25, the new loop 74, made of thread 57, having been stopped by hook 68 of said looper and thread 67 having been brought by this looper to a position such that the needle can pass over this thread in its next advance stroke.
In fig. 7, looper 31 has just released needle thread loop 73 and is about to reach the limit of its return pivot stroke as needle 25 advances over the thread. 67 to hold this during the next raising of the additional looper 45.
The parts then all return to the position of FIG. 4 to begin the next loop-forming cycle, which cycle of course takes place immediately after the two fabric edges F, F 'have been fed by the cups 3 and 4. During the operation of the 'needle 25 and tools 31 and 45, as just explained, the overlock loops are formed over finger 50 in a well known manner.
The transformation of the sewing machine for the purpose described above is effected by a slight change in the handling device 45 which, until now, has functioned only as an unfolder, so that this device is able to play the additional role of a looper which carries and handles a third thread, and by providing suitable means for guiding and tensioning this third thread on its path and towards said device.
