Zigzag stitch sewing machine The present invention relates to a zigzag stitch sewing machine, comprising a needle bar driven from a horizontal main shaft, this driving shaft by means of a train. tangent worm gears,
a triangular cam rotating about a vertical axis, this cam controlling the transverse movements of the needle bar, this machine further comprising an oscillating shuttle and a conveyor driven from said horizontal main shaft.
In known sewing machines of the type defined above, transmission members are arranged in the column of the machine to transmit the driving movement from the horizontal main shaft, which is located in the upper part. of the frame, to the mechanisms arranged in the lower part thereof. Usually, the main drive shaft is fitted with a toothed wheel,
eccentrics or a pulley for transmitting, by means of lever shafts, respectively a belt, the movements, for the reciprocating control of the shuttle and the transporter.
The object of the invention is to simplify the drive mechanisms of a sewing machine by reducing as much as possible the number of parts that these mechanisms include. The zigzag stitch sewing machine according to the invention,
is characterized by the fact that the triangular cam is fixed to the upper end of a vertical shaft, the lower end of which carries control cams for the movements of the shuttle and of the conveyor.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the sewing machine according to the invention. Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the entire mechanism of this machine, with the exception of the driving members.
The fia. 2 is a plan view of the lower part of the machine mechanism.
Like the usual sewing machines, this machine comprises a main shaft 1 arranged horizontally in bearings formed in. the upper part of the frame 2 of the sewing machine. At one of its ends,
this shaft 1 carries a flywheel 3, and at its other end, a crank 4 intended for driving a vertical reciprocating motion of a needle bar 5 sliding in bearings 6 and 7 formed in a cradle 8.
The needle bar 5 is connected to the crank 4 by a connecting rod 9 rigidly carrying the thread pulling arm 10 on it. The driving means of the main shaft 1 have not been shown in the drawing.
The cradle 8 is mounted oscillating on an axis 11 carried by the frame of the machine.
The zigzag movement of the needle bar 5 is controlled by causing a bone movement, cradle 8 by means of a triangular cam 12 fixed to the upper end of a vertical shaft 13.
The transmission of movement from the main shaft 1 to the triangular cam 12 is effected by means of a gear train comprising a tangent screw 14 integral with the shaft 1 and which meshes with a pinion 15 integral of the shaft 13. In the particular case, the cam 12 is integral with the pinion 15.
Since the needle bar has to make two stitching movements for each transverse oscillation movement, the drive ratio between main shaft 1 and vertical shaft 13 is 2: 1.
The oscillation movements are transmitted to the cradle 8 by means of a feeling finger 16 of the cam 12 which, by following the profile of this cam, causes oscillating movements of an arm 17 articulated at 18 on a lever 19 pivoting about an axis 20 on the frame of the machine.
The edge 21 of the arm 17 constitutes a slide in contact with which the end 22 of a rod 23 is located, the other end of which is articulated at 24 on an extension 25 of the cradle 8. This rod 23 has an opening. elongate 26 in which is engaged a guide finger 27 carried by a lever 28, also articulated along the axis 20 carried by the frame of the machine.
By maneuvering the end 29 of the lever 28, it is possible to bring the end 22 of the rod 23 to different points along the slide 21 to vary the amplitude of the oscillating movements transmitted to the cradle. 8. The adjustment of the centering position of the needle 30 is effected by operating the lever 19 from its end 31 constituting a net control ma.
The transmission of the movement of the main shaft 1 to the mechanism located in the lower part of the machine is effected by means of the vertical shaft 13 carrying the triangular cam 12 at its upper end. On the lower end of this shaft 13 is fixed a plate 32 in each of the faces of which is formed a groove 33, respectively 75.
These grooves 33 and 75 constitute forced cams intended to control, on the one hand, the movements of the claw 34 of the conveyor and, on the other hand, the oscillating movements of the shuttle 35.
The claw 34 of the conveyor is fixed to a support 36 in the form of a stirrup, carrying a vertical axis 37. This support 36 is connected, via this axis 37, to one end of a lever 38 mounted oscillating along an axis 39 fixed in the lower part of the frame of the machine. The other end 40 of the lever 38 is articulated to a link 41 itself articulated to another similar link 42,
one end of which is connected at 43 to the end of a lever 44 which pivots along an axis 45 of the frame. of the machine. The end 46 of this lever 44 carries a follower finger 47 of the forced cam 33.
In addition, the point of articulation 48 of the two links 41 and 42 to each other is connected by a connecting rod 49 and an articulation 53 to a lever 50 for controlling the amplitude and the forward and reverse movements. retraction of the claw 34 of the transporter.
This lever 50 is articulated along an axis 51 to the frame of the machine. A tension spring 52 connects the hinge pin 48 to the upper end of the pin 39.
This device for adjusting the movements of the conveyor using the play of links 41 and 42 is well known and will not be described in more detail here, since it was the subject of a prior patent of the holder.
Fig. 2 shows that the cam 33 has a symmetrical profile intended to control two reciprocating movements of the conveyor for a complete revolution of the plate 32. The oscillation movement drive of the shuttle 35 is effected by means of a follower finger 54 engaged in the cam 75, this finger 54 being carried by one end of a lever 55 oscillating about a vertical axis 56 of the frame of the machine.
The other end of this lever 55 carries a toothed sector 57 meshing with a pinion 58 integral with the shuttle holder 59 mounted to pivot about a vertical axis in the lower part of the frame of the machine. This shuttle carrier 59 is disposed in a support 60 having, in its lower part, a groove 61 intended for guiding an extension 62 of the support in the form of a stirrup 36 of the claw 34. This groove 61 provides practically guidance. rectilinear of the claw 34 during the oscillating movements of the lever 38 of the conveyor.
The drive pinion 58 of the shuttle carrier is also integral with a cam 63. The lower edge 64 of the extension 62 is maintained in contact with the profile 65 of this cam 63 by means of a spring 66 threaded around the axis. 37 and tending to push the support 36 down. The purpose of this cam 63 is therefore to transmit to the claw 34 its lifting movements.
It is therefore the same pinion 58 which causes, on the one hand, the drive of the hook 67 of the shuttle carrier and, on the other hand, the drive of the cam 63 intended for the control of the shuttle. elevation movement of the claw 34 of the conveyor.
The mechanism shown in fig. 1 again shows a cloth press bar 68 of conventional construction and slidably mounted in bearings 69 of the frame of the machine. A wheel 70, integral with a cam 71, allows the pressure to be adjusted on the fabric press bar 68 by acting on a pusher 72 which comes to rest against the upper end of a coil spring 73.
This coil spring 73 is threaded around the fabric press bar 68 and bears, by its other end, against a flange 74 fixed to the fabric press bar 68.
The foregoing description shows the great simplification brought to the transmission members between the main shaft 1 and the lower part of the mechanism of the sewing machine, due to the fact that a single vertical shaft 13 itself constituting the drive shaft triangular cam 12 is used for this purpose.
Many variants of execution of this sewing machine could be imagined. In particular, the cam 63 for controlling the lifting movements of the claw 34, instead of being driven from the pinion 58, could also be formed on the plate 32.
In this case, this cam 63 would be bell-shaped and would have a profile controlling two movements of raising and lowering of the claw 34 during a single revolution of the plate 32. Of course, an additional lever oscillating about an axis horizontal should be arranged between this cam-bell and the support 36 to transmit to the latter its lifting movements.
