Referring more particularly to FIGS. 1 and 13, it can be seen that these figures together represent a flat-table sewing machine frame comprising a base 30, a vertical one 31 mounted at one end of the base and pointing upwards, and a door arm. - cantilever 32, directed horizontally, parallel to the base and terminating. by a head 33 of the machine. The vertical upright, cantilever arm and machine head are one piece, of hollow construction, and removably attachable to the plinth by a series of screws 34.
The vertical upright comprises, at its upper end, a removable cover 35 which allows easy access to the interior of the unit. The machine head also has a removable cover plate 36. A collector-shaped rim 37 is integral with the vertical post and extends inside this post. Above and at a certain distance from this collector 37, a tab 38 directed downwards forms with the cover 35 a compartment 40. A partition 41, transverse to the inside of the cantilever arm, is arranged. at its point of connection with the machine head.
The base 30 is also hollow (Figs. La and 7) and has a bottom wall 42, a front wall 43, a rear wall 44, two end walls 45 and 46 and a wall 47 between the end walls.
The portion of the base between the walls 46 and 47 constitutes a compartment 48 housing a control pulley and open at its upper and lower ends (Fig. 10a). The portion of the base delimited in part by the walls 43, 44, 45 and 47 constitutes a hollow compartment 49 which contains a supply of lubricant such as an oil 50, and several devices described in detail below.
The pedestal supports a work table 57 which has a removable cover plate 52, flush with it, and allowing easy access to the stitch forming mechanisms and the elements accompanying them and located below them. A fixed locking plate 53 (Fig. 3) is fixed to the lower surface of the neck plate 52 by a series of screws 54 and a locking plate 55 pierced with windows 56 and slidable on the lower surface of the plate. cover 52 is fixed to the latter by means of screws 57 which pass through the corresponding windows. The locking plate 55 is pierced with a circular hole for passage of a finger 58, accessible through a window 59 of the cover plate 52,
so as to be able to move the blocking plate relative to the cover plate by means of the windows 56 and the screws 57 in. It is easy to bring the locking plate 55 into contact or out of contact with the worktable 51. If desired, the locking plate 55 can be spring-loaded into the position of FIG. 3.
A rotary control shaft 60, arranged in the base, is made up of coaxial shaft portions 61 and 62, in end contact, at 63 (fig. 7) and coupled together by a coupling sleeve 64 and set screw 65. The shaft 60 is journalled in a series of bearing sleeves comprising a sleeve 66 carried by the end wall 46 of the base, a sleeve 67 carried by the intermediate wall 47 of the base, a sleeve 68 carried by the base. end wall 45 of the base and a sleeve 69 carried by a tab 70, in one piece with the lower wall 42 of the base and directed upwards. A flywheel and a combined pulley 71 are fixed to one end of the shaft 60. A control pulley 72, arranged in the compartment 48, has the same axis as the shaft 60 and is fixed there by a tightening screw 73.
A driven shaft 75 passes through the cantilever arm 32 (Fig. 1) and is parallel to the drive shaft 60. The shaft 75 spins in a bearing sleeve 76 carried by the tab 38 and in a bearing sleeve 77 carried by the partition 41. A controlled pulley 78 is fixed on the end portion of the shaft 75 which penetrates the vertical upright 31.
Pulley 78 sits directly above pulley 72 with which it is coupled by a belt 80 of an oil resistant material, such as synthetic rubber, in which are coated a series of continuous bands of wire. stranded reinforcement 81. A crank 82, disposed in the head of the machine, is fixed to the other end of the shaft 75 (FIG. 1) and rotates with this shaft. The crank 82 is coupled, by devices comprising an articulated connecting rod 83, with a needle bar 84 driven in a reciprocating movement in the vertical direction.
The foregoing elements are arranged so that the rotational movement of the shaft 60 similarly rotates the shaft 75, through the pulleys 72 and 78, and reciprocates the needle bar 84. A needle 85 is removably attached to the lower end of the needle bar and cooperates with devices contained in the base for the formation of stitches in a work. These devices are described in detail below. A thread tensioning and unguiding device 86 is mounted on the front surface of the vertical post (Fig. 4).
The tension exerted on the wire by the device 86 can be relieved by a mechanism comprising a connecting rod 87 articulated on a level 88 fixed on one end of an oscillating shaft 89 which passes through the vertical post.
A presser foot bar 90, reciprocated in the vertical direction, is mounted in the machine head 33, parallel to and next to the needle bar 84. A presser foot 91 is articulated on the end. lower bar of the presser foot. The presser foot bar, and hence the presser foot, are pushed normally downwards (fig. 4) by a compression spring 92 which is applied at its opposite ends against an adjusting screw 93 which can be maneuvered. #worked from the outside of the machine head, and against a collar 94 fixed on the presser foot bar.
The presser foot bar can be lifted against the action of the spring 92 and, at the same time, the shaft 89 can receive an oscillating movement by a series of devices described below, with in particular particularly fig. 1, 4, 5 and 10 in support. This series of devices consists of an oscillating shaft 95 arranged in the cantilever arm and parallel to the controlled shaft 75 (fig. 1). The shaft 95 is supported at one end by a tab 96 (fig. 4), directed inside the head of the machine, and at its other end by the tab 38.
A control lever 97 passes through a window 98 formed in the rear part of the vertical upright (fig. 10) and is fixed to the oscillating shaft 95 by a tightening screw 99. An arm 100 is fixed by a tightening screw 101 on the end of the oscil lant 95 shaft inside the machine head. A connecting rod 102 is articulated at its upper end on the arm 100 by a screw 104 and at its lower end by a screw 105 on a sleeve 103 which can slide along the bar of the presser foot 90. Another connecting rod 106 is articulated on the lever 97 by a screw 107 and on an arm 108 by a screw 109.
The arm 108 surrounds the posterior end of the oscillating shaft 89 and is fixed thereto by a tightening screw 110 (FIG. 10).
In view of the description of the operation of the devices described above, it will be assumed that the elements occupy the relative positions of FIG. 4. When the operator wishes to lift the presser foot 91 and, at the same time, remove the tension exerted by the device 86 on the thread entering the machine, he turns the lever 97 counterclockwise. 'a watch. This movement has the effect of rotating in the opposite direction to that of. clockwise the swing shaft 95 and arm 100 and lift the connecting rod 102 and the sleeve 103, thereby lifting the collar 94 and the presser foot bar 90 against the action of the spring 92.
At the same time, the connecting rod 106 of the ash by consequently rotating the arm 108 and the oscillating shaft 89 which, in turn, actuates the crank 88 and the connecting rod 87 so as to stop the tension exerted by the device 86 on the wire entering the machine.
A complementary stitch forming member in the form of an oscillating looper 111 is arranged below the work table. The looper is mounted on the upper end of a looper support 112 (Figs. 1a and 13) articulated by a pin 113 on a rocker 114 mounted in the base of the machine. The looper 111 cooperates with the needle 85 in the formation of double knotted stitches and receives gripping and rejection movements of the loops and avoidance movements of the needle during normal machine operation.
To impart to the looper the gripping and rejection movements of the loops, the looper support 1.12 comprises a ball-joint rod 115 projecting on it and cooperating with a yoke integral with one end of a coupling rod 117. L ' the other end of the connecting rod 117 carries a similar yoke 118 cooperating with a ball-joint rod 119 integral with the upper end of an arm 120. The arm 120 is fixed to an oscillating shaft 121 journalling in the bearing surfaces 122 and 123 (fig. 22) and receiving. oscillating movements by devices shown in particular in FIG. 9. These devices include.
an arm 124 fixed on the oscillating shaft 121 by a tightening screw 125 and which carries at its outer end a ball-joint rod 126 which is housed in a yoke 127 integral with the lower end of a coupling rod 128 This connecting rod comprises an eccentric collar 1.29 which cooperates with a spherical eccentric 130 fixed on the control shaft 60.
An eccentric 131, fixed to the shaft 60 (fig. 13 and 14), is surrounded by an eccentric collar 132 joined to an arm 133 which constitutes an extension of the rocker 114. The rocker comprises a shaft 134 pivoting in it. the base of the machine frame. It is easy to see that the eccentric 130 is serving. to print to the looper, by means of the coupling elements described above, the movements of gripping and rejection of the loops, while the eccentric 131 serves to impart to it the movements away from the needle.
The thread tensioning and guiding device 86 feeds the thread (not shown) to the looper 111. A thread raising mechanism 135 (Fig. 1a, 7, 18 and 19) acts on the thread. Certain elements of the mechanism 135 are shown in more detail in FIGS. 20, 21, 24 and 25 .. This mechanism includes an arm 136 fixed by screws 137 on a tab 138 directed upwards from the lower wall of the base (fig.1a)
. The arm 136 is pierced with an elongated window 139 and carries two wire guides 140 on each side of the window. A rotary lifting device 141 (fig. 19, 24 and 25) comprises a hub 142 fixed to the drive shaft 60 by clamping screws 143 and two parallel wire guide plates 144, separated by a gap 145 (fig. . 25) and coming in front of the window 139. An element 146 mounted on the arm ends in a cleat. angled take-up 147 which enters the gap 145 between the thread guide plates 144 while the machine is in operation.
A mechanism for advancing the work is placed in the base of the machine. This mechanism (Figs. 4, 7 and 13) comprises an oscillating shaft 148 journalling in bearings 149 and 150 directed upwards from the interior wall of the base. An oscillating arm 151 directed upwards is clamped on the shaft 148 (FIG. 13) and is articulated at its upper end by a pin 152 on a horizontal advancement bar 153. An arm 154 of curved shape, directed towards the front. low and in one piece with the advancement bar 153, is articulated by a pin 155 on the lower end of the eccentric collar 132.
A drive claw 7.56 is adjustably mounted on the end of the advancement bar opposite to the oscillation axis 152. These coupling elements actuate the advancement bar, so as to raise and lower feed dog 156. The feed movements and @. return are printed to the feed dog by an adjustable eccentric 157 which cooperates with a collar 158 (Fig. 4). This necklace is. articulated by a pin 159 on one end of an arm 160, the other end of which is fixed on the oscillating shaft 148.
It is evident that the adjustable eccentric 157 causes the oscillating arm 151 to oscillate via the coupling elements described above about the axis of the shaft 148 and thus imparts to the advancing bar and forward and backward movements at the feed dog.
Figs. 6 and 8 show multiple needle and multiple looper devices, respectively, which can replace the single needle and looper device described above, when it is desired to form relatively closely spaced stitch lines in a single operation. one from the other. To this end, the lower end of the needle bar 84 comprises a transverse head 162 which accommodates and retains two needles 85. Each of these needles cooperates with one of the two loopers 163 which are mounted on the upper end of the support 112. looper and are fixed to it in an adjustable manner by screws 164.
As has already been said, the compartment 49 of the base of the machine contains a supply of a lubricant such as lubricating oil 50. This oil serves to thoroughly and automatically lubricate the various bearing surfaces of the controlled parts of the machine. The operator can easily determine the level of the lubricant by observing it by means of a gauge for the level of the liquid, constituted by a rod 165 of polymerized methyl methacrylate.
A device described below, in particular with FIGS. 1, 1a, 7, 1.0, 11 and 22 at the support, feeds the lubricating oil to the various elements liable to wear, contained in the cantilever arm 32 and the head 33 of the the machine. This device comprises a pipe 166 which passes through a flange 167 directed inwardly and supporting it, in one piece with the vertical upright 31 and the collector 37 described above. This pipe passes through a socket 168 screwed into the rim 167 and is. clamped against the upper end of the socket by a coupling element 169.
The pipe also passes through a socket 170 of oil-resistant synthetic rubber, placed in the rim 37 (fig. 10). A flange 171, carried by the pipe, forms a tight seal ati passage of the fluid with the sleeve 170. The upper end 172 of the pipe has a curved shape and enters the compartment 40, and the curved lower end 173 of the pipe. , is -disposée in the compartment 49 next to the intermediate wall 47.
An arm 174 fixed to the intermediate wall 47 by a screw 175 (fig. 23) is fixed to the part 173 of the pipe by welding or in any other known manner. This arm prevents vibrations of the lower part of the pipe while the machine is running: The curved part 173 of the pipe is cut out by a window 176 (fig. 11).
An oil projection disc 178 comprising a hub 179 is fixed coaxially on the drive shaft 60 by a tightening screw 180. The lower portion of the disc 178 (fig. La and 10) and the lower end of the pipe 166 enter. in the mass of the lubricant 50. Likewise, a portion of the edge of the disc is in front of the curved window 176. As the drive shaft 60 and the disc 178 rotate, the disc drags the oil there and makes it. go up in the pipe 166 where it exits in the compartment 40.
The oil passing through the pipe is in the form of a relatively fine rain or column of oil depending on the dimensions of the disc 178, the rotational speed of the drive shaft 60, the diameter of the pipe 166, etc. The oil which arrives in compartment 40 is deposited on a packet of wick 181. The excess oil falls by its own weight into the collector 37 from where it returns through a pipe 132 in the compartment 49.
Wick pack 181 flows oil into wick 183 to lubricate the contact surfaces. of the driven shaft 75 and of the bearing sleeve 76 (fig. 10). A pipe 184, supported by the tab 38 and the partition 41, feeds through a packet of wick which it contains the oil from compartment 40 in a wick 185 so as to lubricate the shaft 75 in its bearing sleeve. 77. A downwardly curved extension 186 is attached to the end of pipe 184 (Fig. 1) and contains a wick which directs oil into the wear-prone elements contained in the machine head.
A pad of felt or the like 187, disposed in the lower part of the machine head, serves to absorb and retain the lubricating oil which may settle there. Of course, this pad can be periodically removed and replaced with a pad containing relatively no oil, as needed.
In a variant, the amount of oil arriving on the bearing surfaces of the cantilever arm and the machine head is increased due to the presence of an oil projection disc 188 of the shape shown in fig. 26. This disc is circular, like the disc 178, but has a series of peripheral notches or notches 189. It has been observed that the oil projection discs of the type of FIG. 26 project a greater amount of oil upwardly into pipe 166 than disc 178, under comparable construction and operating conditions.
Fig. 2 represents a variant of the key point junction between the upright. vertical and the cantilever arm. The shape of the cantilever arm and of the cover plate 35 is chosen so as to form a partition 190 which delimits an annular compartment 191, completely closed and not communicating with the interior of the vertical post. This construction effectively prevents oil entering the cantilever arm wick from coming into contact with the moving elements disposed in the vertical post or in the compartment 48 of the plinth.
The machine further comprises a means for lubricating the elements liable to wear disposed in the base. For this purpose, as seen in fig. 7, a channel 192 formed in the rear wall 44 of the base communicates with a transverse channel 193 formed in the end wall. 46- of the base and in the bearing sleeve 66. The wick 194, which plunges into the mass of lubricant (fig. La), makes the oil arrive on the shaft 60 and the bearing sleeve 66 through the channels 192 and 193. The bearing sleeve 67 is suitably lubricated by the oil mist formed by the disc 178.
Another wick 195 (fig. 22) is immersed in the quantity of lubricant and is supported by a pipe 196 which passes through a wall of the base and brings oil to the ball rod 119. The bottom wall 42 of the base comprises at least one channel 200 (Fig. 12 and 13) which communicates with the lower part of the compartment 49. This channel is closed at its outer end by a threaded plug 201 (Fig. 4). The lower wall of the base also comprises a blind transverse channel 202 communicating with the channel 200 and closed at its outer end by a threaded plug 203.
This channel communicates with a vertical channel 204 closed by a lower plug 205 (FIG. 12). A wick 206, supported by a coil spring 207, sends the oil from the channel 202 on one of the bearing surfaces which support the shaft 148, and a similar device (not shown), comprising a wick and a vertical channel, makes get the lubricating oil on the other door of this shaft. Another vertical channel 208, which communicates with the transverse channel 202.
is joined by connection 209 to a channel 210 which contains a wick 211 making the lu brifiant arrive on certain elements liable to wear out, arranged in the portion of the left side of the base (FIG. 7). A connector 212, communicating with a channel 213, which for its part communicates with the transverse channel 202, contains a wick 215 bringing the lubricant to the bearing sleeve 68.
It can be seen in fig. 11, several pipes 216, 217 and 218, containing wicks which bring the lubricant to other elements liable to wear out of the machine, arranged in the portion on the left side of the base. These pipes communicate with channels (not shown) formed in the base and communicating with the oil supply of compartment 49. Other pipes containing wicks (not shown) - bring the lubricant to other parts of the machine susceptible to wear and located below the worktable, so that all of these can be properly lubricated.
The excess oil which arrives on the bearing surfaces of the left side of the end wall 45 of the plinth (Fig. 7) drips by its own weight into a reservoir 220 formed in the inner wall 42 of the plinth ( fig. 12 and 15). This reservoir communicates with a cavity or channel. 221 delimited in part by a removable lower cover 222 which forms a tight seal with the lower wall of the base by means of a gasket 223. The excess oil arriving in the reservoir 220 passes through. through a filter device 224, then enters the cavity 221. The filter device comprises a filter pad 225, a screen 226 disposed on the upper part of the pad and a retaining ring 227.
A suction pump 230 (fig. 1 and 15) returns the oil from channel 221 to compartment 49. This pump comprises a vertical cylinder 231 arranged in a hollow boss 232 in one piece. with the lower wall of the base: - The cylinder communicates at its lower end with the channel 221 and extends above the normal level of the lubricant 50 of the compartment 49. A rotor 233, which has a helical peripheral groove 234 and a blind hole 235, is disposed in the cylinder 231.
A compression spring 236, housed in - the hole 235, is applied against the rotor and against a ball 237, so as to normally and elastically push the rotor upwards. A disc 238 is attached to the upper end of the rotor. A collar 239, fixed to the drive shaft 60 by a clamping screw 240, has a flange. 241 which rests against the edge of the upper surface of the disc 238. The suction pump and the rim 241 are arranged so that, during the rotational movement of the drive shaft 60, the rim 241 co-operates by friction with the disk 238, thereby rotating rotor 233 accordingly.
The oil is thus transmitted from channel 221 to compartment 249.
Fig. 16 shows a variant in which a suction pump of the type of FIG. 15 is controlled mechanically and not by friction. The suction pump of fig.16 is designated by 243 and comprises, as can be seen, a bevel wheel 244 which is fixed to the upper end of the rotor 233 by a tightening screw 245. This wheel meshes with a second bevel wheel 246 which is fixed to the drive shaft 60 by a tightening screw 247.
It is evident from fig. 16, that as the drive shaft 60 rotates, bevel gear 246 rotates bevel gear 244 so as to rotate rotor 233 and pass oil from channel 221 into compartment 49.
