<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

NEEDLE THREADED APPARATUS
The invention relates to an apparatus for threading a needle comprising a frame and means for introducing and immobilizing in this frame a needle and the thread which is to pass through the eye thereof,
Various utensils are known for threading needles, but none of them achieves complete automaticity. The object of the invention is to remedy this drawback.
To this end, the apparatus comprises means for bringing the eye of the needle to face a hook which can pass through it to hook the thread disposed on the other side of the needle, with respect to the aforementioned hook, when that - this is in its resting position
According to an advantageous embodiment, the aforesaid means are constituted by a member which can be driven by an up and down movement communicated by a lever and a return spring, this member comprising a head on which 1- 'can rest. needle by its threading end, said needle being placed coaxially with the straight line along which the organ moves,
while a kinematic connection is provided between the aforementioned lever and a swinging arm carrying the aforementioned hook
A detail of the invention resides in the fact that the head of the organ supporting the needle has a groove making it possible to guide, towards the eye of the needle, the hook intended to pass through it.
According to this embodiment, the aforementioned hook is applied to the groove made in the head of the member, by means of a spring, one end of which is connected to the lever controlling the movement of said member.
Another embodiment resides in the fact that the aforesaid means consist of at least one member carrying a hook driven by a reciprocating movement in a substantially horizontal plane; the threading needle rests, by its part having the eye, in a cavity formed in a support of the frame.
Other details and advantages of the invention will emerge from the description of an apparatus for threading a needle.

given only by way of example, moreover in no way limiting and refers to the accompanying drawings.
Fig..1 is a sectional view of the device, the members being in the rest position.
Fig. 2 is a similar view in which the control lever is lowered.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of a variant of the apparatus according to the invention.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the same variant., The button 16 being depressed.
Figs. 5 to 7 show some details of the device.
In these figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.
The apparatus for threading a needle, represented by these figures comprises a frame 1 integral with a support 2. The needle 3 is introduced into the apparatus) approximately vertically; a cylindrical opening 4, intended to guide the needle, ends in front of the head 5 of the member 6. This member can be driven by a movement of up and down from the button 7 controlling the lever 8. The member 6 is returned to the rest position by the spring 9. A second lever 10 carrying an oscillating head 11 to which the hook 12 is fixed is also connected to the lever 8 by a spring 13.
By pressing the button 7, the lever 8 is pivoted around point 14, which causes the member 6 to lower, the latter being integral with the lever 8. At the same time as the lever 8 is lowered, the lever 10 and the head 11 which is integral with it move downwards and towards the axis of the organ 6. To correctly guide the hook 12, a slot has been made in the head 5 of the organ and this along a plane comprising the member itself and the lever 10.
The operation of the apparatus is very simple and can be described in a few lines as follows: By inserting the needle 3 through the cylindrical opening 4, the part of the needle comprising the eye being directed downwards , it comes to rest on the head 5 and in the slot made at this location.
As the part of the needle having the eye is slightly flattened in a plane normal to the direction in which it is threaded, the point of the hook 12 engaging the wall of the needle, it is will produce under the pressure of this hook a rotation of the needle which must inevitably bring the hook facing the eye which it must pass. It is to effectively achieve this movement that the spring 13 has been provided and that the head II carrying the hook can oscillate in the plane formed by the lever 10 and the member 6. Thanks to this arrangement, the needle can be placed. 3 in any way; the hook 12 will always be brought facing the eye of the needle and will pass through the latter very easily.
At this point, the sewing thread is introduced into the slot 15, as low as possible in this slot, ie approximately against the member 6 and substantially at right angles to the latter; the hook will grip the thread in the slot 15, while during the upward movement of the member 6, i.e. when button 7 is released, the hook will bring back a thread eyelet which can be removed with the needle from the machine if the thread is not immediately cut in front of slot 15. If, on the contrary, this thread is cut, the free end of the thread thus obtained will pass the eye of the needle when the user withdraws the needle through the cylindrical slot 4.
The variant shown in Figures 3 and 4 comprises a similar frame 1 mounted on a support 2. The needles 20 and 21 penetrate vertically through the orifices 22 and 23 and rest on the supports 24 and 25. The hooks 26 and 27 of different dimensions are mounted on a member 28 which can move in a common horizontal plane and has a button 29 on the outside. This member can be returned to the position shown in Figure 3 by the spring 30. Two slots 31 and 32 allow the introduction

wire in 1-apparatus, the operation of which does not differ from that which has just been described above.
As has just been seen, the threading apparatus according to the invention therefore makes it possible to thread double or quadruple depending on whether or not the thread is immediately cut in front of the slit. the invention, which has not been shown in the accompanying figures ,, consists in providing a secateur device in front of the slot 15; such a device is obviously known per se.
It is understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiment described above and that many modifications can be made thereto, in particular as regards the shape, the number, the arrangement and the the constitution of the elements involved in its production, without departing from the scope of the present patent application.
