A method of assembling tubes by welding on a thick-walled container. The present invention relates to thick-walled containers intended to withstand high pressures and it relates to a method of assembling tubes by welding on these containers.
The method according to the invention is charac terized in that an annular centering projection is formed on each tube, in that this projection is placed in an opening of the receptacle and in that the welding is carried out by the addition of metal in a groove formed between the pipe and the container to be assembled and having this projection as its base.
The description which follows relates to examples of application of the method according to the invention, application made to containers of small diameter and of large diameter, to which pipes are assembled.
This description is given with reference to the accompanying drawing.

Fig. 5 is a view of a variant of FIG. 3 showing the installation of a connection pipe to be welded. Fig. 6 is a corresponding view after welding and joining of a tube to the connection pipe.
Fig. 7 shows a tubing welded into the thick wall of a large diameter container in partial section in the region of the weld.
Figs. 8 and 9 show two variant embodiments of FIG. 7.
In the example chosen and shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, it is a matter of fixing on a thick-walled collector 10, which has a small diameter, the tubes 11 of a bundle and short tubes 12 with cap 13 closing the inspection openings of the collector arranged at a certain angular separation of the tubes and in a transverse plane between two tubes.
According to fig. 3 and 4, two phases of the .mise establishment of the cap tubes 12 have been shown. Each tube 12 has, preferably, an outer wall of cross section that crosses towards the manifold and a bore that is slightly smaller than the hole 14 on which this tube is to be fixed. The ends of the outer surface have two chamfers at 45, 15 and 16 which will form the sides of the weld grooves for the connection to the manifold and the bonnet. The chamfer 15, at the end which will be welded to the manifold forms an annular projection 17, the outside diameter of which corresponds to the diameter of the hole 14.
At the other end of the connection pipe, a small internal chamfer 18, at an angle of approximately 10, serves, as will be terra, for centering the part which will be welded to the end of the connection pipe.
The pipe 12 is placed on the manifold by engaging the annular projection 17 for centering inside the hole 14. This projection thus blocks the groove formed between the chamfer 15 and the wall of the manifold 10. It is deposited in this grooves the filler metal used to weld the connection pipe to the manifold. This operation being done, the projection 17 which would form a projection in the outlet ch hole is removed by a bore of the pipe (fig. 4).
The part welded to the end of the connection tutu- read 12 is in the case of this! figure the cap 13 closing this inspection tube.
The part. to be connected with the cap 13 also has an external chamfer at 45, 19, to limit the weld groove and an internal chamfer 20 at an angle of 10, for centering by a connecting pen 21.
This ring, thin and with a corresponding oblique surface, is placed between the seats formed by the chamfers at 10 'from the connection pipe and the cha skin. -It has an inside diameter equal to that of the reamed tubing and plugs the bottom of the groove; it therefore makes it possible to weld the two parts and is welded with them.
Following the example shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, for the connection of the tubes 11 of the bundle, the connection pipe 22 has on the collector side a constricted part 23 forming an annular centering projection inside the hole 24. This constricted part closes 1a Welding groove of the pipe on the manifold: The welding is carried out in the same way and a subsequent reaming removes the necked part.
The junction of the tube to the connection pipe is made in the same way as that of the caps 13 by means of a connection ring sitting on the seats formed by two internal brakes changers at 100 of the ends' to be connected. The inspection holes closed by the caps can be released by cutting at the level of the weld of the caps and, after inspection, the caps are welded in place again after machining preparing the surfaces as indicated above.
In the application example shown in FIGS. 7-9 For assembly to a large diameter thick walled container 25 of tubing such as 26, the side of the hole in the container is machined at two opposing small angle cones 27 and 28 inward and outward. 'outside from a neck 29 if killed substantially at mid-thickness. The tube 26 to be mounted is provided on its outer surface with a ring forming an annular projection for centering the tube at the height of said collar. Un: Small clearance is provided between the collar and said protrusion.
Depending on the application examples shown, this annular protrusion may be a ring 30 fitted to the tube and held by chamfered welds 31 (FIG. 7) or else a bead 32 consisting of a weld supply forming a protrusion. annular with a wide base and a shallow edge at the edge of the collar 29 (FIG. 8) or else a ring 33 possibly in several parts, embedded in a groove 34 made in the tube.
The annular projection thus formed serves to center the tube in the aperture of the receptacle while being at the height of the collar 29 and it also constitutes the bottom of the weld grooves 35 and 36 thus formed between the conical walls of the hole towards the interior and outward and the tube wall. Welding metal is brought in from both inside and outside to fill these grooves.
