Es wurde nun gefunden, dass das. Halo genatom in den 4-Halogenmethyl-naphtsul- tonen reaktionsfähig ist und mannigfache Umsetzungen erlaubt. So kann es leicht durch Wasserstoff, durch die Hydroxyl-oder die sub stituierte Hydroxylgruppe, durch die Amine- oder substituierte Aminogruppen ersetzt wer den;
Process for the preparation of a reaction product of 4-halomethyl-1,8-naphtsultone. In Swiss Patent No. 251640 a process for the production of 4-halomethyl-1,8-naphthosultone is described.
It has now been found that the halogen atom in the 4-halomethyl-naphthosultones is reactive and allows a variety of reactions. So it can easily be replaced by hydrogen, by the hydroxyl or the substituted hydroxyl group, by the amine or substituted amino groups;
by reacting with sulfinic acid salts, sulfones are formed; by reacting with. aromatic compounds according to Friedel-Crafts again differently substituted compounds. These reaction products go over as naphthosultone derivatives when boiling with dilute alkalis or ammonia into the salts of correspondingly substituted 1-oxynaphthalene-8-sulfonic acids.
The reaction products of 4-halomethyl-naphthsultones are valuable intermediates for the manufacture of dyes.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the preparation of a reaction product of 4-halomethyl-1,8-naphthosultone, characterized in that the halogen atom of 4-halomethyl-1,8-naphthosultone is treated with a reducing agent by hydrogen replaced, the sulton saponified in an alkaline medium and acidified to release the new 4-methyl-l-oxynaphtha.lin-8-sulfonic acid. Their alkali salts are crystalline.
It should serve as an intermediate product for the manufacture of dyes.
Example: 51 parts of 4-chloromethyl-1,8-naphisultone are heated to 65 in 200 parts of ethyl alcohol to which 50 parts of concentrated hydrochloric acid have been added. 40 parts of zinc dust are sprinkled in with thorough stirring. The mixture comes to a boil. The mixture is stirred for a further 2 hours at the boiling point under reflux, cooled to 5, filtered and the residue extracted with. Chloroform.
The chloroform solution is concentrated until crystallization begins and then 100 parts of methanol are added. The white crystalline mass is filtered and net getrock. This gives 37 parts of 4-methyl-1,8-naphtsultone with a melting point of 162, corresponding to a yield of 84% of theory.
220 parts of 4-methyl-1,8-naphtsultone are stirred into 1500 parts of water and, after addition of 206 parts by volume of 10N sodium hydroxide solution, heated to boiling for 1/2 hour. A pale green solution is formed, which is filtered from a small residue while still hot, neutralized with 6 parts of concentrated hydrochloric acid and then mixed with 180 parts of common salt.
The sodium salt of 4-methyl-1-oxy-naphthalene-8-sulfanic acid precipitates in the form of a thick white paste. Filter and dry. The yield is quantitative. By acidification with concentrated. Hydrochloric acid releases 4-methyl-1-oxy-naphthalene-8-sulfonic acid.
