Process for the production of a condensation product. The present patent is a process for the production of a condensation product. The process is characterized in that a mixture of dimethyl dioxy - diphenyl sulfone, represented by the reaction of raw cresol monosulphonic acid, as it is formed during the sulphonation of raw cresol, with the equimolecular amount of raw cresol at a higher temperature,
and dimethyl-dioxy-diphenylsulfone-sulfonic acid, the latter obtainable by sulfating the above-mentioned sulfone with a sulfonating agent at about 125, condensed in an alkaline medium with formaldehyde.
The resulting solution of the condensation product adjusts to. Acidification with an organic acid is a ready-to-use tanning solution with which full and white leather with excellent lightfastness can be produced.
Example 1: 110 parts by weight of a mixture of isomeric dimethyl-dioxy-diphenylsulphones, prepared by reacting raw cresol monosulphonic acid, obtainable by sulphonating raw cresol, with the equimolecular amount of raw cresol at 120-150 ,
and 40 parts by weight of sulfuric acid monohydrate are heated to 125-130 and kept at this temperature for 4 hours while a stream of dry air is passed through. The cooled and diluted reaction mass is mixed with 13 parts by weight of calcium hydroxide in the form of lime slurry - and 75 parts by weight of 30% caustic soda ge alkaline, mixed with 25 parts by weight of 30% formaldehyde and heated for 16 hours.
The finished condensation product is neutralized with sulfuric acid, erbfiltered from the excreted gypsum and weakly acidified with formic acid. Example 2: 110 parts by weight of the sulfone from crude cresol described in Example 1 are melted, 47 parts by weight of chlorosulfonic acid are added at 120-125 within one hour and the mixture is stirred at the same temperature for a further 2 hours.
The sulfonation mass is cooled, after thinning, 120 parts by weight of sodium hydroxide solution, 30% and 28 parts by weight of 30% formaldehyde are added and the mixture is condensed for 22 hours at 70-80. It is then neutralized with sulfuric acid and acidified with an organic acid.
Example 3: 110 parts by weight of raw cresol sulfone are sulfonated with 160 parts by weight of sulfuric acid monohydrate, as described in Example 1.
203 parts by weight of this sulphonation mixture are stirred homogeneously with 25 parts by weight of crude cresol sulphone, made alkaline after dilution with water and refluxed with 28 parts by weight of formaldehyde for 12 hours. A ready-to-use tanning agent is obtained by neutralization with sulfuric acid and acidification with formic acid.
135 parts by weight of the sulfonation mixture described above can also be condensed with 50 parts by weight of raw cresol sulfone and 28 parts by weight of formaldehyde.
