Light projection device. The present invention relates to a luminous projection apparatus with controlled change of view (mechanically, pneumatically or electrically, possibly remotely), which -is characterized in that it comprises means for receiving a rectilinear magazine containing a certain number (30- for example) of clichés (we mean here by this term either plates, or films arranged in a frame or between two assembled glass plates) arranged parallel one after the other, means to advance step by step this store, means extracting, at each station of the store, a cliché of the store and bringing it into the projection position,
and means for returning this. cliché to its original position, in the store, before the latter takes a step forward, the whole being arranged so that immediately after the projection, the clichés are all found in place in the store, in the original order.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the light projection apparatus forming the subject of the invention: FIG. 1 is a side elevational view thereof, its bell-shaped cover being assumed to be cut.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a detail, and FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view corresponding to FIG. 2.
Fig. 4 is a side elevational view of the side opposite to that in which FIG. 1, the bell-shaped cover being assumed to be removed.
Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view along V-V of FIG. 4.
Fig. 6 is a cross-sectional view along VI-VI of FIG. 5.
The apparatus shown comprises a rectangular base 1, forming its base and having four columns 2; used to support two plates 3 ,, 4 parallel to the base 1.
A removable cover 5, bell-shaped, can come to rest on the base 1 so as to enclose all the members carried by the base 1 and the plates 3. and 4, as seen in FIG. 1.
The base 1 carries an electric motor 6 driving a propeller 7 forming a fan, and a screw 8 serving to drive at reduced speed a camshaft 9, itself supported by two bearings 10, also fixed on the base 1 (fig. 1 and 6). On this base are also fixed an electromagnet 11 and an electromagnet 12 (fig. 1 and 4) serving, the first, to produce the clutch, and the second, the disengagement of the shaft 9 carrying the cams. .
The plate 3 carries, fixed on it, guides 131 between which can slide longitudinally a rectilinear magazine 14 containing a certain number (3'0 for example) of .clichés arranged parallel to one another. By clichés, it is necessary to stretch either plates or films arranged in a frame or between: two assembled plates. The magazine 14 can be introduced in the apparatus or taken out thereof, without it being necessary to remove the cover 5, thanks to an opening 5 ,, which the latter has on its front face.
This plate S also carries other components and various bearings which will be indicated in detail below.
The plate 4 carries a slide frame 1 to , in which the cliché to be projected is placed. This plate 4 also carries an optical system 16 ,, a lamp 17 and a transformer 18.
On the shaft 9 is freely mounted a sleeve 19- integral with a helical wheel 20 cooperating with the screw 8. The sleeve 19 carries a field toothing provided to cooperate with a similar toothing of a chon 21 slidably mounted. on the shaft 9, but angularly integral with the latter. The sleeve 21 is controlled so that its teeth are either in engagement with those of the sleeve 19-, or out of engagement therewith. It can therefore be seen that the teeth of the sleeves 19 and 21 constitute a clutch making it possible to transmit the movement of the helical wheel 20 to the shaft 9 when this clutch is engaged.
The shaft 9 carries, wedged on it, a cam \ ?? 2, controlling a curtain 23, the role of which is to intercept the light beam coming from the lamp 17 and used for the projection, during the replacement operations. one shot by another. This curtain obviously occupies a position allowing free passage to light rays through the optical system when a photograph is in the projection position. On the shaft 9 is also wedged a cam 24 Gom mant the extraction one by one of the images of the gasin 14, their individual supply in the projection position and their return in this gasin, -.pre projection.
The shaft 9 also carries a drum 25 with electrical contacts, the closure of which a. place for certain determined angular positions of the shaft. The role of these contacts will be explained below. The shaft 9, finally carries two cams 26, 27 serving, the first to control the step-by-step advance of the magazine 14, to ensure the projection of a cliché after the previous one has been automatically brought back into the magazine, and the second, to control a locking mechanism and feeler, used to im mobilize the magazine during the projection and to determine if there is still a cliché to be projected in the magazine, immediately after that in the projection position.
The various mechanisms controlled by the cams which have just been indicated will be described in turn.
Curtain control device 23. This device comprises a lever 28 articulated at one of its ends on a support 29 fixed to the base 1. This lever 28 carries, fixed between its two ends, a roller 3'0 constantly applied against the cam 22. LTa vertical rod 31, sliding in the guides of the plates 3, and 4, is articulated at its lower end on the lever 28, near its end opposite to that pivoting on the support 29.
The rod 31 is constantly urged upwards by a spring 32, wound around it in the space between the plates 3 and 4. It is this spring which maintains the roller 30 applied to the cam 22. A its upper end, the rod 31 carries a horizontal rod 33 fixed to it by one of its ends and the free end of which is guided by a fixed fork 3'4. The horizontal rod 33 carries the curtain 23 by means of a short lever 35.
It is easily seen that, depending on how far from the shaft 9 is the roller 3û, that is to say depending on which part of the periphery of the cam it cooperates, the curtain 2, 3 is either in the position shown in the drawing, where it intercepts the light beam intended for the objective, is lowered below this position, out of the path of this light beam.
The free end of the lever 2'8 carries a stopper 36 which strikes against a lever 37 fixed on a shaft 38 which is angularly integral with a fork 39 controlling the sleeve 21 of the clutch. At the moment when the stopper 3.6 hits the lever 37, as a result of the lowering of the curtain under the effect of the cam 22, the shaft 38 is forced to turn clockwise in FIG. 6, which causes the disengagement by separation of the sleeves 19 and 21. This disengagement takes place when the curtain 2-3 reaches its lowest position.
Device for control pictures.
This device is used to extract the pictures one by one from the magazine 14, to bring each picture thus extracted into the projection position, to then bring it back into the magazine to extract the next picture afterwards, and so on, so that it does not There is never more than one shot outside the store at a time. This device comprises a lever 40 pivoting at one of its ends on a support 41 fixed to the base 1. This lever carries, between its two ends, a roller 42 kept constantly applied to the cam 24 by a spring 43 bearing on plate 3 ,. A keel block 44 connects the lever 40 to another oscillating lever 45, pivoting at one of its ends on a support 46, carried by the plate 3.
The opposite end of the lever 45 is articulated to a connecting rod 47 acting on a horizontal bar 48 at one end of which is fixed a vertical rod 49 guided by the plates 3 and 4 and carrying at its upper end a part cubit 50 intended to act on the cliché to help it go back down into the store. The horizontal bar 48 carries, at its other end, a vertical rod 51 which acts from below on the cliché to be brought into the projection position, by lifting it and sliding it between the slides. 15.
When the roller 42 approaches the shaft 9 by following the cam 24, the rod 51 rises, under the action of the spring 43, and a cliché is brought into the projection position. When, on the contrary, the cam 24 forces the roller to move away from the shaft 9, the bent part 50! forces the cliché, slowed down behind the scenes 15, to reinstate its place in the store.
Device for the step-by-step advance of the magazine. This device comprises a lever 52 articulated, in the vicinity of one of its ends, on a support 53 @ fixed to the plate 3. This lever carries, at its other end, a roller 54 constantly applied to the cam 26, under the action of a spring 55 attached to the plate 3. The upper end of the lever 52 drives, in a forward and reverse movement. retreat, a sled 56 visible in FIGS. 4, 5 and 6. This sled carries an advance pawl 57 cooperating with a rack 58 cut on one of the lateral sides of the store. Each pitch of the rack corresponds to the distance separating two consecutive plates from magazine 14.
One turn of the cam 26 thus causes the magazine to advance by the value of one step and the return of the pawl 57 to the initial position.
Device for locking and feeler.
This device comprises a lever 59 which pivots between its two ends on a support 60 fixed to the base 1, and biased by a spring 61 bearing at 6 C on the base 1. This lever carries, to one of its ends, a roller 63, constantly applied against the cam 27 by the spring 61. At the other end of the lever 59 is articulated the lower end of a vertical rod 64 guided by the plates 3 and 4 and carrying, in its region between these two plates, a part 65 for view of an inclined part 66. forming a wedge (fib. 6).
When the part 65 is lowered, the inclined plane 66 comes to immobilize a ratchet 67, placed above the pawl 57 and also cooperating with the rack 58. The role of this ratchet 6.7 is to keep the magazine im mobile during the return movement of the pawl 57 which, without the presence of this ratchet 67, would risk bringing the machine back with it.
The rod 64 carries, at its end: <i? Front, a feeler 68 whose role is to determine whether there is, in the store, a photograph following the one which is currently in the position of projection. The operations due to control this feeler will be described later.

When the magazine 1.4 is introduced into the device, it slides freely on the slides 13 until a finger 69 (FIG. 6) engages in a small housing 70 in the wall of this magazine.
From this moment, the latter cannot advance without a-ç, -oir the tendency to go back, because this c1oi ^ -t 69, fixed to an ear 71 integral with a udder your shock absorber sliding in a tube tire 72 (Fig. 1 and 6) is pulled back by a cable 73, winding in the groove of a barrel 74 containing a return spring, not shown in the drawing.
Ordinarily, however, the magazine cannot go back, because it is held back at the moment of its advance, by the pawl 57 and, when this pawl has ceased to act, by the ratchet 67, itself held in position. position of cooperation with the rack 58, by the inclined plane. 66.
So that the store can obey, -i the sol licitation of the spring of the barrel 74, and go back, it is necessary that the pawl 57 and the rock 67 are simultaneously released from the rack. Thanks to a stop not shown in the drawing, the release of the ratchet results in that of the pawl. The release of the ma gasin, that is to say its release from the ratchet of the. rack, can occur in two ways: by hand or automatically.
Li.hératiorz says tz @ radasüa da ùaalri.
The release: of the ratchet 67 of the rack, is necessary when you want to extract the magazine from the device. It is obtained thanks to anT @ ox, following ganes: A button 75, appearing on the front face of the device (fig. 1 and 5), makes it possible to turn a 7% bar carrying a cylindrical cam 76 (fig. 1) . When turning the knob 75, the cam 76, also turning, oscillates a lever 77 about a pivot 78 (Fig. 5).
The other end of this lever 77 pushes back towards the front of the apparatus (therefore towards the right in FIG. 5), a bar 79 acting on an ear 80 secured to the ratchet 6 7 (fig. 5). . The latter, pivoting for love of an axis 81., its point comes out of the crate 58 of the store.
As the ratchet also drags the pawl :, as we have it. previously indicated, the magazine is no longer retained by these two organs. The bar 7 5, carries a longitudinal shoulder 82 (FIG. 6) which separates the finger 69 from the magazine when this bar is rotated in the direction. watch hands on the. fig. 6. The store is then totally free and Fulani. be removed from the device.

Button wire 83 ', arranged symmetrically to the button 75, with respect to the median longitudinal plane of the device (fig. 4 and 5), allows to pull out of the latter a square bar 84 which extends to the rear by a round bar 85 connected to a parallel round bar 86 by a bridge 87. The free end of the. bar 86 pushes the magazine forward (ie to the right in fig. 5).
When the button 83 is pulled, it bitt against the gasin if the latter is retained by the locked ratchet 67. In the event that the ratchet 67 is unlocked, the button 83 serves to extract the magazine from the apparatus until it can be grasped by hand; in the case where the rocket is locked, the button 83 is used to pull the graduated rule out of the apparatus by an amount which depends on the serial number of the plate which is in the projection position.
The graduation of this rule is established in such a way as to directly indicate the serial number of this photograph. This rule also allows i to bring the magazine directly into the desired position for the projection of a cliché occupying a determined place in the magazine.
Automatic release of the magazine. This automatic release, as indicated above, is intended to allow the magazine to be recalled by the spring of the barrel 74, in the case of automatic operation of the device.
The helical wheel 20 is integral with a cam 88 (FIG. 2). Once per revolution, this cam lifts an oscillating lever 89, carrying a roller 90. This lever is itself carried by a shaft 9-1 rotating in bearings 92, 93 (fig. 2 and 4). This shaft is integral with a crank 94, causing a connecting rod 9-5 to move up and down at each turn of the shaft 9. This connecting rod is articulated. To another crank 96, carried by a small shaft 97 (fig. 5). , turn ning in steps 98, 99.
The shaft 97 carries a crank 100, partially visible only in dotted lines in FIG. 4, behind stage 99 ,. To this crank is articulated a stopper 101, sliding in a loop 1012 integral with a flail 103, pivoting 104 on a support 10.5, integral with the plate 3. The stopper 101 is therefore animated, at each point. turn of the helical wheel with a horizontal back-and-forth movement. The end 106 of the stopper 101 does not, however, normally hit the ear 80 of the ratchet 67, because it passes below it.
If the feeler 68 does not encounter a plate in the groove of the magazine which immediately follows that of the projected plate, at the moment when the cam 27 allows it this movement, the head 107 of a screw fixed to the part 65 returns. against the beam 103- and causes it to oscillate around the pivot 104. The end -of left (in FIG. 5) of the beam 103, which carries a hook 108, rises by causing the loop 102- upwards. Therefore, the stopper 10-1 now directs its point 106 against the lug 80 of the ratchet 67 and, thanks to its back and forth movement, pushes the ratchet aside and, as we have seen above, with it the maga sin ratchet.
The latter can then obey the solicitation of the spring of the barrel 74 and return fully into the apparatus, in the starting position. On reaching the end of its travel, the magazine 14 encounters a stop 109 integral with a horizontal rod 110 supported by a crank 111 and which can slide a few thousand meters in a column 11.2 fixed to the plates 3 and 4. By a bent return 113-, visible in dotted lines only in fig. 4, coming to act on the end of the lug 80 of the ratchet 67, pivoting at 114 and on which the rod 110 acts, it causes the pivoting and the release of the ratchet 67 and the pawl 57, which were themselves- same immobilized in the open position. The hook 108 of the flail 103 has also been released.
The loop 102 is lowered and the stopper 10-1 is again made inactive, as it again begins to pass below the lug 80 of the ratchet 67.
Electric clutch and release . The apparatus is designed to effect the plate change by itself when the user, a lecturer for example, closes an electrical circuit by acting on a switch not shown, which can be very distant from the apparatus.
The clutch electromagnet 11 (fig. 1), when it is excited by the closing of the circuit in question, acts on an armature, not shown, fixed to the shaft 38, by rotating the latter in the counterclockwise in fig. 6, which, thanks to the fork 39, produces the coupling of the teeth of the sleeves 19 and 21 of the clutch.
The disengagement then takes place automatically, after one revolution of the camshaft, when a new plate is in projection, and this thanks to the stopper M which acts on the lever 37 fixed at shaft 38, to turn this shaft clockwise on the fi. 6.
When the last plate of the magazine has been thrown and returned to the magazine, the camshaft should stop in the position shown in the drawing. However, at this moment, the stopper is at the top of its travel, since the curtain is closed, that is to say intercepts the light beam. It is therefore necessary to provide an electric clutch. The circuit of the clutch electromagnet 12 is closed by a stop switch, not shown, consisting of a contact cooperating with the contact drum 2'5.
The clutch electromagnet 12 (fig. 4) acts on an armature, not shown, fixed to the shaft 38, by rotating the latter in the direction of clockwise in fig. 6, which, by means of the fork 39 (fig. 6), moves the two sets of teeth of the clutch 19, 21 apart.
Counter device.
If the device is to operate automatically, for example if it is used for advertising purposes, the counter device which will be described periodically and automatically engages the clutch, each time a determined adjustable period of time occurs. has elapsed. This period of time is "counted" by this device in number of revolutions of the camshaft.
The cam 88, integral with the helical helical wheel 20, the same which is used for the release of the magazine, acts once per revolution on a crankshaft 115, pivoting at 116 on a fixed support 117 to the base 1. One of the arms of this lever indeed carries a roller 118, cooperating with this cam, while its other end carries a pawl 19, biased by a spring 120, to cooperate with a vertical rack 121.
This pawl lowers by one step, with each revolution of the cam 88, the rack 121, which is retained in this new position by a ratchet 122, while the pawl 119 returns in position. initial. When this rack is sufficiently lowered, the head of a screw 123 attached to it causes the branch of lever 37 to swing away from that on which stopper 36 acts, as we have seen above.
This movement of the lever 3'7 causes oscillation of the shaft 38 in the opposite direction of the hands of a watch in FIG. 6, which causes the teeth of the sleeves 19, 21 of the clutch to cooperate, via the fork â9. The aforementioned movement of the lever 37 also has the effect of lowering a 124 which, by two fingers 12: 5, 125 ', acts on a horizontal branch of the pawl 119 and of the ratchet 122', so as to move them away from the rack.
The latter, constantly urged upwards by a spring 12.6, returns to the upper position and thus is ready to receive again from the pawl a movement step by step, step in the direction of the bottom. The camshaft has started to rotate and, 360 "later, the bu toir 36 of the lever 28 belonging to the curtain control device, disengages the clutch by oscillating the lever 37. The counter-rod 124 can be released. in turn go up under the effect of a spring 12'7.
Setting says time of projection.
We will now indicate how the adjustment of the time period during which the projection takes place under the control of the counter device due to have just been described.
When the rack 121. rises, a protrusion 128 that it carries abuts against an inclined plane 129 (fig. \?). This inclined plane occupies an adjustable position. In fig. 2, it is represented in its. extreme right position. If it is moved to the left (on fig. 2 '), by means of parts 130, 131 and that it is immobilized in its new position by means of a knurled nut 13'2, the rack will go up, less high than before and it will therefore be necessary for him to take fewer steps to return to a lower position.
Thus, by modifying the position of the inclined plane 129, thanks to the nut 132, the number of turns, that is to say the duration during which the projection of each shot takes place, is adjusted. The integrated plane 129 still fulfills an accessory function. Pushed completely to the left, it lowers the coulter-rod 124 by its rancid protuberance 133. The pawl and the ratchet are released by this counter-rod, the counter device is made inactive.
The appliance is then in the semi-automatic operating position by means of the electric control button.
On semi-automatic of the device. The inclined plane 129, is brought into its extreme left position on the, fi-. 2. By means of a switch not shown, the lamp is turned on and the engine is started. The camshaft 9- is in the position shown in the drawing, which will be called the zero degree position. Pressing an electric control button engages the camshaft by means of the electromagnet 11.
The ma gasin ratchet is locked first, then a plate rises in the projection position, the curtain 213, moves away from the light beam and, at the end of the stroke, disengages the teeth of the sleeves 19, 2 '1. The camshaft is 180 from its starting position. It comes to a stop, while the motor, the worm, the helical wheel and the cam 88 continue to rotate. The cam 88 has no action, because for this position of the inclined plane 129, the counter device and also the feeler are paralyzed.
The lamp, the lenses and the plate which is in the projection position are cooled by the air coming from the fan 7 and directed by suitable channels, one of which is visible at 13'4. Nothing happens until the user presses the control button, again energizing the clutch solenoid. The camshaft starts to turn, the curtain closes, the plate goes down, the magazine takes a step forward, the magazine ratchet is locked, a new plate goes up in the projection position, the curtain opens and causes the clutch. We're back at 180.
This cycle is repeated each time the control button is pressed, until all the plates have passed or an operation of a general switch has caused the lamp to go out and the electric clutch to be activated. camshaft. Then, the curtain closes, the plate descends into the magazine, the latter advances by one step, but the contact drum 20 causes the final disengagement in the zero position of the camshaft. Finally, the motor, to which the contact drum had supplied current despite the interruption of the general switch, stops because this current of the drum is cut a few degrees before the zero position.
Automatic on device.
The inclined plane 129 is elsewhere than in its extreme left position on the fia. 2. The start is the same as for semi-automatic operation up to position 180 of the camshaft. The button has no action, its circuit is cut by a contact which is closed only for this extreme left position of the inclined plane 129; the counting device is working. After a determined number of steps of the rack downwards, the latter mechanically engages the clutch; the camshaft then makes a complete revolution and returns to 180 by performing all the operations described in the previous paragraph. When the curtain reopens, the clutch is mechanically disengaged and the meter starts working again.
If the feeler, who feels while the projection plate returns to its place, does not encounter resistance, that is to say if the next slot in the magazine is empty, it causes the stopper switch to be empty. 101, which moves the pawl and ratchet away from the magazine. This, pulled back, hits a stopper which causes the pawl and the ratchet to be replaced and, in addition, a new electric clutch, and the whole cycle starts again, the successive shots being projected again. alternately.
Cooling device.
The fan 7 sucks the air into the appliance through. Holes 185 provided in the lower part of the rear wall of the cover 5. Holes 136 are provided in the upper part of the cover for let the air out. A screen 13.7, consisting of a solid metal plate, fixed at a short distance from the upper part of this cover, prevents the light from the lamp 17 from reaching the orifices 13.6. It is easily understood that when the engine is running, the air drawn into the device by the fan 7 is expelled by the duct 134 against one of the faces of the cliche located in the projection position in the slide frame 15.
The other side of this cliché is cooled by the air current passing vertically through the magazine 14 thanks to the opening 138 which the bottom of this magazine has and to the empty spaces existing between the different plates that it contains. The air flow will be particularly intense through this magazine at the place where the cliché currently in the projection position was located in it. In this way, the cliché is cooled on both sides and does not run the risk of being damaged as a result of a rise in temperature due to the intense radiation of the lamp 17.
The lamp 17 is preferably provided with a bayonet socket fixed in a socket 1â9 arranged in such a way that there is, between the socket of the lamp and the interior of this socket, an annular space through which flows vertically, towards the top, a sheet of air, under the effect of the fan. This sheet of air completely surrounds the base of the lamp and the body of the latter. Thanks to its circulation in a direction parallel to the axis of the lamp, it ensures that the base of the latter is maintained at low temperature.
