4, A', B', <I>A',</I> 13= etc.
Cet arbre porte une came 42 à rainure 43 (fig.

Method for the exposure to light of cinematographic films and apparatus for their implementation. The invention comprises a method for the exposure to light of graphic cinema films and an apparatus for its implementation.
According to this process, the film is moved relative to the light beam passing through an objective, longitudinally and transversely, so as to bring each half of the film alternately into this light beam, the longitudinal movement and the transverse movement being, combined of so that the same part of the film is placed only once in the light beam in question.
The apparatus for implementing this method comprises members arranged so as to give the film a longitudinal movement and a transverse movement, so as to successively bring each half of the film into a light beam passing through an objective, the movements transverse and longitudinal being combined so that the same part of the film is placed only once in the light beam in question. .

Fig. 27 is a detail view on a larger scale.
In the first embodiment, shown in FIGS. 1 to 6 of the drawing, 10 is a film (FIG. 4) provided, on its two edges, with holes clans which penetrate the teeth of the control wheels. This film presents two rows A and B of images offset from each other, and, in which the images in question follow one another in a zigzag line passing from one row to the other as is indicated at the end. 4, A ', B', <I> A ', </I> 13 = etc.
A shaft 20 carries, at one of its ends, a crank 21 controlling a connecting rod 22 (end. 2 and 3). On the end of this connecting rod 22 is mounted a shaft 23, the ends of which are. engaged in two fingers 24 ending in points 26. At the central part 23a of! shaft 23, play is given so that it can move on an oar 25. This cam 25 is arranged in such a way that it causes the points 26 to descend in a straight line and then causes them to rise again. by describing a curve so as not to come into contact with the film 10 while they are rising.
These fingers 2 -'_ E are mounted on the square shaft 23 so as to be able to slide along its length; this movement is. caused by guides 27 which are fixed to a film holder plate 28. But when the connecting rod 22 comes in to impart a rotational movement to this shaft 23, the fingers 24 are trailed and rotate with it.
Plate 28 is. mounted so as to be able to move in the transverse direction on a set of ball bearings, as shown in 30.
The film 10 presses against the posterior surface of the plate 28 and. passes clans the cou loir 31. This corridor 31 has a large opening 32 and a film pressure plate 33. This pressure plate has a or opening 34, which is given the usual width, but only half of the ordinary height. These details are shown in fig. L and 2.
The fixed opening 12 is located immediately in front of the film 10 and its size is. calculated from the reduction made on the size of the new film.
A camshaft 40 is connected by grained with the shaft. crank 20 (fig. 2). This shaft carries a cam 42 with groove 43 (FIG. 1) whose function is to cause the transverse displacement of the plate 28 of the film 10. The speed of rotation .de the cam 42 is. half lower than that of the crank 21. It follows that this cam 42 only makes a quarter of a turn while the shaft 20 describes. the U-turn that makes the film ashes 10.
It is for this reason that the groove - # 3 presents: two diagonal parts 113a and 4311 which develop in opposite directions on the first 1o and on the third quarter of the. surfa.- active of this cam 42; and two straight sections 43rd. on the other two quarters. Ur. Pebble. 411 is mounted on an arm 45 which is permanently joined with the support plate 28.
The gear system i1 is set in motion. by means of an idle wheel iG engaged with a gear wheel 47 which controls the lower shaft 48. This shaft 48 carries a toothed wheel. A similar tree 48a is installed on the top. of the mechanism and it is. actuated by a graining wheel 47a. This wheel 47a is engaged with a large wheel 49 itself engaged with the gear wheel 47. Finally, the shafts 48 and 48a carry, as usual the toothed wheels 50 which impart to the film the movement necessary for it. pass over the film holder plate 28.
During its exposure to light the film remains stationary. To expose the film, a rotary shutter 55 is used, which is mounted on a shaft 51 and which is controlled by the wheel 49 via the gear wheels 52 and 53. For this purpose, one of the edges of the wheel 49 is provided with a helical toothed gear 49a. This ob turator 55 is provided with two openings which are arranged so that they come to discover the fixed opening 12 once at each turn of the shaft 20, and twice at each turn of the cam 42.
The operation of this device is as follows: 1.1 designates the lens and 12 indicates a fixed aperture whose area corresponds to that of each of the images in rows <I> A </I> and <I> B </I> of a movie. 10. The film 10 is moved behind this opening 12 by <B> - </B> a movement combined so as to bring on this opening 12 successively the closed series of images of the two rows.
Assuming that it is table A, which came to be framed in opening 12 (fia. 4). As the film receives a movement which makes it descend and which shifts it to the right, it is table B, which is brought to be immediately placed in the opening 12 and. to put themselves in sight. For the next phase, the film continues to descend, but its displacement. is done, this time, towards the zaucbe, so that it is. table # 4, which is placed in opening 12.
This movement thus combined with the film's prime makes the whole series of paintings scroll through the two rows which are framed in 12 regularly one after the other.
The drawing shows all these organs in the position they occupy when they are ready to intervene to lower the film and move it to the right. The starting of the organs in the direction indicated by the arrows on the fis. 2 immediately determine the entry into function of the fingers 24. These fingers then lower the film 10. At the same time, the cam 42 drives the plate 28 to the right. In ordinary film, for example, this movement is equivalent to a movement transverse about 12 millimeters. This transverse movement of the film takes place at the same time as its cente.
The film performs these two movements while shaft 20 makes about half a turn and cam 42 makes approximately a quarter turn.
While shaft 20 performs the second half of its turn and cam 42 describes the next quarter of its turn, the film remains stationary. The fingers 24 then perform their upward movement and the roller. 44 is located in one of the 43rd parts of the groove 43 made on the cam- 42. During this phase of. movement accomplished by the mechanism, the film is exhibited, so be it. to obtain a negative cliché, if one operates with a photographic camera for shooting, or to give its projection.
In this mechanism, the claws are placed from. so as to produce the cente of the film only over an area corresponding to a quarter. of the total lowering value produced by the claws in an ordinary device.
Also, in this new film the perforations in which the teeth of the walking wheels come into play do a job which tires them much less and which, consequently, exposes them to wear and tear. deteriorate much slower than that. arrives with the films used so far. Indeed, as the devices ordinarily used today for this work. at high speed, a violent tractive force must be exerted on the walking perforations to suddenly drag the film along in a rapid run as well as to stop it abruptly.
The shutter 5ô could present only ment. one opening or could have more than two.
Far from the above, we now realize that the individual tables of the two rows arranged on the film 10 come to be placed one after the other under the action of this mechanism. When we want to take color paintings, it suffices to expose one of the rows with the help of a transparent slide constituting a screen for one color and the second row of paintings, operating with another which forms a screen for the color. other color. We will thus have, for example, red and green.
You can have the colored screens 55tt and 55v on the shutter 55, or else install them permanently in the correct place and mount them fixed on the plate 28. in front of the film 10.
For projection, it is better to use a fundamentally different way to color the film.
II is. it is preferable to proceed as follows: We take a negative .with. the camera, according to one or the other of the methods just indicated with regard to the colored screen. From this negative, a positive is drawn by operating as desired, according to one of the usual procedures. After which half of this positive is immersed in a dye bath., Including the. dye gives a well defined color, e its second half in a bath producing another color. The delicate gelatin key sewing of the filrii thus takes on the desired color.
This color adheres more vigorously to the exposed part of the gelatinous film which bears the positive than to the unexposed part. It follows that for the positive the color is fixed better on the parts corresponding to those which, in the primitive scene, took more strongly. the same colored shade.
By proceeding in this way, the chosen colors are easily made with the cord. <B> It </B> suffices for this to cover half of the film with a tape or the like which is impermeable to the dyeing material and by immersing the film in a dye bath giving a determined shade. When the color is fixed on the half that has remained uncovered of the film, we cover this latter, in turn, with an appropriate strip and we immerse the film in a second. bath of another color.
We now realize why it is advantageous, when we want to play with the colors, to combine in such a way <B> the </B> movement to be printed on the film that the key tables two rows come alternately. expose yourself when you want to take and. project all the tables in one row: in a row.
The machine shown in fi-. 7 to 2 \ ï included a suitable envelope 110, provided with lids: one at the front 17.1 and the other at the rear ü: '. The front cover 117 carries a lens M and the rear cover carries a telescope 71I1 which is used for focusing the light focus. In 135 (fig. 8) is installed a sight.
The envelope 7.70 has, in its appearance, a rectannular shape and it wedges a: transverse interior wall or frame part <B> 116 </B> on which the major part of the mechanism is mounted.
"A film F (fig. 7) goes down through <B> the, </B> mechanism. It starts from a store which is installed at the top. Key the envelope 710 and it ends in a second niagasiri which- is located below this envelope. These two ma gasins are not shown in the drawing.
The film first passes over the feed teeth = nient 120 -of a wheel installed at the upper part-of the casing 19.0. It then descends through the space reserved between a support plate. 121 and. an i2 corridor? which = are fitted out for this purpose ..
From there it arrives on the advancement teeth 123.

<tb> this <SEP> plate <SEP> film holder <SEP> 121 <SEP> causes <SEP> the <SEP> displacement <SEP> "transverse <SEP> of the <SEP> film <SEP> itself .
Fig. 13 shows in elevation the film support plate 121, the passage 122 being omitted. This 7.22: t plate has the rectangular shape. Each of its longitudinal edges has an extension 125 on which rests a support block 126. These support blocks have grooves 1'27 which constitute paths for ball keys 128. In their course, the balls 128 are stopped by parts. fixed 129 whose position is adjustable, and they are prevented from accidentally moving by protective parts 130.
The plate 121 rests on the mature rear part 116 only by means of the supports which have just been described. It can therefore be moved transversely, never it can move vertically. The supports are adjustable; the risk of them taking the slightest play is thus eliminated and the danger arising from wear and tear is thus completely eliminated. It follows that, while managing to give their movements extreme ease and to make them act with the minimum of friction, we succeed at the same time in preventing them from producing any displacement without useful effect obliquely in relation to the their correct walk.
In a housing located on the rear face of the plate 121 is installed a frame located at 135 (fig. 7, 13, 25 and 26). This frame slides in grooves 135b of its housing, so that it can easily be removed. This is why the top of the frame 135, which projects beyond the upper end of the plate 121, is provided with a handle 135a. The plate 121 has two openings 136 and 137. The frame 135 presents also two corresponding openings 138 and 139 which coincide respectively with the openings 7.36 and 137 ". When one wishes to operate by placing a colored screen at each of its openings, it is on the frame 135 that the two screens are mounted. colorful.
We can then place - for example a red screen on one opening and a green screen on the other.
If you do not want to use the frame with colored openings, you can install instead a simple frame which forms a model frame and which has two openings 133 and 139. In this case, you can also make a frame. 135 to give thumbnail keys.
Immediately in front of the cliché 135, a plate 140 is fixed which has an or verture 141. In the transverse movement of the plate 121, its opening 136 as well as the opening 138 called the projection frame 135 come to coincide with the opening. fixed 141 of the plate 140, while, in the other position, it is the openings 13 <B> 7 </B> and 139 which come to fit with this fixed opening 141 ..
Fig. 13 of the drawing shows the mechanism in the position it occupies when the openings 137 and 139 are in contact with the opening 141. In other words, the film holder plate 121 is. represented when it is furthest to the left. in the fi, -. 9 and 13 which are views taken from the rear; the organs which perform a reciprocating movement in the horizontal direction are represented in their extreme right position, in front view (fig. 8, 10 and 12) and in horizontal sections (fig. 11 and 26 ).
These new organs which have just been discussed are mounted on the front face of the frame part 116 on which there is a plate 150 which rests on bearings so as to be able to perform a back and forth movement. These bearings are provided in an oblong opening 151 in the frame piece 116. In this way the posterior surface of the plate 150 comes very close to the rear surface of the film holder plate 121. But at no point does neither contact nor friction occur between these two plates 121 and 15 ′ -); a free space remains between them, as we can see (fi-.: and 1.1).
In addition, this film-holder plate 121 does not rub against the frame part 116, or any other part of the machine, except through its lower end on which a friction stop can be installed. The plate 121 has a projection 7.52 which is subjected at each end of, .ourse of this plate to the action of spring wools. 152a and 152b (fis. 7) which are fixed to the plate 116.
The slight friction of these spring wools is sufficient to keep the plate 121 fixed in its stop position.
The fis. 12 shows in elevation the front plate 150 which is driven in a reciprocating movement.
At one of its ends this + e plate r, i i:; ento an extension 155 on which rests the support block 155n. This 155h support is mounted on ball bearings: one. 156, above and. the other, 157, below. These brackets 756 and 157 are mounted on the front side of the reinforcement piece 1.96.
So we see it on the right end of the fis. 10, 11 and 12, la. second end of the plate 150 has no fulcrum on the anterior face of the frame part 116, but it rests in the bearings <B> 158 </B> and 159 which are mounted on the side posterior of this 1.1'v 'piece. In order to keep it in the bearings 158 and 159 installed on the rear face of the reinforcement part 1.16, the plate 150 has, on its rear surface, support blocks 1.60.
To impart to the plate 150 its reciprocating transverse movement, a cam 65 is mounted on a longitudinal shaft 66 disposed horizontally. The posterior extremity of shaft 66 rests in a suitable bearing 67 which carries a bracket 68, and its front end is mounted in a second bearing 69 which is. supported by an applique 70, as shown in particular by the fis. 11. The cam 65 rotates between two vertical guides 71. and 72, mounted for the nlamie 150 in the lane they make.
perform an outward and return journey. The constructive arrangement of the cam 65 is combined in such a way that, on the one hand, its opposite faces are at all times in contact with the two guic; es 71 and 72 and due, on the other hand , it causes the back and forth of the plate 150.
The speed of rotation of shaft 66 is no more than half the speed of a main shaft 73, so cam 65 first moves plate 150 to the left during. the phase corresponding to one revolution of the main shaft 73 then moves this same plate 150 to the right during. that tree 73 makes the next wolf.
Tree 73 also puts. in action the mechanism (you longitudinal movement for the rope, which gives this film an ion, it.u- clinal movement at each turn of this shaft. 73. This shaft 73 controls the shaft 66 by means of the gear wheels 1160 and 1161, the ratio of which is one to two.
One of the ends of the main shaft 73 is. molded in a bearing '74 which is installed on a wall of the casing 110. Its other end rests in a bearing 75, fitted for this purpose on the wall bracket 70. Near its end first mentioned the shaft 73 carries a flywheel 76. A wheel 77 is installed on a shaft (the drive 78 which rests in the bearings '79 and. 80. The wheel 77 is engaged with a pinion 81 mounted on the main shaft 73 (fis. 7 and. iii.
On the drive shaft 78 is installed, for example, the starting crank, or other motive power piece, and. this. tree sets all the iné canisiue in motion.
The wheel 71 also lives with a smaller gear wheel 84 which in turn drives a pinion 85 mounted on a shaft 86. This shaft 86 is mounted in bearings 8 7 and 88 (Fig. 8). The bearing 87 rests on a part [the support 89, which is suspended.
Through the wheel. of conical gears 90, the shaft 86 actuates the shaft 91. On this shaft 91 is mounted a shutter 92 which is installed so that its solid part 92a and its opening 92b lie in front of the opening fixed 141. It goes without saying that this shutter 92 can be given any configuration deemed useful. It is better to arrange an adjustable opening on it. Each time the shaft 73 makes a revolution, the shutter 92 discovers and hides the film once.
Also, that.nd one operates with a shutter having only one or green, one rotates at equal speeds its shaft 91 and the main shaft 73.
The tree. cam 66 actuates a vertical shaft 95 via the helical gears 96. By means of the helical gears 97 the vertical shaft 95 drives the shafts 98 and 99 which carry the donated feed wheels installed in one. the top, the other at the bottom of the machine.
By means of closed angle gears 100 the lower shaft 99, for the walking toothed wheel for the film, controls a connecting piece 101 which activates a counter system to indicate the number of centimeters and that of the paintings in the film.
On his face. e front, the plate 150, which is driven in a back and forth movement, com carries a pair of vertical guides 105. On these guides is mounted and rests by its bottom a slider which. moves vertically. This cursor, movable in the vertical direction, comprises a bottom 106 and two pairs of guides 107 which project forward. Each pair of guides 107 carries a claw plate 108 which slides in the guides in a horizontal direction. The guides 107 are integral with the bottom 106. The outer ends of the guides of each pair are brought together and held in couple by a vertical rod 109.
The construction is thus combined so that the claw plates 108 can fit exactly in the guides 107 and be guided there precisely in their horizontal sliding movement, without the least play. In addition, the surfaces on which the claw plates 108 slide on the guides 1.07 are sufficiently extended so that the wear is little or no wear.
These are figs. 1.6 and 21 which best show how is. formed by the smooth neck surface at the upper edge of a claw plate <B> 180. </B> In <B> 1110 </B> are provided the bearing faces on which they slide by their sides. In 1111 on the top and bottom edges of the claw plate are formed the bearing faces on which glis feels their top and. their background. Finally in 111Z this claw plate 108 has longitudinal shoulders.
Each claw plate 108 has a square opening (fig. 16 to 20), the four sides of which are formed by the upper and lower edges 1113 as well as by the front and rear edges 1114. The dimension to be given in 1o is calculated. vertically to this square opening and the arrangement to be formed with its parts is combined, so that the upper and lower surfaces 9.113 are preferably found, if killed in the extension, of the opposite surfaces 111h of the guides <B> 107. </B>
On the shaft 73 is arranged an oblong cam 1120, the special configuration of which is shown in FIGS. 11, 16 to 20. This cam 1120 is. shaped in such a way that it is always in contact and in work with the opposite edges 1113 and 9.11111 of the opening made in the claw plates 108.
As a result of its special arrangement, this cam always also acts on the opposite surfaces of the guides 707. It follows from this arrangement that the rotation of this cam necessarily causes, on the one hand, the vertically movable cursor to move in the vertical direction. on the plate 150, when the latter performs its reciprocating movement and, on the other hand, brings the plates to:
claws 108 to slide hori- zcnta.lement. on the guides <B> 107 </B> when the latter complete their course in the horizontal direction, Le. slider and the claw plates are therefore caused to move vertically as a result of the engagement of the hull 1120 either with the surfaces 1113 or with the surfaces 1115. For the machine to operate it is not necessary for this machine to operate. cam is in engagement with the above two faces; however, this would provide a better fulcrum.
As has already been indicated, the cam 1120 is quite long. It does not move in the axial direction, but in the movements which they effect. with plate 150, the cur sor and the claw plates slide on this cam.
At its rear end, each claw plate 108 has a rear part 108a. The latter circulates while having play, clans a slide 106a, which is arranged on the bottom 106 of the slider and clans which it is applied correctly; it also works .a clans slide 1125 that includes the reciprocating plate 150 and which provides it. from space.
On the ends of the narrowed parts 108a are. installed the claws 1126 for the film, which, during their movement, engage in the slots 1197 made on the film-holder plate 121. For the direction to give them vertically the narrowed parts 1.08a of the claw plates 10a fit intimately into the slots 1127 of the film holder plate 121.
It follows that when the claws 1126 have been launched to engage in these slots <B> 1127, </B> the film-holder plate 121 is coupled with the plate 1; 50, which is animated by 'back and forth motion through the claw plates 108. This. coupling is the only connection that exists between the reciprocating plate 150 and. the filni-holder plate 121 for the horizoMel movement of the seconds.
However, in order to remove everything. risk of accidental displacement of the film holder plate 121, after it has come to fit correctly on the plate 150, in order to. also prevent any defective danger which would result from these two plates being too far apart from each other e)
which would prevent the claws .-- 112g from engaging in the slots 9.i9, a special arrangement is established between these two plates 121 and 150 serving to limit their release 150 a tenon 1130 which is engaged in a hole 1131 in the plate 121. The dimension of the hole 1131 is slightly greater than that of the tenon 1130. This tenon and this hole thus prevent the plates 12i and M0 from deviating too far from one another.
However, the installation of this tenon and this hole is calculated in such a way that, when the mechanism operates normally and unless the plate 121 is accidentally moved, the tenon 1130 does not come but touch it. ].) junk from hole 1131.
It follows that during the. normal operation of the machine the plate 7.50 and the film holder plate 9.21 are only connected by the film feed dogs, which are. completely clear of the plate 129 during the installation and exposure phases of the film.
Care is taken to limit the extent of movement then allowed to the plate 121 (two thousandths 11, of a millimeter) by having. care to bevel slightly the anterior ends of the claw plates 108 so that clans the limit of this displacement, they always come to engage clans the slots of the plaquo-121.
Fig. 15 shows the arrangement given to the tables of the film with which one operates in this improved machine. A film is used which has the normal width generally adopted and the ordinary holes. Fig. 9.6 shows the organs in a posinon corresponding to the one represented: fi, - ,. 7 to 1'L.
In this position, the shutter 9 ?, which turns in the direction indicated by the arrow, comes. to pass .its opening 92b in front of the fixed opening 141; but, on the next half-turn, this opening will be hidden. In this position, the claw plates 108 and their claws 1126 have just advanced to take the position shown in fig. 16 and 1 \ ?, at the high point of their stroke.
By continuing their rotational movement, the members move the fingers further forward, which then occupy the position shown in fig. 16 and. 17, in their right position, when you see them. from the front of the machine.
While this movement is carried out, which starts from the position shown in fig. le to arrive at that which is represented fi, - ,. 17, the plate 150 remains stationary. But, when the organs have reached the position of fig. 17; the cam 65 has come to take the desired position to begin to set the plate 150 in motion as well as the entire system which is connected to the latter.
Then the hull 1.120 brings down the plates 1.03 and their claws 1126, which come to take the position shown in fig. 13; after which the claws are also brought to occupy their position; extreme to, left, as seen in fi-. 19.
During this time, the cam 65 completes a quarter turn causing the displacement of the plate 150 to the left (Figs. 17a and 18a). While the claws go up to return to the position shown in fig. 17, the cam 65 has no action on the plate 1.50 (fig. 19a).
The shutter intervenes to hide the film while it goes down. The film begins to be masked as soon as the claws 1126 approach. from their position shown in fig. 16; this phase ends when these claws are brought to the position shown in fig. 19. The exhibition of the film takes place during the period when these claws are no longer in contact with it. While the claws 1126 perform the movements which release them from the film, raise them and re-engage them with this film, and during all the time that they are no longer in engagement with the plate 121, phase during which occurs the he exhibition of a painting, the pla que, 150 is at rest, sometimes on the left, sometimes on the right.
It will be noted that the organs which are driven in a reciprocating movement in the horizontal direction include: The film-holder plate as well as its passage, all the parts which are connected to them, and the back-and-forth plate 150 as well as all the parts that are mounted on it. Cam 65 also describes horizontal compound movement. This reciprocating movement in the hori zontal direction as well as the sliding movement in the vertical direction of the guides 107 and of the claw plates 103 are balanced by the combined establishment, for this purpose, of or ganes which move in the direction opposite.
On the anterior part -of the casing of the cinematographic apparatus is installed a cam 1140 which is mounted on the anterior end of the shaft 66. This cam 1140 has a shape similar to that of the cam 65 and it fits. is placed on the shaft 66 in a position substantially opposite to that of the cam 65. The radial dimensions of this cam 1140 may be smaller than those of the cam 65; but the first is given a greater thickness than the second; in this way, the cam 1.140 counterbalances the cam 65. The weight of the cam 1140 can be adjusted with precision by making a cutout in it, as indicated at 1141.
The cam 1140 actuates a cursor 1.142 which is driven by a horizontal reciprocating movement. This slider is based on anti-friction bearings 1143 and 11.44, which are of the same type as those described above. To give it the correct weight, the cursor 1142 can be overloaded with one or more parts 1145 which are fixed on one of its faces. By proceeding in this way, it is possible to adjust exactly the weight which will be rigorously sufficient to counterbalance, in the mechanism, the organs which are driven by a reciprocating movement in the opposite direction.
The cam 1140 imparts to the cursor 1142 a back and forth movement in the direction opposite to the reciprocating movements effected by the members which the cam 05 moves horizontally.
By the special arrangement of the organs; which has just been described, it is possible to eliminate from the mechanism of the apparatus substantially any vibration having visible consequences, so that the film remains absolutely motionless during the phases in which it is exposed. We thus obtain views whose sharpness and finish are so developed that, despite their small size, these views can give on the screen the usual enlargements with great finesse and beautiful clarity in detail.
Figs. 22, 23 and 24 show the details of the antifriction bearing 156 of FIG. 12. The plate 150 comprises a support block 155a which constitutes a bearing and .on which are arranged grooves 31.50 for ball bearings. The ball i151 is housed in the channel 1.1.50 and in a second similar channel 1152 arranged in a support block 1l.53 whose position is adjustable.
For its correct positioning, the <B> 1153 </B> block is guided by a pair of pins 1154 which is engaged in a slot 1155 made on this support block. Screws 1156 are used to hold this block 1153 in the correct position against the piece of reinforcement 1.16. In order to flexibly eliminate the play in this support bearing 1153, one can intervene, for example. a spring, not shown, the power of which is calculated so as to enable it to fulfill this role.
When this bearing has been properly adjusted, the screws 1156 are engaged therein and it is thus held rigidly in the correct place. The ball 3151 is prevented from accidentally escaping by means of a guard plate 1157 which prevents the ball from escaping from both ends as well as from the side of the fixed support block, as shown in fig. 22, 23 and 24. Another 1.158 guard plate is fitted at the end of the track. <B> 1150 </B> so that the ball cannot accidentally escape when its stroke brings it to this end. place.
The drive connection installed between shafts 73 and 66 can be adjusted so that the ratio to be established between cams 1120 and 65 can be combined with precision. The small angle gear wheel 1.160 (fig. Ii and 21 ) can be connected in an adjustable manner with the shaft 73, that is to say with the cam 1120 which is virtually part of said shaft. and it is engaged with a gear wheel 1161 mounted, on the shaft 66. The ratio. of the two gears 11.60 and 1161 is 1 to 2.
The little wheel. angle <B> 1160 </B> is mounted on a sleeve 1162 carried by the bearing 75, which is preferably a ball bearing.
This sleeve has at one of its ends a flange 1.163, the com face of which carries clutch claws 1164. At the end of the cam 1120 is. fitted out a re edge 1i65 which is provided with -similar clutch claws. Screws 1166 engage in these two flanges and hold them opposite and in engagement with each other.
It is thus possible to correctly adjust the graining wheel 1160 relative to the cam 1320. In this way, it is possible. adjust exactly the relation to be established between the 65 e + 1120 cams, after having assembled all the parts which constitute the mechanism, in order above all to remedy any wear which could occur to them and to keep them in exact synchronism, even when they are so is little worn.
