Process for the production of a water-soluble, higher molecular weight, α-substituted benzylamine derivative. It has been found that quaternary compounds can be obtained if tertiary amines with α-halogen-substituted benzyl compounds according to the following schematic formula
EMI0001.0008
which must contain at least one higher molecular weight, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic (also cyeloaliphatic) radical.
The higher molecular weight radical can be in the aliphatic or aromatic part of the benzyl compound; the benzene nucleus can also be substituted as desired.
The α-halogen-substituted benzyl compounds are obtained from the corresponding higher molecular weight ketones according to the schematic formula benzene radical — CO-aliphatic radical, for which the above definitions apply, via the corresponding secondary alcohols and replacement of the hydroxyl group by halogen.
As starting compounds, for example: Ketones, which bezw from benzene and lauric acid. Palm kernel fatty acid, from benzene homologues such as To- 2n xylene etc. and coconut oil fatty acid, from anisole, phenetole, etc. and naphthenic acid, from dodecylbenzene and acetic acid, etc. he will keep.
The following amines which can be used for reaction with the above α-halogen-substituted benzyl compounds include: trimethylamine, triethylamine, tributylamine, pyridine, dimethylbenzylamine, etc.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the preparation of a water-soluble, higher molecular weight, u-substituted benzylamine derivative, characterized in that -man 1- (a-chloro-dodecyl) -4-methylbenzene (obtainable by reducing 4-HZethyl -laurophenori to the corresponding secondary alcohol and replacement of the hydroxyl group by chlorine) with trimethylamine.
The new compound forms a light-colored paste that is clearly soluble in water and can be used as a disinfectant. Example: 50 parts of 1- (a-chlorododecyl) -4-methylbenzene are reacted with excess trimethylamine in an enamel autoclave at 150 for 10 hours. The resulting semi-solid slurry is not clearly soluble in water; By separating off the ether-soluble, a light-colored paste remains when the aqueous solution evaporates, which can be converted again smoothly into a 10% aqueous solution.
Triethylamine and pyridine react like trimethylamine.
The 1- (a-chlorododecyl) -4-methylbenzene is obtained as follows: In a 11/1 liter three-necked flask who slurried 40 parts with HeCl, activated aluminum powder in 350 parts by volume of 50% alcohol with thorough stirring. At room temperature, a warm solution of 100 parts of 4-ethyl-laurophenone in 200 parts by volume of 95% alcohol is allowed to slowly <RTI for 11/2 hours
ID = "0002.0031"> drop in. The reducing solution heats up to 60-70 with good HL development; cool a little if necessary. After everything has dripped in, stirring is continued overnight at room temperature. In the morning, it is quickly heated to around 50 and sucked off. The remaining aluminum; Minium hydroxide is washed out thoroughly with hot alcohol. The aqueous alcoholic filtrate is mixed with twice the volume of water and the oxy body is obtained by etherification.
It distills in the Hoehval, about 0.1 mm undecomposed at 155.
until? 2: 5. 1- (a-Oxy-dodecyl) -4-methylbenzene is liquid at room temperature with a characteristic brown fluorescence. The yield is 78-80 parts.
160 parts of 1- (a-oxydodecyl) -4-methylbenzene are placed in a ground-joint flask with a reflux condenser all at once with an excess of 80 parts of phosphorus trichloride. The mixture is left at 70-80 "for 6 hours, only a small amount of HCl escapes, with a small yellow base of phosphorous acid being formed. It is poured into sufficient water; the 1- (a-chlorododecy 1) - 4-methy 1-benzene precipitates out as a milky mass.
After being absorbed in ether, the mineral acid formed may only be removed by carefully running water through it, since. vigorous shaking produces inseparable emulsions. After the ether has dried and chased away, a yellow 01 remains. It is used raw for further implementation.
The raw yield is 134 parts.
