Additional patent to main patent No. 215661. Process for the production of a substantive azo dye. The present patent is a process for the preparation of a substantive azo dye. The procedure is characterized by
that the nitromonoazo dye obtainable by the alkaline coupling of diazotized 5-nitro-2-aminophenoxyacetic acid with 2-phenylamino-5-oxynaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid is reduced to the aminomonoazo dye, this is condensed with 4-nitrobenzoyl chloride,
the nitro group is reduced to the amino group and 2 moles of the aminobenzoyl aminomonoazo dye are linked to phosgene.
The new dye is a dark powder that dissolves in water with a purple color and dyes cotton purple.
Example: 1 mole of the nitromonoazo dye produced by alkaline coupling from 1 mole of diazotized 5-nitro-2-aminophenoxyacetic acid and 1 mole of 2-phenylamino-5-oxynaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid is mixed with 420 parts by weight of crystallized sodium sulfur in aqueous solution at 60-70 converted into the aminoazo dye.
This is salted out and; expediently redissolved once, then redissolved in water with soda and reacted in a soda-alkaline solution at about 50-60 with good stirring with excess, finely powdered p-nitrobenzoyl chloride until an acidified sample no longer absorbs nitrite. The p-nitrobenzoylaminoazo dye has fallen out and is filtered off with suction. The dye can be redissolved for cleaning.
By reduction with sodium sulphide, such as; stated above, the nitro group is converted into the amino group and the p-amino-benzoylamino monoazo dye is salted out, filtered off and redissolved. The urea derivative is obtained by introducing phosgene into the aqueous, soda-alkaline solution of the dye.
The formation of urea is complete when no more free amino groups can be detected by diazotization and coupling with R salt. The dye is then filtered off and dried. It is a dark powder that stains cotton purple.
5 By treating the dye with copper salts, the dye becomes bluer and, apart from that, washable and lightfast.
