Description
Process for the production of a new sulfonic acid mixture. It has been found that a new sulfonic acid mixture is obtained if a mixture of equal parts, u-undecylbenzimidazole and N-benzyl-p-heptadecy 1-benzimidazole chlorohydrate is condensed with isopropyl alcohol in the presence of a dehydrating agent and the condensation product obtained is condensed treated with a sulfonating agent.
Sulfur acid monohydrate is particularly suitable as the dehydrating agent in the present case.
The new sulphonic acid mixture forms a light colored, crystalline powder in the form of the sodium salts, which is absorbed by water to form a well wetting and foaming solution of high detergency, which solution remains clear after the addition of dilute mineral acids. It can be used as a textile auxiliary, in particular as a detergent.
Example: 25 parts by weight of ß-undecylbenzimidazole and 25 parts by weight of N-benzyl-u-heptadecylbenzimidazole chlorohydrate are gradually dissolved in 100 parts by weight of sulfuric acid monohydrate at 15-20 °.
After complete dissolution, with constant stirring at 0-3 ", 5 parts by weight of phosphorus trichloride are introduced within approx. 20 minutes, and 6 parts by volume of isopropyl alcohol are then gradually added at the same temperature. The reaction mass then increases to 50 within ½ hours -52o heated and stirred at this temperature for 6 hours.
The reaction mixture is then cooled to 10-12 ° and sulphonated in the usual way with sulfuric acid containing 24% SO 2 until a sample of the sulphonation mass neutralized with sodium hydroxide remains clear in the heat after the addition of dilute sulfuric acid.
The sulfonation mixture is then poured onto ice and the sulfonic acid mixture which has separated out is filtered off.
By distributing the acid in water and neutralizing it with sodium hydroxide solution, after evaporation of the solution, the sodium salts of the new sulfonic acid mixture are obtained as a light-colored, crystalline powder that is absorbed by water to form a well-wetting and foaming solution of high detergency, which Solution remains clear after the addition of dilute 3-liter acid.
