  Verfahren zur Herstellung eines     betainartig    konstituierten Kondensationsproduktes.         In    der     Patentschrift    Nr. 212410 ist     ein     Verfahren zur Herstellung eines     betainartig     konstituierten Kondensationsproduktes be  schrieben, welches man erhält, wenn     Octa-          decylchlormethyläther    mit     Dimethylamino-          essigsäuremethylester    umgesetzt und das er  haltene Reaktionsprodukt verseift     wird.     



  Gegenstand dieser Erfindung ist ein Ver  fahren zur Herstellung eines     betainartig    kon  stituierten Kondensationsproduktes, welches  dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, dass     Octadecyl-          chlormethyläther    mit     a-Dimethylaminopropion-          säuremethylester    umgesetzt und das erhaltene  Reaktionsprodukt verseift     wird.     



  Die Umsetzung wird zweckmässig so aus  geführt, dass man den     Octadecylchlormethyl-          äther    an den Ester der     Aminocarbonsäure     anlagert und anschliessend das Reaktionspro  dukt verseift, was zum Beispiel durch Behand  lung mit einem     alkalisch        wirkenden    Mittel  wie Natronlauge, Soda oder     Magnesiumoxyd     erfolgen kann, wobei gleichzeitig das Halogen  atom     entfernt    wird.    Die neue     betainartig    konstituierte Verbin  dung stellt einen festen Körper dar, der     in     Wasser, besonders beim Erwärmen,     löslich     ist.

   Er ist wegen seiner hohn     Kapillaraktivi-          tät    vor allem in der     Textilindustrie    als Netz-,       Reinigungs-,        Dispergier-        und        Aviviermittel     verwendbar.

   Auch     zusammen    mit andern     Tex-          tilhilfsmitteln    wie Seife,     Alkoholsulfonaten,          Fettsäurekondensationsprodukten,        Alkylnaph-          thalinsulfonsäuren    und andern     kann    das Pro  dukt Verwendung     finden.     



  <I>Beispiel:</I>  In ein Gemisch von 159 Gewichtsteilen       Octadecylchlormethyläther    und 400 Gewichts  teilen     Methylenchlorid    lässt man 66 Gewichts  teile     a-Dimethylaminopropionsäure-methyl-          ester        einfliessen.    Das Lösungsmittel wird sodann  im Vakuum     abdestilhert    und der erhaltene  Rückstand mit einem Gemisch von 300 Ge  wichtsteilen     Wasser.    und 80 Gewichtsteilen  Natronlauge von 38       B6    versetzt. Man rührt  die.

   Masse 1 Stunde bei einer Temperatur      von     70-751    C und neutralisiert mit verdünn  ter     Salzsäure.    Nach Entfernung der Haupt  menge des Wassers     durch    Eindampfen er  hält man eine farblose, in Wasser klar lös  liche Paste des     Betains
