Balloon probe with a device to limit the height of the probe. The invention relates to a Bal lonsonde which is provided with a device for limiting the rise of the probe. According to the invention, the probe is equipped with several balloons, some of which are deactivated when the desired height of rise is reached. An arrangement is advantageously used in which at least one of the instruments of the balloon probe, which are used to measure the meteorological parameters, also controls the height of the balloon probe.
The drawing illustrates an exemplary embodiment and details of several exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention.
In .der Fig. 1 an apparatus <I> A </I> is attached to three balloons B1, B2, B3 by means of the supporting structure T. This apparatus <I> A </I> contains the instruments for measuring the meteorological quantities in the atmosphere.
The balloon probe rises under the effect of the climbing forces of the balloons. <B> Since </B> it is often the case that examinations are to be carried out in relatively low altitudes of the atmosphere, it is not advisable to use the balloon probe to a height at which the balloons plotted, whereupon the apparatus, which in this case would have to be parachuted, would slide back down to earth. According to the invention, some of these balloons can be put out of action when the desired height of rise is reached.
This can be done, for example, by causing some of the balloons to explode, or also by detaching some of the balloons from the apparatus.
The climbing force that the remaining balloons exert on the balloon probe is expediently selected so that the balloon probe falls so slowly that the instruments cannot be damaged when it is placed on the ground. In Fig. 2 details of two exemplary embodiments of the order are shown.
On the fastening means indicated by lines 1, 2 and 3, the climbing forces of three different balloons B ,, B. and B.- Middle of the structure T is the apparatus A, which is used to carry out the meteorological measurements, indicated.
The apparatus consists of a bimetal strip (Bi), with which the temperature is measured, and a can barometer provided for measuring the air pressure <I> DB. </I> While the balloons B_ and B3 are firmly attached to the structure T, the Ballon B, attached to a hot wire HD, as used for electrical fuses, in such a way that the balloon B is detached from the supporting structure T when this hot wire melts.
The can barometer influences an adjustable contact K_ This contact is set in advance so that it is closed when the can barometer shows a certain pressure, that is, when the balloon probe reaches the desired height.
At this moment, a circuit from the battery Batt closes. through the line L., through the hot wire HD, back through the line <I> L.,. </I> via the contact K = back to the other pole of the battery Batt. Under the effect of the electric current, the hot wire melts and thereby puts the climbing force of balloon B out of action.
The carrying capacity of the remaining balloons B "and B3 is chosen so that it is so much smaller that under the influence of the weight of the balloon probe it slowly descends to the earth. If the effect of a balloon is to be ineffective by explosion of the balloon instead of detaching it are made, the hot wire is arranged in the envelope of the balloon itself to be exploded. In this case, the balloons are to be filled with a gas that can be easily exploded by an electric hot wire.
2 shows, for example, how the balloon B._ is caused to explode by the action of the bimetallic strip <I> Bi </I> as soon as a predetermined temperature is reached. For this purpose, the bimetal strip Bi is provided with a contact K which closes when the bimetal strip Bi has cooled to a certain temperature.
The following circuit is closed by contact r,: Battery Batt, contact K ,, bimetallic strip Bi, line <I> L "</I> hot wire HD" in balloon B. ,, back, through line L, to the other pole of the battery batt. Under the action of the current, the hot wire becomes. HD .. brought to melt and this melting temperature is sufficient.
around the gas of the balloon B ;; to explode.
Instead of the electrical current, the balloons can also be released using a latch device that is actuated by one of the measuring instruments.
