Process for the production of an acidic wool dye. It has been found that valuable acidic wool dyes can be obtained if nitro compounds of the general formula

where Y denotes halogen or an alkoxy group, condensed with aminosulfonic acids of the diarylamine, cycloalkyl-arylamine or carbazole series.
The condensation takes place in the presence of acid-binding agents such as sodium acetate, lime, chalk and similar substances in water or in suitable organic solvents or in mixtures of both by heating men both under reflux cooling and under pressure.
The acidic wool dyes obtained in this way are distinguished by very good leveling properties and good fastness properties of the dyeings achieved therewith, in particular by excellent lightfastness.
The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of an acidic wool dye, characterized in that 1-chloro-2-nitro-4-cyanobenzene is condensed with 4-aminodiphenylamine-2-sulfonic acid.
The dye thus obtained dyes wool from an acid bath in yellow-brown shades of good levelness and excellent lightfastness.
Example: 26.4 parts of 4-aminodiphenylamine-2-sulphonic acid, 18.5 parts of 1-chloro-2-nitro-4-cyanobenzene and 11 parts of sodium carbonate are mixed with about 150 parts of water and 40 parts of alcohol heated to boiling under reflux for several hours. The solution is then filtered and the dye formed is separated off by adding sodium chloride.
