Description
EMI0001.0014
Process for the preparation of a nitro dye. It has been found that valuable water-soluble nitro dyes are obtained if aromatic amines are condensed with Nitroverbin compounds of the aromatic series containing exchangeable halogen, nitro or alkogy groups, at least one of the components being one or more alkyl SOsH-. Contains alkyl COOH groups.
The dyes obtained are distinguished by good fastness properties and are particularly suitable for dyeing leather.
The condensation takes place in water or in organic solvents or in mixtures of both according to methods known per se. The reaction can be carried out either by heating on the reflux condenser or under pressure.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the preparation of a nitro dye, which is characterized in that 4-aminophenyl-1-methyltaurine is condensed with 2-methogy-3,5-dinitro-1-benzoic acid.
Example; 230 parts by weight of 4-aminophenyl-1-methyltaurine of the formula
EMI0001.0014
are neutralized with sodium carbonate in a little water and heated in the presence of 272 parts by weight of crystallized sodium acetate with 247 parts by weight of 2-methogy-3,5-diDitro-1-benzoic acid for about 5 hours at 80-90 C. Condensation occurs quickly. On cooling the dye crystallizes out and is completely precipitated by sodium chloride.
The product obtained in this way is a brown powder which easily dissolves in water with a yellow-brown color and evenly dyes leather in yellow-brown shades.
