Geht man von Leukoverbindungen der Farbstoffe aus, so werden die entstandenen Alkylsulfonsäuren nachträglich nach den üblichen Methoden zu Farbstoffen oxydiert;
Process for the preparation of a triarylmethane dye. The main patent no. 163012 protects a process for the preparation of a triaryl methane dye, which is characterized in that 1 mole of p-chlorobenzaldehyde and 2 moles of butylphenyltaurine are condensed to the triphenylmethane compound, oxidized to form the dye and the dye obtained in this way Reacts p-phenetidine by heating.
It has now been found that such or similar dyes are obtained if triarylmethane dyes or their preproducts, such as leuco compounds and others which contain esters of the group> N-alkyl-OH one or more times in the molecule, with alkali metal sulfites treated at higher temperatures. During this process, the esters are converted into the corresponding alkyl sulfonic acids.
This process is not restricted to bodies which are derived from the oxyethyl radical, rather alkylsulfonic acids which contain the sulfo group bonded to other radicals, such as propane, butane, etc., can also be removed with the same ease represent the corresponding esters.
It is also possible to obtain dyestuffs that contain oxyalkyl groups in addition to sulfoalkyl groups, either starting from compounds whose oxyalkyl groups are only partially esterified, or when reacting ester compounds with insufficient amounts of sulfite for complete implementation. The esters and sulfonic acids obtained in this way also contain the compounds can be saponified in the normal way to give the corresponding oxyalkyl sulfoalkyl compounds.
If leuco compounds of the dyes are used as the starting point, the resulting alkylsulfonic acids are subsequently oxidized to dyes by the customary methods;
the same also applies if dyes are reduced to leuco compounds through reaction with sulfite. If the alkylsulfonic acids are prepared from diaryl methanes and the like, then triaryl methane dyes are built up therefrom in a manner known per se.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the preparation of a dye of the triarylmethane series; It consists in @that an alkali metal salt of the sulfuric acid ester of a leuco base, which is obtainable by condensation of 1 mole of o-clilobenzaldehyde with 2 moles of N-, ss-oxypropylbutyl aniline,
treated with an alkali sulfite at elevated temperature and oxidized the leuco compound to the dye.
The moist sodium salt of the sulfuric acid ester from 60 parts by weight of a leuco base, which is obtained by condensation of 1 mole of o-chlorobenzaldehyde with 2 moles of N-, ß-oxypropylbutylaniline, is heated with 120 parts by weight of crystallized sodium sulfite to 130 'for 6 hours. The reaction mass is dissolved in hot water.
The separation of the new compound is carried out by adding table salt.
In this way, the sodium salt of a leuco compound is obtained which contains two propanesulfonic acid residues and which apparently has the following constitution:
EMI0002.0045
It is easily soluble in water. A green dye is obtained therefrom by oxidation in a known manner.
