Une forme d'exécution & l'objet de l'in vention -est représentée,à titre d'exemple, au dessin annexé, dans lequel: La, fig. 1 montre une coupe verticale du robinet -de frein et une vue schématique #de quelques parties d'une installation de freinà laquelle ce robinet est appliqué; La fig. 2 est une vue en plan du robinet de frein;

Brake valve for brake systems to Fluid under pressure. The present invention relates to a brake valve for brake systems to ffi V iide under pressure. of the with automatic recovery type to control the operation of the brakes to fluid under pressure.
In the with automatic cover brake valves hitherto used to control the operation of pressurized brakes for the purpose of tightening and releasing them. brakes, the ma n t, nual force applied to the handle or to the valve lever to control da operation of ce < / B> valve is in opposition to the usual relatively powerful regulating spring and to the fluid at the pressure # of the brake cylinder # dre acting on one side of a movable support part, such as a piston or a flexible diaphragm, so that considerable manual effort is required to move the handle or the control lever to one,
brake application position and maintain it in this position, resulting in the inconvenience that the mechanic easily becomes tired - and that he ZD then has difficulty in controlling the exact application and release of the brakes.
The brake valve for pressurized fluid-brake systems according to the invention comprises a valve mechanism with manual control and devices cover to automatically bring said mechanism to its overlap position from which it can be set to the, main to its positions -of tightening, and -releasing by means of -a handle, pedal or other similar member without actuating the #covering devices, so there thus allow rapid -and exact control of the pressurized fluid.
The covering devices usually comprise a ' e support piece subjected to the pressure, a spring and to the pressure. fluid prevailing in a chamber connected to the brake installation and to through the, - which is the arrival of fluid to </ B > the installation and its exit from it. Preferably, the valve mechanism is arranged to be manually operated without. -Compress or tension said spring and without finding -d'opposition on the part of -de the fluid pressure being established or developed in said chamber.
In one embodiment of the object of the invention, the major part of the with control valve mechanism -of the brake valve is mounted in a removable part of the box-enclosure -of the brake valve, so that this part with the to mechanism forms a -assembly which can be -de- mounted or mounted on a fixed part of the box-casing, brake valve.
It is advantageous to provide a to. automatic cover control valve, in which the valve can be adjusted so as to to . obtains, a predetermined control pressure for any given position of the member serving -à to actuate the mechanism- to valve '.
An embodiment & the object of the invention -is shown, to by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which: La, fig. 1 shows a vertical section of the brake valve and a schematic view # of some parts of a brake system to which this valve is applied; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the brake valve;
Fig. 3 shows, on on a larger scale, a detail -in section along line III - III of fig. 1; Fig. 4 shows, to on a larger scale, a detail in-section along the line IV-IV to in fig. 1, FIG. 5 -is an end elevation of part of the brake valve looking in the direction indicated by the line V-V to in fig. 1,
and Fig. 6 shows in cross section a fragment of a -detail variant of the tap.
The brake valve shown in fig. 1 to 5 and operated by the mechanic comprises an envelope box having a main part, 1, a lateral part 2), a bottom part 3 -and a handle part 4.
The parts 9 ,, 3 -and 4 are fixed -removably to the main part 1 of the enclosed box, that is, part 2 is fixed in place by means of bolts 5, part 3 by means of screws to head 6 and part 4 by means of screws to head 7. The part, 1 -is detachably fixed by means of bolts < B> 9, on a support 8, which is fixed to in turn on a support device by means of bolts 10. </ B>
Parts 1, 2 and 3 -of the envelope-box attached together in the manner described constitute a pressure chamber It which communicates-permanently with the usual brake cylinder 12 via a pipe and -a 13. pipe.
Part 2 of the box-envelope com takes a chamber 14 with which the usual air tank 15 communicates & perma- nently through a pipe and conduit 16 . The chamber 14 contains a so, upape -d'upport or intake 18 mounted - so # to be able to slide in a socket 17 fixed in part 2 of the box-envelope, this valve cooperating with a seat,
valve 19 and being subjected on one side to the pressure of a coil spring 20. This valve is used to regulate the communication of room 14 with room at pressure Il.
Part 2 of the envelope box is provided with a cylinder 21 , one end of which opens towards the chamber 11, while its other end is closed by a plug adjustment 22 screwed into the wall of part 2 of the enclosure. This adjustment plug is provided with a central bore 23 whose outer end is threaded to receive a plug screw 24 serving as an adjustable stopper for the rod 26 mentioned below.
In the cylinder 21 is mounted, near its open end, a support piece constituted by a piston 25 with a rod 26 which is guided, so < B> to be able to slide, by means of the -adjustment plug 22 in the inner end of the bolt 23. On one side -of the piston 25 is finds a chamber 27 which communicates with the atmosphere permanently through an orifice 28, and which encloses a spring to, coil 29 interposed between the inner face of the piston 25 and the inner face of the plug 2).
In a chamber with valve 30 provided in the piston 25 and which communicates with the chamber at pressure It through a pipe 31, is connected to an exhaust valve 32 cooperating with a # 4th of. valve 33, formed on the piston and which serves to regulate the communication from the chamber to valve 30 with the chamber 27 through the intermediary, - ducts 34 made in the piston rod 26. The exhaust valve 32 </ B > is fitted with a 35 rod with a 36 collar which slides,
in a fo- ra, oe eentral 37 of the piston and is subjected to the, pressure -a weak spring to coil 38 interposed between the collar 36 and an annular rim 39 of the piston. The outward movement of the valve 32 with respect to the piston is limited by the collar 36 abutting against a stop plate 40 fixed to the piston . The outer end part of the valve stem 35 passes through an opening of the stop plate 40 and is arranged, beyond the outer face of the piston, to cooperate with a mechanism of, command described by the. after.
For controlling the operation of the respective supply and exhaust valves 18 and 32, a control mechanism is provided comprising two levers spaced apart 4-1 (fig. 5) which are articulated, between their ends, on a clieville 42 mounted in a plunger 43, one end of which slides in a borehole 44 of part 2 of the box. envelope.
On one side of the pivot pin 42, the ends of the levers 41 are connected together. pax through a pin 45 on which is freely mounted between the levers a roller 46 resting on the outer end of the rod 35 of the e- eh- valve appement 3-2. On the other side of the pivot pin 42, the ends of the levers are linked together by means of a pin 47 to which is articulated one end of a control rod 48,
the other end of which penetrates into a notch 49 formed in one face of the supply valve 18. For the control of the plunger 43, a cam is provided rotary 50 (fig. 4) with peripheral cam surfaces 51, 52 and 53 -disposed to come -in contact with the outer end of the plunger. This cam - is fixed on a control shaft 54 mounted so to be able to turn & ns parts 1 and 3 - the box -envelope. The control shaft 54 can be rotated by means of the usual removable handle 55 of the brake valve.
The cross section of the plunger 43 is preferably circular and since it is freely mounted in part 2 of the box-casing, it may have the tendency to rotate about its longitudinal axis. In order to avoid such a rotational movement, one end of the pivot pin 42 is guided in a groove 56 open at one end and provided in a tab 57 of part 2 of the box-envelo.ppe.
When the different parts of the brake valve are exactly assembled, this assembly can be mounted on the 8 support or the -dismantle #from, the whole one. In addition, the entire valve control mechanism, except except for cam 50 -and control shaft 54, is carried by part 2 -from the box-enclosure and can be mounted in tier on the, main section 1 or be un- mounted -from this together with the, part 2, so to thus facilitate inspection, cleaning - and, if necessary, repair of the mechanism.
When the valve handle 55 is at the release position W, as shown in fig. 1, 2 and 3, the control cam 50 is also at the -of, -release position as shown to in fig. 4. With the cam in this position, the outer end of the plunger 43 will contact the cam surface 51, as shown through in fig. 4, or in immediate proximity to this, surface.
In its released position, the cam 50 exerts no pressure on the plunger 43, so that the pressure of the spring 20 maintains the supply valve 18 on its seat and that the pressure of the spring 38 keeps the release valve 32 open.
When the exhaust valve is opened, the brake cylinder 12 is opened to atmosphere through a pipe and leads 13, from the chamber to pressure It in the tap, from pipe 31 in udder 25, from chamber to valve 30, through the open valve-. 32, the pipes 34 in the piston rod 26, the chamber to </ B > spring 27 and orifice -98.
It should be noted that the force exerted on the supply valve 18 by the action of the spring 20 is greater than that exerted on the exhaust valve 32 </ B> by the action of the spring M and that the action exerted on the piston 25 by the action of the spring 29 is con significantly greater than the combined forces of springs 20 and 38.
To apply the brakes, turn the handle 55 of the brake valve in a direction opposite to the direction of movement clockwise to from the release position, so that shaft 54 and cam 50 rotate in the. same direction.
When the cam 50 is mated in this way, its cam surface 52. comes into contact with the plunger 43 and moves the plunger with the ù heville-pivat; 42 - inside, that is to say towards part 2 of the box-envelope. As the spring 20, acting on one side of the supply valve 18, offers greater resistance to the inward movement of the valves 41 than the spring 38 acting on the exhaust valve 32,
the feed valve-18 with the rod 48 is kept immobile during the initial movement -of the po-, n '1 # ée 55 towards the clamping position, so that the pin 47 forms a fixed pivot for one end of the levers 41.
When the plunger 43 and the ankle 42 are now moved inwards by the action of the cam 50, the levers 41 are made to perform an oscillating movement around - of the ankle 47 - in a direction - opposite to the direction of the movement of the needles - clockwise and during (this movement of the levers, the roller 46 which moves with them, causes the closing of the exhaust valve 32 to against the opposite pressure of the spring 38, so as to intercept the communication of the valve chamber 11 and consequently of the brake cylinder 12. with atmosphere.
The 32 exhaust valve -will be closed just . before the handle 55 reaches the start- a in cementing of the graduated area X for applying and releasing the brakes.
When the valve, escape 32 is closed, as the value of the pressure of the res out 29 on the piston 25 is greater as the combined pressures of the 38 and 20 springs, the piston 25 will remain stationary so that the peg 45 located on one side of the peg 42, now becomes the pivot for the levers 41 so that, when the handle 55 is moved in the graduated tightening and de tightening zone,
the ends of the levers located -on the other side of the ankle 45 will be brought to oscillate in the Uirection of the movement of the needles of a watch and cause, through the intermediary -of the rod 48, the opening -of the supply valve 18 against against the pressure opposed by the res out 20, and of the pressurized fluid in the chamber to, valve 14, having been admitted to from the air tank 15 through the pipe and conduit 16, </ B> passes to the cylinder zde, brake 12 to through the chamber at pressure It -of the tap and the pipe -and pipe 13 thus producing a brake application.
When the pressure of the fluid in the chamber at pressure 11 acting on one face of the piston 25 is slightly greater than the opposite pressure of the spring < B> 29 acting on the opposite side of the piston, the piston will move inward, ie in -direction to the right (fig. 1).
When the piston '25 thus moves, the acceleration of the spring 20 causes the closing of the supply valve 18 on its seat 19. -of the rod 48, the movement of the valve 18 causes the levers 41 to oscillate around their pivot pin 42 in the -direction opposite to the direction of the movement clockwise keeping the 32 valve closed.
When the supply valve 18 is now closed in its seat 19, the subsequent flow of pressurized fluid from the air reservoir # to the chamber It is interrupted and the movement of the piston inward is stopped by the action of the spring 29. As the piston 25 is brought to. the stop substantially at the same time as the, supply-valve closes, the spring 20, through the, rod 48, the pin 47, the levers 41 , pin 45, roller 46 and exhaust valve stem 35 , will keep this valve closed. Thus, the brake valve is automatically put on: when covering.
If, when the -different parts -of the brake valve -have been moved to the cover position as above, it is desired to reduce the fluid pressure in the brake cylinder, handle 55 of the tap is moved in the direction of clockwise movement to another position., in the. graduated tightening and loosening zone.
When the handle is turned in this way, the cam surface 52) of the cam 50 tends to gradually move away from the end - of the plunger 43 thus allowing the spring 38 to open the exhaust valve 32, which, when it opens, causes the levers to oscillate -in the direction of movement, clockwise around -of the ankle 47 which is hand held fixed by the resistance offered by the spring 20 via: the supply valve 18 and rod 48.
When the exhaust-valve 32 is thus opened, pressurized fluid -is - released from the brake cylinder 12 to the Fatmosphere through the pipe and conduit < B> 13, the chamber He of the tap, the pipe 31 and the, chamber with exhaust valve 30 of the piston 25 passing through the.
exhaust valve or green 32, the ducts 34 -in the rod -of udder your 26, the spring chamber 27 < / B> and orifice 28. When the pressure -of the fluid -in chamber 11 is reduced, the piston 29 de- places the piston 25 outwards, that is to say in the direction to the left and as the cam 50 is held stationary in the desired clamping position and that the plunger is therefore prevented -from making an outward movement, the exhaust valve 32. is kept stationary -and the piston will come into contact with the valve so to close it and to,
interrupt the subsequent flow of pressurized fluid -from the chamber Il and consequently from the brake cylinder. As a result -of this movement -of the piston 25 relative to to the exhaust valve 32, there occurs the compression of the spring 38. </ B >
The valve 32 being closed, the escape of pressurized fluid from the cylinder of, brake 12 and from the chamber at, pressure Il is in interrupted, consequently the piston 25 will come to, the stop without oscillating the levers 41 to open the supply valve 18, and thus the brake valve is automatically recovered after a reduction in the pressure of the brake cylinder has been effected.
To carry out a complete release of the brakes, we bring the handle 55 to its, release position, so that the cam 50 will be moved to its released position, the handle being stopped in the -release position, due to the fact that it abuts against a limit stop 58 of a quadrant 59 </ B > integral with part 1 & the box-envelope. When the cam 50 is moved to this position, the action of the spring 38 causes the opening of the exhaust valve- 32 </ B > carried by the piston 25, as described above, - allowing the fluid under! pressure to pass from the chamber Il and -from the brake cylinder 12 to, the atmosphere.
When the pressure of the fluid in the chamber 11 decreases, the piston 25 moves outward under the action of the spring 29. La, the valve. escapement 32, when opening, now moves forward with the piston and causes an oscillating movement of levers 41 in the direction of the movement of the hands of a watch around the ankle 47. This movement of the levers 41 causes via the ankle, 42 a longitudinal movement of the plunger 43 towards the cam 50 which comes to occupy the approximate position < B> to which it is represented to in fig. 4.
Since the 18 supply valve is kept closed and the exhaust valve open, the. brake cylinder is put into communication with the atmosphere and, consequently, complete release of the kidneys is effected.
To perform a quick # emergency brake application, the, handle can be moved to from the release position or any position of service application towards the emergency position Z, in which the handle will be stopped by a stop-stop 60 -of the 59. quadrant. Therefore die </ B > this movement, of the handle, the cam 50 is made to rotate in the direction opposite to the direction of movement -of the needles -of a watch -and -directly after Îa,
handle moves to the service braking position, part 61 -of it. cam surface to 2 of the cam 5 0 - comes into contact with the plunger 43 and urges the latter towards the interior, that is to say to the right until the moment when the surface 53 of the cam 50 comes into contact with the plunger. When the. surface 53- comes into contact with the diver, he will have been moved to a certain distance beyond the position he occupies when a full service application of the brakes occurs.
As a result-key this additional movement, the supply valve 18 is moved further away from its seat than during service braking.
When the pressure in the Il chamber now increases, the piston 25 moves inward until it is # a </ B> - brought to the stop by the stopping organ 24 on which the end of the piston rod abuts 26. During this movement - of the piston , the exhaust valve 32 is kept closed by the pressure of the spring 20 transmitted to the valve 32 through the valve supply 18, of the rod 48, -of the.
pin 47, - levers 41, pin 45 and o-alei 46. With the piston stopped in its extreme interior position and the valve. exhaust closed, a subsequent movement of the levers 41 around the ankle 42) is rendered impassive; therefore, the 18 power supply valve is maintained or green, allowing equalization of the. fluid pressure of the air reservoir with that of the brake cylinder, so as to ensure high pressure in the brake cylinder during emergency braking .
To -lease the brakes after emergency-braking, the cam 50 is rotated by means of the handle 55 and of </ B > ar ber 54, in the direction of clockwise movement, and when the. part 61 of the surface-cam-- 52 of the cam, 50, passes over the outer end of the plunger 43, the spring 20 , acting through the supply valve 1,8 and its contiexions with the plunger, causes a displacement of the plunger inwards following the turn of the < / B> part 61. -of the cam surface 52, so to perform the.
closing of the supply valve 18 and to interrupt the communication of the air tank with the chamber Il. When we now bring handle 55 at the released position, the different parts of the brake valve will fade in the same way as described above to complete the brake key release.
To carry out a full service tightening, turn the handle 55 to, its position indicated by the letter Y -and the pressure of the brake cylinder maximum that can be obtained by carrying out full-service # tightening is determined by the pressure, sio # attached to one side of the piston 25 by the adjusting spring 29 and it is precisely to be able to see the pressure of this spring vary to the desired degree that the aforementioned adjustment plug is provided 22.
To adjust the adjustment spring 29, so as to, obtain the desired brake cylinder pressure, you can turn the valve handle a. the tightening position of, full service, -in which the pressurized fluid passes from the -air tank 15 to the chamber at -pressure 11 and the brake cylinder 12.
When the fluid pressure in, this chamber -becomes slightly greater than the pressure of the spring 29, the various parts- # of the mechanic's valve -of the mechanic move automatically towards the position. recovery as described above. If the pressure in the brake cylinder is now greater than that desired, the adjustment cap 2'21 should be unscrewed, so that the pressure of the spring 29 is reduced.
The spring pressure being thus reduced, the pressure of the fluid in the chamber 11 will cause the piston 25 to move inwards so as to drive the exhaust valve seat to away from the exhaust valve 32, which is held stationary by the release of the spring 3 8. When the valve seat is thus removed from the valve 32, pressurized fluid passes from the chamber Il to the atmosphere.
When the desired pressure is reached, the adjustment movement of the plug 22 is stopped, after which the spring 29 comes into action to move the piston forward by pressing the valve seat 33 on the exhaust valve 32 to interrupt the communication of the chamber 11. with the atmosphere. Spring 29 is now adjusted (the way to establish the desired maximum brake cylinder pressure in all full service brakes subsequent.
If, on the other hand, the. pressure in the brake cylinder is lower than desired, screw the adjustment cap 2.2, from to increase the pressure of the spring 29. When the adjustment plug 9-2 has been turned in this way, the spring 29 causes the piston to move '25 outward to against -de. the opposite pressure of the fluid contained in the Il chamber, carrying the exhaust valve with it.
By means of the exhaust valve, the movement of the piston causes an oscillating movement of the levers 41 in the direction of the movement of the needles of a self-pulling watch - of the ankle; C pivot 42, so to open it. supply valve 18 to. against the opposite pressure of spring 20.
Fluid under pressure now passes from the air reservoir 15 to chamber Il. When the desired pressure is obtained in the brake cylinder, the adjustment movement of the brake is stopped. adjustment plug 22, after which the pressurized fluid in the chamber 11 causes movement -of the piston 25 inwards allowing the spring 20 -to close the supply valve 18, the spring 20 also acting to keep the exhaust valve 32 closed to. the against,
-of the opposite pressure of the 38. spring. The 29 spring is now adjusted to provide the maximum pressure of cy- cylinder -brake desired in all subsequent full service brakes.
In the event of a rupture of the spring '29, the mechanic can, if the spring force is completely destroyed, move the handle 55 of the valve. at, the emergency position, in which the exhaust valve 32 is by constraint kept closed and the, idle valve 18 is forcibly kept open -de la. same manner as described in connection with the. providing # emergency braking in such a way to allows the ± kidney to tighten.
If, however, the spring 29, after its failure, is still to even to offer resistance to the movement of the piston 25 towards the interior - under the action of the pressurized fluid introduced into the chamber 11, when the handle 55 of the valve is moved to a braking position in the graduated tightening and loosening zone, the different parts of the valve will work to effect brake application,
the maximum brake cylinder pressure obtainable in the full-service braking position -of the handle -determined by the pressure exerted on the piston 25 by the broken spring.
. The handle guard portion 4 of the valve enclosure box is arranged to cooperate with the handle 55, so that the handle can only be removed from the drive shaft 54 when 'it is at a position corresponding to, the emergency braking position, so to thus ensure that the front brakes are applied that the handle can be removed.
In: fig. 6, there is shown a variant of a part of the engineer's valve, according to which the cam 50, instead of being directly in contact with, the the outer end of the plunger 43, rests on an intermediate member 6.5, mounted so to being able to pivot on an ankle 66 fixed to. the box-envelope and which is, in turn, in contact with the outer end -of the plunger, 43.
The member 65 is interposed between the cam 50 and the outer end -of the plunger, in order -to prevent the cam 50 does not come to exert, when it is brought to, to turn, a lateral shear on the diver and thus to avoid any tendency of the diver to. to corner cer in the box-envelope as a result of the "- tion of the, cam.
In addition, the plunger 43 is locked in this variant -in the box-envelope by a screw, with head 67 screwed in the box-envelope and which penetrates into a groove 68 of the diver. This connection, while allowing limited movement between the plunger and the shell-shell section 2, prevents accidental separation of the plunger from part 2 of the box-shell when this section is separated from part 1 -of the box-envelope.
It follows from the foregoing use that in the to, automatic recovery valve described, the manual force necessary to operate the valve in order to perform braking, does not meet any opposition or the, part of the pressure, the relatively strong regulation output 29, nide the part of the pressure, the fluid introduced into the chamber Il -and the brake cylinder 12, the unique opposition to this force being produced by the weak springs 20 and 38 </ B> as well as by the negligible frictional resistance produced by the -different ones,
moving parts ,. It goes without saying, too, that when the handle of the valve 55 -is brought to any braking position, it will remain in this position, thanks to the contour of the, cam surface 52, until the moment when it is desired to change the position of the handle either to increase or to decrease the pressure of the brake cylinder.
