Vei-faliren to il-er4tellnilL 'of a cliromlialti2en dye. It has been found that a chromium-containing dye can be obtained from the chromium compound of the oxyazo dye obtained by coupling diazotized 1-amino-2-oxynaphthalene-4 by coupling with diazotized 1-amino-2-oxynaphthalene-4 -sulfonic acid is obtained with fl-naphthol, can produce,
if you treat this chromium compound with alkaline agents.
The new chromium-containing dye is a violet-black powder which is easily soluble in water and dilute caustic soda with a violet-blue color and dyes wool from an acid bath in navy blue shades of excellent strength.
The chromium compound serving as a starting product in the present process can be obtained from the o-oxyazo dye obtained by coupling diazotized 1-amino-2-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid with Q-naphthol, for example either by chromating with such an amount of chromating - by means of which the chromable group of the dye molecule has less than 1 atom of chromium,
or by chromating with a chromating agent that introduces less than 1 atom of chromium into the chromable group of the dye molecule, as is the case, for example, when using chromium salts in the presence of alkali salts of organic acids (sodium acetate or sodium formate) .
The treatment with the alkaline means, which also include alkaline chromium-releasing agents (alkali chromites), such as caustic soda, potassium hydroxide, ammonia, soda, tertiary alkali phosphate or borax, can be open or under pressure in the presence or absence of additives such as for example inorganic or organic alkali salts.
Example 1: 41.6 parts of the azo dye from diazo-tated 1-amino-2-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid and fl-naphthol (sodium salt) are added with 13 parts of sodium hydroxide solution (30%) and 10 parts of sugar dissolved in 800 parts of water and treated with a chromium solution to 7.8 parts of Cr20a
14 parts of formic acid (85%) and 3.1 parts of crystalline oxalic acid. added and refluxed until the initial dye disappears, which can be seen in the fact that a sample taken from the reaction mixture, made alkaline with soda and slightly warmed, no longer shows any color change after pouring onto filter paper and dabbing with dilute mineral acid; then it is rolled out and filtered.
The dye paste obtained is then added to a solution of 80 parts of sodium hydroxide solution (30% strength) in 300 parts of water and boiled for two hours. It is then filtered, neutralized with 10 0% hydrochloric acid and salted out.
The same chromium-containing dyes are obtained if the work-up is done in such a way that the alkaline reaction mixture is mixed with 4 parts of oxalic acid and as much as 10% hydrochloric acid until the reaction mixture reacts neutrally, here briefly boiled, filtered off from the chrome sludge and the filtrate is evaporated to dryness in vacuo.
Example -2: 41.6 parts of the azo dye from diazo-tated 1-amino-2-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid and fl-naphthol are suspended in 600 parts of water, with a chromium solution of 7.9 Parts of Or20s and 17 parts of formic acid (85%) are added and the mixture is boiled until the starting dye has disappeared; then it is salted out and filtered.
The dye paste is then added to a solution of 90 parts of sodium hydroxide solution (30%) in 300 parts of water.
When the solution is complete, it is heated for three hours on the steam bath, filtered, neutralized with 10% hydrochloric acid and salted out; or 5 parts of tartaric acid are added after heating on the steam bath, filtered, neutralized with 10% hydrochloric acid and evaporated to dryness in vacuo.
Example 3: 41.6 parts of the azo dye from diazo-tated 1-amino-2-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid and fl-naphthol are stirred with 800 parts of water; then chromium formate, corresponding to 7.8 parts of Cr20a, is added and the mixture is refluxed until no more starting dye can be detected. Here on the resulting chromium compound is deposited in the usual way by salting out.
It is now carried into a solution of 90 parts of sodium hydroxide solution (30%) and 5 parts of sugar in 600 parts of cold water. After refluxing for three hours, the violet-blue solution is rendered neutral with 10% hydrochloric acid, small amounts of residue are filtered off and the dye is salted out at 40-50 °.
