Process for the preparation of a mordant dye. It has been found that a valuable mordant dye is obtained if p-amino-o-sulfobenzolazosalicylic acid is treated with 2,4-dinitro-1-halobenzene in the presence of a hydrogen halide binding agent. The body resulting from condensation corresponds to the formula:
EMI0001.0006
The p-amino-o-sulfobenzolazosalicylic acid can be obtained in various ways, for example: 1) Morroacetyl-p-p-pheriylenediamirisulfonic acid is dianotized and coupled with salicic acid.
In the azo dye obtained, the aoetyl group is eliminated by saponification and the free amino group is formed.
2) p-Nitraniline-o-sulfonic acid is dianotized and combined with salicylic acid in a known manner. In the monoazo dye obtained, the nitro group is reduced to the amino group.
The process is illustrated by the following example: To a solution of 337 parts of p-amino-o-sulfobenzene-azo-salicylic acid in 2500 parts of water and 110 parts of soda, 250 parts of 2,4-dinitro are added at 80-90 ° C. with thorough stirring l-chlorobenzene dissolved in 800 parts of alcohol and 200 parts of crystalline. Sodium acetate is gradually added in small amounts and the reaction mass is then heated to the boil for 15 hours on the reflux condenser.
The deposition of the condensation product, which has already occurred in the warmth, is completed by cooling and, after suctioning off, it is freed of traces of the easily soluble, unreacted aminoazo body by washing with water.
The new azo dye thus obtained forms an orange-red powder as the sodium salt, which is difficult to dissolve in cold water and more easily in hot water. It dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a violet color, while the amino azo body used as the starting material dissolves in it with a yellow color.
In chrome printing on cotton, the new dye gives reddish-yellow tones with good fastness properties.
