Sealing piece. The object of the invention is a sealing part intended 'to be used, for example, in conduits for liquids, gases, vapors, under low or high pressure, at low or high temperature, in organs. control of such pipes.
T1 has, like other known sealing parts, a closed metal chamber, the walls of which can yield elastically when the part is clamped. It differs from it on the other hand in that the chamber contains a gas at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure, while the part has not yet been used.
The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing such a part.
The accompanying drawing represents; as examples, three embodiments of the sealing part according to the invention, constituted by washers. Figs. 1 and 2 are a front view and an axial section, by the line 2-2 of FIG. 1 of a first embodiment; Fig. 3 is a transverse axial section of a second embodiment; Fig. 4 is a front view of the third embodiment; Fig. 5 is an axial section of a valve to which are applied two copies of the third embodiment.
The first embodiment 10 (fig. 1 and 2) consists of two circular annular metal plates. Each of them is stamped at 12, so that, when brought together, they give rise to a closed annular chamber 13 of approximately circular cross-section, surrounding the central opening 11 of the washer 10. De on either side of the chamber 15, they have flanges 14, 15 secured to each other by brazing, welding using a foreign body, autogenous welding. This chamber 13 is filled with a gas, air, for example, at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure.
According to fig. 3, the connection between the flanges 14 and 114, on the one hand, 15 and 115, on the other hand, is obtained by folding the free edges of the flanges 114, 115 over the free edges of the flanges 14, 15.
The joining of the various flanges to each other can also take place by riveting, etc.
The sealing washer is prepared according to fig. 4 by bending a rectilinear tubular part of circular cross section, so as to make it take the shape of a ring and by connecting its two ends in a durable and tight manner at 16, for example by brazing, welding using from a foreign body, autogenous welding. The junction of the two ends can also be worked afterwards so as not to present the bour relet and the two constrictions shown at 16.
The plates can be made of cold drawn copper, nickel, "1VIonel" metal, for example. Their shaping can take place in any other way, by pressing, turning, for example.
The cross section of the chamber 13 may not be circular and be in the shape of a diamond, an ellipse, for example.
The sealing piece may not have a circular shape, it could be oval, for example. It may also not have a central opening and therefore not constitute a washer.
The chamber 1.3 may contain an elastic solid body, for example rubber, however only partially filling it, the remaining space being filled with gas under a pressure greater than the amaspherical pressure.
It can also contain a ring made of a resistant material which only partially fills it and serves to limit its deformation under use.
The valve shown in fig. 5 comprises a body 17, a cap 19, screwed into the body 17, a closure member 21, a seat 22 for the latter, a rod 18 threaded at 24, screwing into the cap 19 and driving the member - 21, a stuffing box 20. Sealing washers 23 in accordance with FIG. 4 are arranged, on the one hand, between the surfaces 26, 27 of the cap 19 and of the body 17, on the other hand, between the member 21 and its seat 22.
When the cap 19 is screwed into the body 17, the surfaces 26, 27 act on the washer 23 transversely to the chamber 13 and deform it. Thanks to the appreciable elasticity of the walls of this chamber 13 and to the resilient resistance opposed by the gas filling it under a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure, these walls adapt to any irregularity of the faces 26, 27, without it being necessary to have a very high clamping pressure. On the other hand, the gas cushion 13 opposes a complete crushing of the chamber 13, which would almost completely suppress the elasticity of the washer.
The result is a perfectly tight seal. It is the same for the washer 23 between the member 21 and the seat 22. If one uses, for example, for the formation of the washer 23, a tube No. 21 giving a chamber 13 of 5.0 mm outside diameter approximately and the pressure in the chamber is 21 kg / cm, for example, an elasticity of 0.25 mm is obtained after the above diameter has been reduced to half.
Oven large diameter washers can be used, for example # 18 copper tubing having an outside diameter of 6.0-8.0 mm. Nos 21, 18 mentioned here relate to the wall thickness of the pipes used.
Tubes with thinner walls can also be used by increasing the pressure in chamber 13. However, these walls must include a certain amount of material so that they can withstand the wear and tear and deterioration resulting, for example. example, of the operation of the member 21 in the case of the valve shown or of the assembly and disassembly in a pipe. A pressure of 1.5 kg / cm 'in the chamber is not suitable, except when the walls thereof are very thin, the pipes considered are at low pressure and the washer is only subjected to very low wear and deterioration.
In the case of washers made of nickel, or of "blonel" metal, it is generally necessary to have in the chamber a pleat pressure as high as 21 kg / cm 2 in order to obtain the desired elasticity of 0.2.5 mm.
The filling of the chamber with gas at the desired pressure, higher than atmospheric pressure, can take place, for example, either by closing the chamber in an atmosphere of air, for example, having the necessary pressure, or by introducing by it before its closure of the bodies which reacts feels on each other giving the required gas or gases under. the desired pressure, preventing them from reacting until it is closed, and then causing them to react; for this we can surround these bodies with wax, for example, then once the chamber is closed, melt this wax by heating the ron delle.
