Description
Process for the preparation of a tin compound of a water-soluble, not. coloring thio derivative of phenol. It has been found that by the action of inorganic tin compounds on a non-coloring thio derivative of phenol, as is the case, for example, according to the Swiss process. Patent 97869 is available; a new tin compound is created.
This new tin compound is suitable for use in Switzerland. Patent 97869 ge named purposes.
This new) tin compound is advantageously produced in such a way that inorganic tin compounds, such as tin-acid sodium, tin hydroxide, tin chloride or tin chloride, optionally in the presence of caustic alkalis, act on the alkali salts of the said product in aqueous suspension or solution leaves.
The tin compound can be obtained from the solutions obtained, for example, by acidifying or evaporating the solutions in a vacuum, whereby the valency of the tin can also be changed by blowing in a stream of air. For some technical purposes, a mixture of the sodium salt of a phenol sulfur product and a water-soluble inorganic tin salt can also be used, since the new tin compound is already formed during the dissolution process in water.
<I> Example 1: </I> 62 parts by weight of the product obtainable according to the example of Swiss patent 97869 are dissolved in hot water with the addition of an excess of sodium hydroxide solution and an aqueous solution of 56 parts by weight of tin chloride is added. It is important to ensure; that a sufficient amount of caustic soda is present to completely dissolve the hydroxide formed. The reaction mixture is kept on the boiling water bath for one hour, filtered and acidified with dilute hydrochloric acid.
The precipitate obtained is filtered off with suction, washed well with dilute hydrochloric acid and water, redissolved in the water with the precisely calculated amount of sodium hydroxide solution and evaporated to dryness in vacuo. The reaction product obtained in this way is a gray powder which is soluble in aqueous alkalis and can be precipitated therefrom with mineral acid. <I> Example 2: </I> 62 parts by weight of the product, obtainable according to Example 2 of D. R. P. 400242, are reacted with 65 parts by weight of tin chloride and the reaction mixture is worked up as described in Example 1. The reaction product is a yellowish brown resin.
The thio derivative of phenol used as the starting product is prepared by dissolving 38 parts by weight of phenol with 16 parts by weight of sodium hydroxide solution in 40 parts by weight of water, adding 20 parts by weight of powdered sulfur to the solution and refluxing it to 180-1900 for 30 to 40 hours </B> C heated. The viscous mass obtained is diluted with water and the thio derivative of phenol is eliminated from the solution by adding hydrochloric acid. The precipitate is dissolved in dilute aqueous sodium carbonate solution and the sodium salt is aasgesalt from this solution by adding Glauber's salt. The product is a gray powder.
<I> Example 3 </I> 50 parts by weight of a sulfurized phenol, obtainable according to the example of D. R. P. 409782, are dissolved in water with the addition of sodium hydroxide solution and 20 parts by weight of potassium hexachlorostannate are added to this solution in small portions. The solution is stirred for about 4 hours at water bath temperature and worked up as described in Example 1. A gray powder with the properties given in Example 1 is obtained.
The sulphurized phenol used as the starting material is prepared by dissolving 38 parts by weight of phenol in 10 parts by weight of water and 22 parts by weight of aqueous sodium hydroxide solution of 38 'B6, adding 26 parts by weight of powdered sulfur and for about 30 hours boils on the reflux condenser. Work-up is carried out as described for the product of Example 2 of D. R. P. 400242 (see Example 2).
<I> Example 4: </I> 50 parts by weight of a product that is obtainable according to the example of Swiss patent 97869 is dissolved as the sodium salt in approximately 500 parts of water. 14 parts by weight of sodium stannous are added and the whole is stirred for 20 minutes in a boiling water bath. It is then suction filtered and the filtrate is evaporated to dryness in vacuo. The product obtained has properties similar to those of the products according to the preceding examples.
