Process for the preparation of a nitrogenous vat dye. The main patent describes a process for the preparation of a nitrogen-containing vat dye, in which 1 Moll.
of the tetrahalogenopyranthrone obtainable by treating pyranthrone with halogen in chlorosulfonic acid with 3 mol. of the aminodibenzanthrone and 1 mol. 1-aminoanthraquinone obtainable by nitrating dibenzanthrone with nitric acid in nitrobenzene and reducing the resulting nitro compound.
It has now been found that a new vat dye is obtained if 1 mole of dihalodibenzpyrenehinone, obtainable from dibenzpyrenquinone by halogenation in chlorosulfonic acid with the addition of iodine as a catalyst, is reacted with 1 mole. 1-aminoanthraquinone and 1 mole. 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone .
The condensation is expediently carried out in high-boiling diluents and with the addition of acid-binding agents, such as sodium acetate. In many cases it is advantageous to add catalysts, for example copper compounds.
The new dye dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a violet color and, with an alkaline hydrosulphite solution, gives an orange-red vat solution from which the vegetable fibers are colored in violet, exceptionally real shades.
Example 5 parts of dibromodibenzpyrenquinone (made from dibenzpyrenquinone by bromination in chlorosulfonic acid with the addition of iodine) are mixed with 200 parts of nitrobenzene with 5 parts of sodium acetate, 1 part of copper oxide, 2.3 parts 1- Aminoa.nthraquinone and 2.5 parts of 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone are boiled with stirring until the reaction product is practically bromine-free. You work on this in the usual way.
Instead of nitrobenzene, naphthalene can also be used as a suspension medium.
