Process for the preparation of a vat dye containing nitrogen. The main patent describes a process for the preparation of a nitrogen-containing vat dye in which 1 mol of the tetrahalogenpyranthrone obtainable by treating pyranthrone with halogen in chlorosulfonic acid is added with 3 mol.,
of the aminodibenzanthrone obtainable by nitrating dibenzanthrone with nitric acid in nitrobenzene and reducing the resulting nitro compound and 1 mol. 1-aminoanthraquinone.
It has now been found that a new vat dye is obtained if 1 mol. Tetrahalogenpyranthrone, obtainable by treating pyranthrone with halogen in chlorosulfonic acid, is reacted with 2 mol. 1,4-aminomethoxyanthraquinone and 2 mol. 1-aminoanthraquinone. The condensation is expediently carried out in high-boiling diluents and with the addition of acid-binding agents such as sodium acetate.
In many cases it is an advantage to have catalysts. e.g. copper compounds to be added.
The new dye dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a blue color and, with an alkaline hydrosulfite solution, gives a burgundy red vat solution from which the vegetable fibers are dyed in gray to black, exceptionally real shades.
Example: 72 parts of tetrabromopyranthrone (represented by brominating pyranthrone in chlorosulfonic acid) are mixed in 2000 parts of nitrobenzene with 50 parts of 1,4-aminomethoxyanthraquinone, 46 parts of 1-aminoanthrachinone, 0 parts of sodium acetate, 5 parts len copper oxide and 2 parts of copper carbonate are boiled with stirring until the dye has formed.
Then m.an sucks hot, washes with hot nitrobenzene, boils with dilute hydrochloric acid, washes neutral and dries.
