Process for the preparation of a black, chromium-containing dye. It has been found that a valuable, black, chromium-containing dye can be obtained if the azo dye from the nitrated diazo compound of 1-amino-2-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid and Q-naphthol is treated with chromium compounds in such a way that less than an atom of chromium enters the dye molecule. For example, one can proceed in such a way that one uses so much chromium compound that there is less than one atom of chromium for each dye molecule.
However, you can also use larger amounts, for example at least 1 atom of chromium per dye molecule and in this case take special measures, for example by adding table salt or other water-soluble salts of mineral acids, to ensure that less than 1 atom of chromium in each dye molecule entry. The process can be carried out under both normal and increased pressure. In the manner described, a dye is obtained which is a black powder and dyes wool in very genuine black shades.
Example r: 46 parts of dye from the nitrated diazo compound of 1-amino-2-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid and R-naphthol in the form of the sodium salt are mixed in an aqueous solution with a chromium formate solution, which contains 5-6 parts of CrsOs dissolved, heated to 120 under pressure for 1 hour. After cooling and looking, a black powder is obtained that dyes wool in very real black tones in an acid bath.
Example 2: 50 parts of the dye from the nitrated diazo compound of 1-amino-2-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid and ß-naphthol are mixed with 500 parts of a chromium formate solution (containing 8.4 parts of Cr20a) of the 150th grade Parts of sodium chloride are added, heated to 122 under pressure for 4 hours. The chromium-containing dye formed is filtered off with suction at 60 and dried.
