La fig. 1 est une coupe longitudinale d'un raccord pour tuyaux; La fig. 2 est une vue en perspective de l'ébauche dont est formé l'écrou en-deux pièces employé dans le raccord représenté à le fig. 1; La fig. 3 est une vue en bout de l'ébau che représentée à la fig. 2 montrant en po sition le dispositif de sectionnement; La fig. 4 est une coupe longitudinale de l'écrou montrant le mode d'application du dispositif de sectionnement sur l'ébauche;
Connection for pipes. The present invention relates to fittings for pipes and in particular to swivel fittings.
The connector for pipes according to the invention comprises a diaphragm device arranged concentrically with the axis of the connector between the two elements of the coupling and subjected to the pressure of the fluid prevailing inside the coupling to prevent any leakage between these elements, said device being fixed to one of these elements and leaning against the other of these elements under the effect of the pressure of the fluid.
This connection can be assembled and disassembled quickly while having a good seal.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of a pipe fitting; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the blank of which the two-piece nut used in the connector shown in FIG. 1; Fig. 3 is an end view of the blank shown in FIG. 2 showing the isolating device in position; Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section of the nut showing the mode of application of the cutting device on the blank;
Fig. b is a side elevation of the two-piece nut formed by the sectioning of the blank shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
As seen in the drawing, one of the elements 1 of the connector has a thread 2 at one of its ends to receive a pipe and, at the other end, a thread 3 in which the nut 4 is screwed, which is separated into two halves, so that its flange 5 can penetrate inside the groove 6 formed on the other element of the coupling. The second element, which penetrates inside the first, comprises a hexagonal part 7. which is threaded, as shown, to allow attachment to another pipe. This second element also comprises a - sleeve 8 which penetrates into the small bore 9 of the element 1.
As there is not around the end of the sleeve 8, in the bore 9, a large play, the elements of the coupling can hardly change their position of alignment, so that great forces cannot be exercised on the parts.
It will be seen that the two elements of the coupling can pivot freely on one another, the engagement of the flange 5 in the groove 6 in which it can move limiting their relative longitudinal movement.
To prevent any leakage between the two parts, there is disposed between these parts a thin metal tube 10, corrugated in a helix, one of the ends of which is fixed, by hard pipe for example, to the circular metal seat 11 which bears on the packing ring 12 placed on part 1, in order to create, at this point, an airtight seal. A sleeve 12 'tightened against the seat 11 by the nut 4, serves to hold this seat, as well as the packing ring, in place on the part 1. The other end of the corrugated tube is hermetically secured to the seat. circular metal 13 which rests on the packing ring 14 applied to the other element of the fitting. The packing ring 14 is held in place by means of a flanged collar 15 screwed onto a shoulder 16 of the element 7 of the connector.
The elasticity of the metal tube 10 which is further increased by a coil spring 10 'housed in the corrugations, strongly presses the seats 11 and 13 against the packing rings 12 and 14, and the greater the pressure prevailing inside the connection will be high, the more the tube will tend to elongate and thus press strongly the seats which are hole vented at its ends against the packing rings of the two elements of the connection, so that the more the pressure will be high in The tighter the connection, the more airtight the joint will be.
To establish the nut 4, we cast a part such as that shown in fig 2, but without the threads, this blank having opposite longitudinal slots 17 and 18, the polygonal head 19, and slots 20 and 21 which are made with a saw cut or otherwise and extending across the face of the head 19, along a diameter which connects the slots 17 and 18. It can be seen that one forms, using these slots, a weakening of the material along an axial longitudinal plane.
While the two parts of the nut are still assembled, the thread 22 is formed thereon. A split sleeve 23, the bore of which is of conical shape, is then introduced inside the nut, in such a manner. so that the plane of the slot lies in that of slots 17 and 18. A mandrel 24 of reverse taper shape is then pushed into the slot sleeve, so that it acts like a wedge to separate the slits. two halves of the nut in the weakened places which have been indicated above. The fracture surfaces between the two halves of the nut will be rough and irregularly shaped, so that when they are re-applied against each other, they will return to exactly the same positions they occupied before. the one-piece nut has been split in half.
The threads will thus be brought exactly into the desired relative position. In this way, it is possible to apply a split nut of this kind to the coupling of fig. 1, with the certainty that the threads of the two parts will be able to act together in a suitable way, so that the nut can be screwed as a whole into the element 1 as easily as if it had not been split . At the same time, since the nut is split, the flange 5 can enter the groove 6.
