O presente processo para preparação de álcoois engloba a hidrogenação de aldeídos na presença de um catalisador de hidrogenação em fase gasosa. Aqui são adicionadas bases contendo nitrogênio ao aldeído a ser hidrogenado, com o que a formação de subprodutos é amplamente reduzida, e é possibilitada a obtenção dos álcoois desejados com alta seletividade e respectivo alto rendimento.
